We came here for dinner thinking we might add another spot to our regular rotation, but this ended up being a one and done. When we walked in, a kind gentleman warmly greeted us and seated us right away--a great start. As soon as we sat down, complimentary warm bread with butter was served, which was a nice touch. Throughout the meal, the bus team was attentive and courteous--our water glasses were refilled without us having to ask, plates were cleared promptly, and clean utensils were provided to replace used ones, which we really appreciated. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case with our waiter. He took our order and then essentially disappeared--we didn't see him again until we had to wave him down for the check. Honestly, we wish the bus staff had been our server. We shared the seafood salad, which felt more like a single-person portion than something meant to share. I had the filet of sole Francese, and my husband ordered the chicken Pugliese, today's special. The fish was good, but I wasn't particularly wowed--the food wasn't bad, but nothing really stood out. While there were some nice touches, the inconsistent service and lack of standout dishes make it hard for us to return. read more

Earlier this year I took my husband out for his birthday on a Sunday night. The place is cozy but service was subpar. We ordered the Sunday prix fixe menu. For appetizers we ordered the pasta Fagioli and the eggplant Rollatini. The eggplant rollatini was the better of the two dishes. For entrees, we ordered the grilled chicken fettuccine Alfredo and chicken francese. Chicken francese was the better of the two dishes. The Alfredo sauce was watery and not as creamy (the ratio was bit off). For dessert we ordered the tiramisu and the rum cake. The rum cake had generous amounts of rum. Overall we have had better food and service. Thankfully we were able to dine in as walk ins at the very last minute. I had always passed this place and finally decided to come here for dinner. I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised. I was party of a large group (10+) and service was rapid and friendly. This restaurant is a few towns over from me and definitely worth the 15 minute drive. There is plenty of street parking here and I found a spot in the back lot. Made it easy even if there was a two dollar fee. It is a large restaurant with the look and feel of a cozy little shop. It is a very comfortable environment to be in. There is no rushing here. Just sit back and enjoy all the delicious food. The server came right over to us to bring menus and take a drink order. The whole staff here is friendly warm and extremely efficient. After a few minutes of deciding I went with the Muscles, my wife did the Caprese and Stuffed mushrooms. Great cool-crisp Caesar salad. What I really liked id that they let me finish before they brought out my muscles (and the rest of the main dishes.) Nice large muscles in a tasty garlic-wine sauce over pasta. I good size portion perfect for dinner. My wife loved the Caprese salad of fresh Mozzarella then enjoyed her tasty Stuffed mushrooms as her main dish. On a whim some friends of ours requested to come here for dinner. I have passed this place countless times on my way to work at 3 in the morning taking Jericho turnpike down and I always wondered how it was. We arrived and my friend's name was on the reserved plate on the table, so I knew I was in for something special. For apps we got the baked clams which was phenomenal, the fried calamari which was great and the star of the night the stuffed mushrooms! Best mushrooms I have ever had in a restaurant in 41 years. For mains I had the filet of sole Francaise which was out of this world. I didn't even touch my side pasta until I was finished with this which is a rarity in my world. The side pasta I wish the sauce was a little more innovative but not enough to lose a star over. My wife had the veal dish with the prosciutto and spinach. Phenomenal and the veal was thin and tender. The ambiance is great, the decor old school but totally fits the vibe here. A modern decor would not let me love this place any more than it already is. The Vendange Merlot is also a thing of beauty. Put that in a decanter and tell me it's a 300 dollar wine and I'd believe everything you tell me. Last night we decided to try this place. Upon walking in ambiance was sparse. Walls bare. Not cozy at all. Waiter drops menus tells us about specials and walks away. He preceded to chat with staff for the next twenty minutes even after we placed menus down and sat waiting as he looked at us several times but didn't come over. It certainly is apparent that if you are a regular you get catered to and good service. If you are new good luck trying to get served. Finally after ordering appetizers and food we were served by food runners and waiter never came over to check on us. The water boy and food runners did a better job. We felt uncomfortable as we were neglected and our waiter waited on the regulars and spent time at their tables often. We couldn't even get a check to end the misery. When he finally came over he put sugar bowl on table n walked way to come back some time later to ask if we wanted dessert or coffee. When we said no he snatched the sugar up angrily and walked away in a huff. On the way out we spoke to the owners son who was the manager that night and he said sorry. That was it. Waste of 85 dollars and a night out. I would not recommend or return. If you're not a regular don't waste your night out or money. read more

