I've found the food here to be good but not great. I've always had fantastic service and enjoyed the ambiance of the place. They have a cool tree that's always lit up that I find mesmerizing whilst drinking. There's a great, large patio as well to enjoy a nice afternoon. The queso here is addicting and so are the margaritas! I usually just go here to drink and snack on chips, queso, and salsa but the food here isn't bad so give it a shot! read more

If you like steak and onion street tacos the this place is amazing! The best steak tacos around by far. Steak and caramelized onions on a corn tortilla that comes with an amazing avocado and jalapeño dipping sauce. The queso is pretty good and the chips are awesome! Great service as well! This is for sure my all time favorite Mexican Restaurant. Their customer service is great and I have been frequenting Villa Grande for years!! Their food is amazing quality and their price isn't bad. The restrooms are clean, there is plenty parking around the area, there is never a long wait for seating, you are served with complimentary chips and salsa that is end less(the one thing I hate is having to pay for hops and salsa), there is outdoor seating, they have a bar, and the food is fabulous! We went on a Sunday afternoon and the atmosphere was great, not too loud, not too quiet. It was just right. I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for affordable Mexican food. read more

Atmosphere and service is excellent. Food was delivered within 5 minutes of ordering. Fast food at restaurant prices. However, it wasn't even as good as most fast food places. Taste was overpowered by a tomato flavor with the bitter flavor of cheap tomato sauce. This was even true for the salsa. The chips were excellent. read more

My wife and I went in today for a quick meal before going to meet a friend. We came in and it wasn't busy but there were a few tables in there. We got sat in a cozy corner table. Our server came over without chips and salsa and asked us what we wanted to drink and I looked at my wife and asked her if she wanted an appetizer and when I turned to the server, she was gone. I think our server's name was America?? Anyway, when she came back with our drinks, we then ordered our food and I ordered a margarita. She repeated the order which was correct and then she left. We waited about another 5 minutes (by now we have been there about 10-15) and we still didn't have chips and salsa. She came with my drink and said " oh, y'all still don't have chips and salsa? ". Like we were supposed to go get it or something. She came back with it a few minutes later. After two tables who got sat before us got their food before we did (and my wife and I split an appetizer plate), we finally got our food. The cheese in the quesadillas was not melted, the cheese on the plate was sticking to the other items which means it has been sitting in the window for a bit. But, we didn't say anything and ate it. She never came back to check on us until she brought the check. She dropped the check and I said we needed one box and 2 small containers for our queso and sour cream. She returned with a box and nothing else and walked off. No small containers and never asked , "Any dessert?" , "how was everything?" Or "I'll take care of the check when you're ready". We never saw her again. I very rarely make reviews but, this was just bad. The food was okay, not saying we won't be back, but, the servers need better training and need to know how to at least pretend they care for their tables. read more

The food has a good flavor and the facility was clean and comfortable. Not the greatest food but a solid good. I do however have a really large safety concern since they have set themselves up as a "No Gun Zone". So, I do not expect a return visit. read more

Sorry but I gotta slaughter this one. The only stars I'm giving are for the patio setup which is great, and the dessert which was great. First of all chips, salsa and queso all not very good...Salsa tasted too much like canned tomatoes. Chips were meh. I ordered a premium frozen margarita that wasn't very good(I'm an expert) and it cost 14 dollars say wtf!?? I ordered two ground beef tacos hoping this would be one place that would get it right but nope taco casa would have been better and a larger portion....where's the beef?? We had dinner there late Wednesday afternoon. Ordered the Carne Asada with Enchilada, a $12.50 menu item. Steak came out "cool" to the touch, and was somewhat tasteless. Had to ask for tortillas, finally about 10 minutes into meal when we were able to get our server's attention. Then they charged us for the tortillas! Much better Mexican food available in Denton, better service to be obtained elsewhere along with a friendlier staff. We had the tableside Guacamole and ours tasted okay, but the avocados used were obviously(by taste) a "little" green. We love Mexican food, and wanted to give this new one in Denton a try...unfortunately it was a waste of time and $$ read more

