We purchased a Viking fence about 9 years ago. Most of the cedar posts rotted out after about 5 years which was far less time than I expected they would last. All of the others are very loose and wobbly. We contacted Viking Fence at that time and they hid behind the warranty and wouldn't do anything to make it right except submit a bit to replace the posts which was more than we had paid them initially for the whole fence. Neither of the 2 gates will latch because the posts have leaned too far. Yesterday during the high wind in the morning about 50 feet of the fence blew over. Today while disassembling the fence I see that they only put in about 6" of concrete around each post. This explains why the posts are all loose. I'm no fencing expert but I know that 6" of concrete isn't enough to anchor a fence post. Poor workmanship and substandard materials combined with bad customer service result in dissatisfied customers. read more

Great experience! John was the estimator, Oscar and Sergio along with a stone working sub did an outstanding job on the fencing. The process to start was quick and efficient - John visited our home twice as we had significant landscaping underway. He estimated on the first visit and updated on the second visit, responses were pretty quick and accurate. We signed and put the deposit and the crew showed up the next week to start. Good communication throughout and was very happy with the progress. For the amount of fence installed I was surprised at how quickly they worked and the high level of coordination between the trades. In about 2 weeks they completed the 4 different types of fencing purchased, touched up all details, cleaned up and cleared out. Even left me a can primer and touch up paint! I did read the reviews here about quality and don't see any issues. I'm hopeful it stays that way for many years to come. One suggestion is they should accept different types of payments than credit card. I would have dropped off a bag of cash if it saved the %3 service fee but they only accept CC. read more

Several years ago we had Viking Fence put in a custom iron fence for us. I was happy with the service we received at that time. We need to have handrails installed on our front porch steps and I wanted the design to match the fence. I also needed a small section of fence installed to hide a hot tub. I wanted the new section to match the existing fence. Well ... Gil came out, took measurements and told me he would get a design and bid to me in 3 or 4 days. Called 4 weeks later and again Gil told me he would get a design and bid to me in 3 days. That was over a week ago. Companies can decide who's business they want or don't want, but at be least be honest and not lead customers on and waste their time. It is too bad, because I had a good option of them and even recommended them to other neighbors. Won't make that mistake again. read more

We spoke and I asked him to visit the property and provide a quote, I also send some photos via text. Never got a call back. I called "Joe" back twice and left messages, but never got a reply. My husband chose Viking fence to put a an 8 foot privacy fence and a horizontal fence on the sides of our house. This was my first experience with putting in a fence, and Shelby was very responsive and knowledgable with all our questions while he was on property measuring to determine the quote. He was also very quick to respond throughout the process to any questions that we had about progress. My SO signed the contract and the crew was out to my property in 2 days ready to work. Shelby and Crew pulled up existing fence, cleared the fence line of all brush and small trees, and installed a great cedar fence at the rear fence line and a horizontal fence on the front fence line. Shelby also made some suggestions during the process to help improve the look of our fence and add additional sections, and made these changes while staying within budget. I don't recommend this company at all. They replaced my entire fence when I bought my house. They didn't show up at the original time they'd scheduled, so I had to call them. After the fence was in, I noticed that there were over 15 slats that were severely warped, some at both ends. I was told that the wood was probably not completely "cured" and that I should let the sun "dry them out" for a few days & they'd straighten out. Of course, they didn't, since they were ... warped. After another call, they agreed to return & replace the warped slats, but they were rude and sarcastic about it. They also used nails instead of screws to attach the fence to the house, so it wasn't long before it pulled loose. For quality work and good customer service, I highly recommend using someone else. read more

I had a not so great experience with Viking last year, BUT I gave them a second chance and they got it right. My problem was with their customer service or lack of. This time they sent Bailey who was extremely professional, more than knowledgeable and just a pleasure to deal with. He found two major problems and was able to fix them and now I finally have a working gate. Viking is lucky to have him on their team. As an owner of my own company for 25 years I see and recognize excellent customer service, as well as, shitty service. It is what makes and breaks all companies no matter the size. read more