We are regular clients of this fabulous restaurant and so I decided to have a surprise party there for my husband's birthday. The staff was so accommodating, the service was impeccable, and the food was just amazing. It can be challenging to serve a large party when the full menu is offered and entrees are served at the same time and at the correct serving temperature. They're masters. In fact when we first came in and endured a very drawn out, difficult and awkward process of getting seated, we were perilously close to walking out. Glad we decided to see it through. We did not see anything like a host's stand, or a sign for 'wait here' and there was no one to greet us. I am cutting some slack because one dining room had a rowdy table of 12 going on with one bustling waiter, plus a second large group of all older women in the other room. I think at the moment they may have been short on staff. A 'Please Wait Here' sign is badly needed. On to the food...they have escargot as an app which Richard proclaimed to be fine, good but not great. But it got way better fast. Shrimp cocktail app, BIG shrimp, icy cold, butterflied, nice smooth cocktail sauce with perfect heat, lovely presentation. Richard had the duckling alla Aranchio and proclaimed it exactly the way duck should be done, moist & tender in a rich, bold sauce with just the natural sweetness of the orange coming through. I had veal Zingara, a lighter Marsala type sauce with oodles of mushrooms and delicious fresh peas that were straight from the pod. Veal was like butter. Both entrees were excellent and we'd order again for sure. The table included soft rolls, pizza bread strips, fresh butter, rosemary infused EVOO, plus a plate of lovely mini bruschetta. The wine pour was very generous. There were a few service disappointments which I don't need to elaborate on. But the food was so good, we'd return. I would rate Villa d'Este four and a half stars. My girlfriend and I dined in for Valentine's Day. We had reservations at a nearby restaurant that was unable to seat us. We stopped by a few other restaurants which were completely booked but were finally able to grab a table here. Like most other restaurants, they were very busy for Valentine's Day. They had some nice complimentary breads and bruschetta. I had a glass of Cabernet with my meal. For appetizer, we shared fresh mozzarella and tomatoes over lettuce with olive oil. For our main courses, we shared a couple pasta items. My girlfriend order rigatoni alla vodka and I had the homemade spinach tortelloni. Both were outstanding and I'd highly recommend each dish. Another visit...our first indoor dining at Villa sine COVID 19. Villa was immaculate, comfortably air conditioned with tables spaced appropriately. Greeted by all and remembered...right down to our specific cocktails. Freshest focaccia with cold creamy butter or evo. We ordered chicken with Gorgonzola cream sauce and pears...side order of pasta w excellent red sauce, and veal osso bucco over risotto. Fabulous! Ended with their outstanding zabaglione...best ever! I absolutely love Villa d'Este. There are snowy white tablecloths and napkins on the table in a carpeted quiet atmosphere. My brother-in-law and I met for dinner at 6 pm and left at 9 pm. We were the last patrons in the restaurant. We had an appetizer, wine, delicious bread, entrees and dessert and coffee. The service was impeccable with our needs anticipated before we said anything. It was very quiet and we were able to speak with each other without shouting over other conversation or loud music. I will dine here every time I'm home on Long Island. Everything was delicious from the appetizers to desert. When you arrive they bring to the table some delicious bruschetta and warm bread. I do wish that with the bread that it was soft whipped butter but it's a little on the hard and tough side. For appetizers we ordered the fried zucchini, baked clams, and calamari. Everything was flavorful and every dish was completely finished. The calamari did not have the rubbery taste, it was perfect. Paired with the marinara sauce it was great. The stuffed clams, the sauce was well worth dipping your bread in and eating. For dinner I ordered the linguini with calm sauce in a white wine sauce. The plate is a perfect size if your hungry and haven't ate. On a normal day I may have taken some of the food home with me. The linguini was cooked perfectly and the clams were just the right serving compared to the linguini. The other half of the table ordered the spinach tortellini, chicken piccata, chicken Marsala, and mussels over linguini. All the food looked and smelled delicious. For desert you have a wide variety to pick from. They do put some biscotti on the table. The biscotti was the right amount of sugary and sweet. The whole experience was great and I will be coming back to try something else, and of course to take more photos. read more

