We went for lunch on a Monday. The server didn't speak English so I couldn't get answers to my menu questions. I started with a papusa, beef empanada and fried tamale. All were delicious. We also had a large platter for $18 with chicharron, steak, steak taquitos, plantain chips, fried yuca, tortilla chips, & a cup of beans. The steak was very chewy and I spit out multiple pieces. We ended with a plantain empanada stuffed with a white sweet sauce. It had a sugar coating and was fried. Delicious. The restaurant is clean. There is parking in the attached lot. Alright, if you're Central American or just love Central American food, This is the place you want to eat at. On several occasions over the past year, I've eaten at El Merendon and have ordered takeout, and trust me it has not disappointed me at all. I've tasted the Cena Hondurenra and it was so delicious the Carne and beans feel so fresh and tasty. The Baleada con crane tastes as if my abulea made it by hand. You cannot go wrong with this dish. As someone who is Salvadorian I'm always looking for a place nearby that can really satisfy my craving for papusas. Well it's easy to say that this place exceeded my expectations, I got bean and cheese papusas and they were the real deal. Also got the Sopa de Res which they only serve a couple times a week and it was so authentic. I work about 7 minutes from this place so I will be coming back over and over again. Waitress are rude. Can't take an order correct to get a refill on water takes 30 minutes. Son ordered a chicken baleada came out as a steak. Then we had to reorder it came out with hardly no meat was nothing like a real baleada more cheese that anything the waitress didn't deserve a tip but I gave her one feel bad this place is the worst crap. Wow. Amazing El Salvadorean cuisine. The empanadas were legit on point! Homemade chicken and potatoes stuffing. The sweet corn tamales were moist and sweetened just right. The carne asada was marinated in all the flavors of El Salvador. I love little hole in the wall and this was a fantastic find. Definitely must try if you're craving authentic Latin food. read more

Really delicious/cute spot! You can practice your Spanish here when you order food. Menu is in Spanish and English. I previously wasn't familiar with Honduran or Salvadoran food but now I am. I learned about pupusas on buzzfeed, and definitely will try it next time I go back. Steak and chicken were yum, definitely will try shrimp too next time. Wow let me tell you when I walked in with my father we didn't think much of the restaurant. Very small mom and pop type of restaurant. But when we sat down and the food came, it did not disappoint. I ordered steak and eggs with a side of white rice and some black beans. The steak tasted amazing and the eggs were cooked to perfection. No se ni por donde empezar la verdad que el servicio desde que llamas estuvo pésimo, lo cual me cuesta creer por que la verdad ya habíamos ido un par de veces y todo estuvo bien, llame para saber si estaban ocupados para dine in y me dijeron que no, este día en especifico solo estaban recibiendo efectivo lo cual no me dejaron saber por el teléfono y cuando llegamos nos tuvimos que devolver a un cajero a conseguir cash No había ni una sola mesa ocupada éramos las únicas clientas y se demoraron casi 30 min en darnos la comida yo pedí un ceviche con un side de maduros y mi amiga pidió un chicharrón de pollo con un side de papas, primero llegó su comida con mi side y a los 10 min mi ceviche las papas fritas de mi amiga nunca llegaron, y mi ceviche la verdad estaba Terrible sabía a condimento con cebolla no veías ni el camarón, mientras buscaba la mesera se acercó la cocinera o no se si es la dueña que nos pregunto si todo estaba bien yo le dije que no que mi amiga ya se acabó su comida y nunca llegó sus papas fritas y que mi ceviche solo sabía a Maggie la señora se disgustó fue muy grosera la verdad que si es la dueña que pedimos servicio, cuando nos paramos a pagar la cocinera se acerca con las papas fritas de mi amiga y las deja en la mesa?? De verdad ella esperaba que nos sentáramos a comerlas ? Cuando se me acerco me dijo ud que esperaba ver los camarones enteros??? This was a nice little find, recommended by a co-worker. The food was really decent in my opinion. I ordered a pork and bean pupusa, and baleada hondureña (which I especially enjoyed), which had beans, egg and crema. Both these choices were delicious. The pupusas were about $3 each, and the baleadas are around $5, give or take. A dinner for two cost us about $20, and that included a Modelo beer I ordered to go with it. The atmosphere on a Friday night was very comfortable and relaxing. I will definitely be returning there. read more

I live close by to this establishment and make a trip here atleast twice a week The food quality is excellent, the portions are more than sufficient, the staff working here are always friendly and helpful, and the owner is a genuinely nice guy thay is always checking in with customers for their satisfaction. I loooooooovvvvvveeeeeeee this place. My fav is the pork chops with rice and beans. Nicely flavored and it's always consistently good. The special pickled spicy onions are Housemade and always tops off the dishes nicely. I always end my meal with vanilla flan and espresso shots. Soooooo good.