After purchasing a new home on a raw, acre, tree-filled lot, I've dealt with more contractors than I'd care to which is why I feel compelled to give kudos to the rare, deserving few. Viking Fence made the cut. They installed 572 linear feet of 6' tall ornamental fencing with scroll top, a 10' wide double drive gate, and one walk gate. It cost just under $20k. The job took much longer to complete than they'd originally estimated because the field supervisor skipped town with no word. So, what was supposed to take several weeks took nearly 1.5 months to complete. We had problems with the fence panels along a driveway slope shifting so our locks wouldn't work. After a few attempts, we got the panels secured but still occasionally experience problems with the locks. Installation had been completed towards the former part of this year, so it's frustrating to still experience issues but the last attempt to fix the problem has thus far worked. Despite this, they are consistently responsive, professional and always prompt and courteous. We'd still use them again; Dean Stockwell is the guy to ask for to help you design/choose the right fencing for you. Btw, I am shocked at the one and two-star reviews, mostly about their unresponsiveness with respect to bids. Two days after the on-site consult with Dean, I got a quote. And as previously mentioned, the repeat issues we had post-installation got addressed/fixed promptly. Hopefully my review will sway prospective customers that are on the 'fence' to give Viking Fence a try. Good contractors are hard to come by so let's keep them around and weed out the junk. :) read more

Not only did he show up on time but also gave me a great price. On the day of the project Gil and his crew started early but rain stopped their progress so they returned the very next day and finished the job. We had a great experience with Steve Mendivil and Viking Fence. Besides the basic cedar fence replacement on the sides of the yard that looks great, Oscar and his assistant re-welded some loose iron bars on our back iron fence that backs up to a greenbelt (at no additional charge), and were very careful with a small arbor that my neighbor had attached to his side of the fence. They unattached it carefully, and replaced it in better condition than how they found it. Recommended. read more

I hired Viking to do half of a 700 LF chainlink fence project. After the Viking half was installed, I found a cheaper bid from another company to handle the second half. The experience of dealing with the two companies on this project was quite a contrast. Basically, all these fence companies are farming these projects out to independent contractors. Viking's installer torqued the fence fabric too much such that parts of it had holes in it and mishapen patterns. The top rail also wasn't horizontal in some areas. I took digital photos, emailed them to my salesman, and he had a crew out there to fix these issues in a reasonable amount of time. He was very willing to make sure I was happy with the installed product. Ok, so the other company low-balled their bid on the other half of the fence. Then, when my deadline was looming and it was too late to get another company engaged, they pressured me with upsale attempts. They promised their crew would work in hurricanes if necessary to meet the deadline. Although my crew was working 12 hour days on other parts of the project, their crew worked 6 hour days and left the site around 5:00 PM. The were out there up to the last minute trying to get the fence finished before the grand opening of the facility, yet they still didn't have the gates finished until a few days after the grand opening. On top of that, they didn't use rubber-coated posts as was specced-- they snuck in spray-painted posts and hardware. None of the post caps were glued on. Their gates didn't even line up right. When I called the other company to fix these issues, they argued and demanded more money. That company has a name comprised of three letters. I'll always prioritize a Viking bid over other companies due to their post-installation support. read more

I spoke with Danny Cullison, one of their salesmen, about a residential fence replacement for me and 3 adjacent neighbors. It's a fairly large residential job ~1000 feet in total. Danny told me he would get me a quote within 48 hours. After 2 days had passed, I called and texted him but could not get a response. I eventually called the main office after a week had passed, and got no answer there either. I left a message, but still have not received a call back. It's been 11 days! Maybe they are just so busy that they don't want our business, but don't tell me you'll get me a quote and then just never call back! What a waste of time! read more

The failure to honor a service estimate or agreement. Viking gave me an estimate to replace my fence only to come back and charge me $600.00 more than the agreed upon price - representative claims he made a mistake in measuring. He knew it was wrong and didn't contact me. He then told me and charged my credit card for the higher amount - which I did not authorize. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and have the amount disputed on my credit card. BEWARE!! read more