Over the years, my wife and I have fallen in love with this restaurant and the excellent people who have created such a warm and friendly environment in which to dine. The standard menu is great and carries a solid selection of mid to northern Italian dishes. On the way there my wife and I talk about the perfectly balanced chicken or shrimp francese and the chicken villa that awaits us or if they'll have the potato croquets on the menu that night (these are awesome!). When we have dinner with my father-in-law he can not seem to get enough of the chicken parmigiana and maybe a manhattan or two :) Additionally, they keep the menu fresh by offering a full seasonal menu and daily specials. I generally choose items from this list and have never been disappointed. There are often figs wrapped in bacon with gorgonzola, stuffed artichokes, several different kinds of hearty spicy ragu, homemade tortellacci stuffed with either spinach ricotta or pumpkin cream, polenta served grilled or soft with wild mushrooms, chicken and fish interestingly paired with sauteed or grilled fruit and crispy risotto croquets just to name a few of my favorites. Yum! The wine menu is mid-ranged in price but has a couple of standouts. There's a fabulous pair of wines from one of the nicest vineyards in California: Sequoia Grove. The cabernet has good balance reminiscent of classic French cabs as opposed to those in your face, heavy California cabs that are sadly so prevalent. The Sequoia chardonnay is lightly oaked so that the crispness isn't lost, which makes me happy enough to have a glass or two on occasion. Now, the food and wine all great but what really keeps us and everyone I know coming back are the folks who work there. There's just something magical when you enter an establishment where it is obvious everyone enjoys what they are doing. The staff always seems to go the extra mile to make sure your evening is something special. Whether it's a hearty hello, a personal accommodation on the menu or a pat on the back when you leave, I bet you will have just as wonderful a time as me and mine. Hope to see you there! PS. I ate here for the first time this past weekend with my family. The food was mediocre and they had a good list of wines and alcohol beverages but a few of us asked for something they didnt serve. I had the chicken parm, it was a fair size but it tasted alright, nothing that made it stand out. Also had zucchini sticks on the side which was fairly small. We didnt have dessert so I cant comment on that. The place looks like it gets the daily older couple or group from floral park/new hyde park. I wondered how such a well-reviewed restaurant could have such few reviews! I decided to give it a try for our FIL's 60th bday dinner... And boy did I found out why! As soon as we sat, they gave us bruschetta and warm bread with olive oil and butter. I ordered figs with prosciutto and Gorgonzola as an appetizer - sweet and perfect. MIL's prix fixe - minestrone soup (said it wasn't too salty, just the way she likes it) but husband's Caesar salad was a bit too salty for his liking (he's watching his sodium intake). I had the chicken and pear from the summer menu - I loved it! (You see how I love fruits with cheese and other savories?) I loved it so much instead of finishing it I decided to pack half so I could enjoy it again as Monday's lunch. I can see myself craving it and coming back again for it. Husband loved his chicken parmigiana - he wished it came with some pasta. FIL got the spinach linguini with the clams and mussels, also from the summer menu. It came al dente. He seemed to like it but I think he would have preferred something less light and instead a bit meatier (his dinner preference, but that was my fault as I suggested it to him). MIL absolutely loved her chicken cacciatore. It was her first time eating it and she said, this place really suits my taste buds (translation). When I had called to make reservations, I had mentioned it was my FIL's 60th and that I had seen great reviews on yelp. They remembered and with our prix fixe desserts (mousse and tiramisu) came candles and a song over the speakers wishing him a happy birthday. It was great. They ordered coffee and it came out with biscotti. We def enjoyed the biscotti dunked in the coffee. It's not part of our parents' culture to drink coffee this way so this too was a first for them, and they absolutely enjoyed it. The joy for me was in seeing that my PIL enjoyed this eating experience immensely. You know how gratifying it is when after long hard yelp research you find what you hope is a gem and you go there and the collective experience of your dining party is super positive? Well that's how it felt today! (One measure of success is that we didn't hear any comparisons to Asian cooking nor any complaints of how greasy the food is - and that is a huge deal when Asian parents don't do that! That means they truly enjoyed it!) I'm quite sure the wait staff and other patrons had a culture shock in seeing an Asian family walk in, but boy did we too have a culture shock as we sat down at 5:30 and all the tables around us began to fill up throughout the night with one elegant silver-haired party after another. Silver-haired folks with good taste that is. It was a wonderful way, in retrospect, to welcome my FIL to the post-60 club - boy did he feel very young sitting there as others politely clapped after the happy birthday song. He was convinced that an establishment that receives that many elderly patrons has got to be amazing in every way: the food, the service, the ambience, the price point, the temperature, the comfiness of the seats, etc. (I mean, this place even has a third bathroom - men's, women's, and handicap accessible! My husband marveled at that.) I don't know if I can return though because as my MIL offered to pay, she accidentally put down a 50 instead of a 100 as part of the check and then we left. We were looking at trophies and jewelry in neighboring storefronts when they came out holding the bill and our bills. My MIL apologized profusely saying she meant to put down the 100 not the 50. I feel like I can't return because we kind of stuck out in that place and also it doesn't help that our Asian compadres are known to be stingy tippers. [If there are two stereotypes I abhor and actively try fight as an Asian, they are: driving consciously and