Her Dad is a WWII Vet and he is very precious to us. Though he has dementia, he immediately recognized he was in a better place at La Valhalla. He was happy, content, treated with respect and given care beyond what we could ever have provided him at home. It was such a burden off our shoulders to know he was there. When we came to visit it was such a good feeling to hear the staff and few residents (3 total right now) laughing out loud and really enjoying each others company. It is not a clinical, sterile facility, but a warm, inviting home. The DeVera family is amazing in their compassion and care of their residents. The residents are not treated as residents or patients, but family members. Having to place a loved one away from their personal residence can be an overwhelming, intimidating, daunting experience for a family. Working with the DeVera family at LaValhalla eliminated all of those feelings. We are so happy that we found a residential home where all the caregivers are compassionate, caring, knowledgeable, and truly concerned about the residents in their home. We are at peace knowing that our dad is happy, safe, and well cared for thanks to the efforts and expertise of the staff at LaValhalla. I have to give the staff at La Cruz credit for taking such good care of her. It is a very new, clean, spacious and loving environment. Everyone treats her like an important part of the "family". They have gone above and beyond meeting her needs and wishes. Mom loves gardening so they built her a little planter box and she grows tomatoes, squash, cucumbers and onions. They even make her feel helpful and let her fold clothes and towels when she wants to. Everything is family oriented. They sit and have meals all together and the parties and special holidays are fabulous! We are always cheerfully invited to visit any time and there are no restrictions when we want to take her on an outing. I would highly recommend this senior care facility for anyone who wants to feel at ease that your loved one is being well taken care of.

Upon first meet Ana was kind, professional, sweet and full of knowledge about the (ALW) Assisted Living Waiver program and about the staff, the entire aspects of the Gardens. My mom had worked there for about 35 years and they welcomed her back as a resident with open arms. Ana always was there to answer questions quick to respond on emails and calls. Working with Ana was a fantastic experience; she was incredibly knowledgeable and efficient". Ana always displayed high-level professionalism and made the entire process stress-free. I highly recommend talking with Ana when considering this property for your loved ones. Ana went above and beyond to solve our issues or concerns I had. I did look at other properties in San Diego and they looked and felt like dorms or prison not to match the price. The Gardens had the lowest price for the best clean rooms and staff, the caregivers are very nice always there when needed. The Gardens felt like Family Ana made us feel like family. My mom is happy and safe. My 2 concerns: 1: with the wait staff and servers most of then were nice and friendly but a handful were always grumpy and just not professional.. They are not quick to see if someone comes in to eat and take there order or even clear the tables so other people can come in and sit. Note: I saw a server not on break in the kitchen area just eating chocolate Ice Cream, I thought Really!!!! 2: They need better activities all day even if only a handful of people are there: Example when they go in trips they should have something going on if you don't go.