Couldn't even get them out to offer an estimate. In December I called and got a voicemail. I left details saying my fence was damaged in a storm and needed an estimate. A week went by without a reply. Called in January and got someone who said Frank would be in touch with me the next day. That was a Tuesday. I called again on Friday and they said Frank would be in touch in a few hours. More than a few hours later we finally connect and he said he could offer an estimate next Thursday. I tell him I've been waiting a while and need an estimate over the weekend. Apparently Viking fence doesn't work on weekends per Frank but he said someone would be in touch Monday. Well it's Tuesday night and still no word from Frank and Viking fence. You lost a customer Frank! read more

Obviously I must have found the "wrong" people at Viking fence because my overall experience with them was pretty good. My estimate matched the final price and I have a real crappy piece of land to work on. They had to use a coring machine for numerous posts but that was already factored into the estimate. I also have several elevation transistions and the crew did a good job smoothing them out. The custom gate was exactly what my wife sat down with the designer to create. Pricing was competitive but not the lowest. We had five bids and Viking was number 3, and not far ouff from the lowest price but Viking stated they could provide the exact fencing we wanted, which they did. The biggest ding against them was communication. The fence looks great today and the fence has a very solid feel to it. As long as it lasts then I will be a very happy camper. read more

We just had 2/3rds of our fencing replaced by Viking and we are VERY happy with the job done! Nice cedar wood, placed properly and even (no gaps) and done over 3 days. Octavio and Jose did great work!! The neighbors had iron fencing done as well and that also looks amazing. We even had to work out payment with 2 other neighbors and the email communication was awesome, it worked out easily without hassle. It rained one day and they emailed all of us and let us know the plans and when they'd be out...etc.. NO problems for us! I'd recommend this company to any of my friends!!! read more

We had a mixed experience with Viking Fence. PROS: 1. Beautiful product. We had a 6 foot wood privacy fence replaced. High quality wood, 2 installation guys that were extremely polite and hardworking in over 100F heat, and the end product is that we have one of the nicest fences in the neighborhood. 2. Competitive bid. These guys were the best bid out of 3 fence companies by far. CONS: 1. I took a few days off work to be present for the installation, but both start and finish times were delayed, and I ended up having to deal with installation issues over the phone from work. 2. Our contract was to include "standard gates" which I thought meant 36-48 inches. However, unless stipulated, Viking will use the previous post holes, which resulted in us unexpectedly getting a 33 inch gate, and thus unable to get a riding mower through. Make sure you state the exact measurements you want for your gates prior to installation. 3. Viking calls the Texas dig test phone number prior to installation. However, in our case, only our gas line was marked resulting in our main water line getting hit, resulting in no water for 18 hours, a delay in the project, and a cost of $550 to repair. I had even questioned the project supervisor about why the water lines were not marked prior to them starting, and he said it was fine. The manager said they assume the dig test company marks everything that needs to be marked. After a lengthy conversation, he offered to pay for half of the plumbing repair cost, which was nice of them. My advice would be to make sure every underground structure is marked before allowing the start of installation, and stay firm on this, especially on the side of the house that has your water, gas, and electricity meters. read more

Part of my fence blew down from the storm and I had already been contemplating rebuilding it so I pulled the trigger and started getting bids. Viking was right in line with everyone else so I went with the more well known place. Wayne, the workers that were here (Im sorry I am so bad with names but there were 2 guys here.) These are some of the most professional guys I have ever met. I know the rain backed us up but this was super speedy after the rain subsided. Everyone is so polite and made this process super easy. The guys showed up early (but not too early which was a godsend because I wanted to sleep in.) I left the guys alone to do their work, I didn't want to hover like some people do, but I would walk outside and check out the progress and take pictures. Huge shout out to the guys for making it possible to have all of the posts on my side. I brought out a few bottles of water because it's Texas, and well, its HOT. They were so appreciative. I chatted for a few minutes at the end of each day to check the progress and the guys let me know what the plan was. Very Friendly, Easy to understand, and So personable! Second, They were fast, efficient, and clean. They kept my yard, which I am super picky about, clean, trash free, and leftover material clean. The old fence was stood up as to not harm my grass. It was overall a very pleasant experience. I never felt out of the loop and knew what was going on so I could inform the neighbors if asked. I've never had to deal with anything like this as my dad always took care of this stuff so as a first timer, in closing, I would like to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for making this process so streamline and easy to do. Such an odd site to see a huge difference between Google reviews and Yelp reviews. On Google (where I believe users are a bit more level-headed), they have a solid 5 STAR rating out of 260 reviews! This company was suggested to me by a couple of neighbors through Nextdoor, and they were freaking solid through the entire process. Between Frank and Steve, I was happy with the quick responses when I emailed them to figure out the choices we wanted to go with. Steve was happy to talk me through the website and talk to me about my options based off of my desires. Once we solidified the work, it was scheduled and they performed it within a couple of business days. The work is solid. I love that they cemented galvanized poles, which will never rot and will provide the base for any wood replacement needed over time. Very much happy with the process and results. read more