competently and controlled, as well as tipping handsomely when deserved (20-40%). I hope they don't hold this one honest mistake against people who look like us... or more importantly, us! But this place was so delicious, I might just be tempted to risk being eyed suspiciously just so I can savor some awesome food again. Other reviewers are correct: the chairs are certainly comfy - worn and patched but comfy. They def didn't rush us and folks who were there before our long dinner were still there after we left. I love clean bathrooms and often see the restroom as a representative of how clean the restaurant is overall, but this one was just ok. The establishment is dated and it looks so, but clean for sure. (Rust on bathroom stalls next to toilets though - they def give me the heebie-jeebies.) By the time we left, everyone except folks at one table were senior citizens, and in the dining room we were in (there are two), ten tables were full of senior citizens, some on dates, some on double dates and others in large groups - and these people know how to eat! This place has always been one of my favorite places. Moved away but every time I am in town we make a stop. I had a family birthday party for my mother's 80th birthday. But we were told they only had house wine. Since the entrees were reasonably priced we were very surprised when we got the bill and the house wine was 10.95 per glass. For house wine! And the stuffed pepperS app is 1 pepper not 2 for 13.95. We felt a little put off with that since the menu said 2 and I couldn't imagine they would charge $28 for a two pepper appetizer. Maybe they ran out of peppers. I don't know. So the place is good but I think I know why it took us 5 years to go back. There are many good places. It seems like old-fashioned Italian restaurants are a dying breed. Sure, you'll find a few gems out there, but unfortunately places like Olive Garden are becoming the norm. Luckilly, Villa D'este in Floral Park shines with its daily price fixe, offering a nicely sized appetizer, selection of well-prepared entrees, and diverse desserts for a reasonable price. My stuffed mushrooms were almost decadent, calamari marinara (prepared fra diavolo) done right, and Italian cheesecake scrumptious. Service was meticulous: I like a place where my water glass never goes empty, especially when I'm eating spicy food (which is often). Like many Italian restaurants of this breed, the staff is completely male and it makes you feel like you're dining in another era. The ambiance is just lovely: cozy, quiet rooms where you can actually hear your conversations. It also seemed like the staff knew every patron and we were the newbies. While the price fixe is a few more dollars on the weekend, it's well worth it. Support joints like this before they all disappear; you'll be glad you did. read more

My job had our holiday party here this evening. It's not often that I gave out a five star review, but this place is worth the five stars. For starters we had bread and salad. The salad came with the house dressing. The salad was very fresh and the lettuce was crisp. The house dressing was a perfect mixture of oil, vinegar, and herbs. I didn't have any of the bread but my co workers all stated the bread was good and taste fresh. Next we had the pasta, I'm sure what was used to make the sauce but I honestly tell you it was one of the best tomato sauces I have ever had. The waiter stated the sauce it made fresh everyday. As an entree I had the Talapia Marechiara, which was a baked Talapia with a red sauce, garlic string beans, and potato croquette. The fish taste fresh and was well seasoned. The red sauce that was poured over the fish was very tasty and light. It wasn't a heavy sauce which I appreciated. The potato croquette was well seasoned, as well as the garlic string beans. The garlic wasn't over powering it had just the right amount of garlic. I skimped dessert but everyone else's looked good. This restaurant it definitely worth another visit. read more

Picked up mom over at North Shore Towers for a Birthday dinner. Although she'd lived there for years she had never been to Villa D'Este nearby and was thrilled that we picked a spot she hadn't already been to a thousand times. Quick 5 minute drive, easy parking out back. Beautiful, reserved ambience, relaxed, professional service with a very pleasant greeting. Nice comped bruschetta and some really excellent house pinot and chiantis, generously poured at only $10/glass or only $29/bottle for an excellent Louis Jadot Macon Villages. Awesome bread basket with red hot, house baked foccacia to start things off. The starters, memorably the baked clams, stuffed mushrooms and a pitch perfect Caesar were all on point. Mains were generously portioned and all outstanding; standouts were the first rate, thin, crisp veal parm, the grilled angus/NY Strip ordered Pizzaiaola (smothered in mixed peppers, onions, mushrooms and red gravy), the pastas and the fish. Mom had the Prix Fixe which was an absolute steal at $31, three courses plus sides included! The tartuffo dessert was the best I'd ever had, a perfect chocolate covered Bocce Ball stuffed with cherries and nuts, dressed with house made whipped cream. Wow. As a 3d Generation New Yorker, now living in Brooklyn it was nice to escape the rip-offs and pretensions of Manhattan and Brooklyn dining and to enjoy a delicious, reasonably priced relaxed meal at a place which still values "hospitality". Villa D'Este is approaching it's 50th Anniversary. In an extremely competitive, fickle dining environment it's easy to see why they've lasted so long. read more