Dave Ramos with Viking Fence replaced my fence with an outstanding top quality fence. Day 1 they removed the old fence and posts and set new ones. Day 2 the fence was complete! Dave and his crew use top quality full size cedar materials. Not the Home Depot or Lowes quality. The fence is straight and level. The gate post is 4x6 instead of the usual 4x4 for greater stability. I paid over $200 for them to come out and look at a gate. They never got me a quote to fix it. They never told me what was wrong. The $200 was supposed to go to the repair cost and diagnosis. This went on for 2 weeks trying to get an answer or get them back out. I paid another contractor to come out and replace my battery. Took him 15 minutes. Cost me $95 to fix it. I called for a refund and I was told sorry we use independent contractors. They passed the buck around and then stopped communicating when I asked for a refund. Do not use them. No accountability! I run a professional property management company. so that cost came out of my pocket! No way I'm charging the owner! read more

So I originally wanted Viking to build my fence back in 2015. The salesman came out and said the fence I wanted would not be allowed to be built in Austin because it was 8ft privacy. Which he was wrong and another company built the fence I wanted. Now I decided to buy some special milled fence posts from them, a month later and now they say it cant be done the way they explained and I needed to buy more product. Really? a month later before you knew you screwed up?? Now my project is delayed. I went elsewhere and they did refund my money timely. I am done with this company. read more

Viking just finished two sets of deck rails for us. It was supposed to take two days. It took five, because I had to call them back several times for repairs. One rail was a different height. No solder at junctions to posts, just big gaps. Two stretches of rail installed incorrectly. Rails not lined up correctly when viewed from top/sides. The manager of the project got it done, but there was always some long excuse. I don't want excuses; I just want the job done correctly. They were less expensive than Gonzales, but not sure it was worth the trouble. read more

The claimed they were having internet issues and would call me back within two days with a quote. They never called. I called a third time and got the same song and dance about internet issues. Viking originally installed our electronic gate. We have had many service calls on this gate (at least 3-4 per year); some calls were handled well by Viking, some not well at all (at times it is very difficult to get a call back or to reach someone). It all seems to depend on who's in charge at the time, and who you can get on the phone, if anyone. Once again, we need a service call, our gate is randomly not opening and key pad not operating. Viking: it will be three weeks until we can get someone to your home. Three weeks?? Moving on to another company. read more

Cody was prompt stopped by and gave me a verbal quote which matched the quote for my neighbor's fence. Then he sends me a quote for 3 times the price that was quoted for my neighbor. I guess Viking wants to break up with me and we have not even had a first date. I made the first move, I requested a quote online. No response. So, I called. They had no record of the online activity. ok - no biggie, it happens. They put me in touch with a person who would do the estimate. We spoke, set a meeting. A short time before the meeting, the person called to say they were too far out of town to make it and asked to reschedule. I appreciated the call and he said he would call once back at the office to schedule. No call. I called him the following week. He apologized, sort of, and said he could go by my house to take a look and call me back. Guess what? No call. So, I call again. Guess I love the chase. He says he dropped the ball, or hammer, whatever. Said he would go by again, I told him the approximate area of the fence and he said he would email me an estimate. No email. That was about a week ago. I walk my dogs in our neighborhood and see the VIKING FENCE logo on fences and laugh. They are like the tooth fairy to me, they do not really exist. C'mon. I have 3/4 acre lot and although I am not going to fence the whole thing, the area I am fencing is not a waste of time for a fencing business in my opinion. So Viking, it is not me, it is you. Go fence yourself! I have moved onto a better, more reliable, dependable and trustworthy fence company and they will take my money. read more