If the brisket tacos weren't so damn good I'd knock this down to one star for yet another terrible service experience... probably bordering on the worst I've had. At this point, though, I don't know that the blame can be entirely placed on the waitstaff (even though the problem is directly them). I've seen this issue at both locations, which leads me to believe that there is a problem in the hiring, training, and basic management. On my most recent visit, the waitress didn't even know the menu. I specifically ordered the brisket taco dinner, not the appetizer portion. When the food came out, there were no beans or rice, which means she rang up the app portion. When I asked about it, hoping that maybe they were just on another plate left in the kitchen, she said "no, tacos don't come with sides." I nicely reminded her that I wanted the dinner, not appetizer... and the only difference between the two is the price because the sides are added. She snottily said "well, I can get you some if you want to pay extra." Whatever. By that point I just wanted to eat and leave as quickly as possible. I guess in an attempt to remedy the situation (or to tell me to shove it, possibly), she showed up with a sloppy plate of refried beans and rice and put it down in front of me saying "I'm not gonna charge you." Thanks for the effort, I guess? She obviously didn't care enough to check the menu and see that she was mistaken apologize for fighting with me... or notice that it was supposed to come with charro beans. Immediately after dropping the plate down she then toppled a full root beer all over the floor, my purse, and the table. And then walked away, no words. I've been a server and I get that spills are embarrassing, but you say SOMETHING. She just disappeared and eventually a manager came back to sweep up the ice. His only remarks were, "oops! Did anyone get wet?" Never showed back up, though, to clean off the wet table or check on us after multiple issues. I'm not a high maintenance diner. Again, I've worked in food service and I've had those tables. I was asking for the bare minimum. I then kicked it into turbo mode and ate as quickly as I could. The waitress was gone for a while, but after drinks were emptied she came back and said "do you guys want refills?" After all that amazing service, she finally arrived with the checks. And out of a table of 5 of us, every single one was wrong and switched around. If you've already screwed up that much, I'd think you'd care enough to double-check. I think that's what really got to me... she showed no remorse or even acknowledgment that things were wrong. Whatever. We just paid and left. As I said, part of me thinks the problem is management not hiring, training, or holding their servers responsible, so I'm not really sure who deserves the blame for problems like what we saw. Needless to say, I may just order take-out from here on out... which is a shame, because the restaurant has a really cute ambiance and for $10+ a plate, I'd like to be able to enjoy it there. read more

Good food. Great atmosphere, the paintings in there are original and amazing. The food is decent. It's pretty standard as far as texmex. It's not OMG WHAT IS THIS. But the salsa is made fresh and is amazing. I would go there just because of that. The drinks are expensive though. Try the brisket quesadilla. read more

This is another good alternative for Tex-Mex in Denton, especially if you're looking for more of an "upscale" or nicer environment. The food is good, but could be cheaper at other restaurants that have a lesser appealing ambience. Good choice for a family or date meal though! read more

We just moved into a house nearby so tonight we thought we would give this place "try". Oh my goodness!! We are so pleasantly surprised!!! Our server named Elisa was great from the moment we sat down. My husband had the Platillo Grande and I had the Shrimp tacos. His was a wonderful sampling of all the things you want with good Mexican food. A chili relleno stuffed with beef, a chicken enchilada w/sour cream sauce, a cheese enchilada with chili con carne and finally, a beef fajita taco. Each item as delicious as the next. My shrimp tacos had a sauce on them I've never tasted before but will absolutely have again. And don't even get me started on the table side guacamole & homemade flour tortillas. Hooray! Hooray! As native Texans, we take our Mexican food very seriously. And this is seriously amazing food! read more

Marinara like slasa, greasy tenderloin tips, bland beef, dry totrtillas, expensive for very plain old food. Just Bland. If that sounds good to you then go here. The food was good and the patio was comfortably cooled by fans and misters. The only reason that they received 3 stars instead of 5 is that the wait was unreasonably long. We had to go inside to ask for our drinks to be refilled and to inquire after our food that we had ordered over 40 minutes ago. Ordered the beef enchilada plate. My first bite tasted so bad it was like no enchiladas I had ever eaten. I didn't want to make a scene in front of my grandchildren so I continued eating. Could only eat half. Woke up at 12 that night deathly ill with chills and diarrhea. It was definitely food poisoning. Talked to other people and they said they'd had the same experience. chili relleno Queso fresco mozzarella cheese Order a chili relleno with Queso fresco and it was served with mozzarella cheese instead of what they said it would be (Queso fresco). The relleno was not battered on the top side and it tasted NASTY. I have eaten a many of rellenos in my days. Also the cheese sauce is a canned sauce. I did the spoon test and it was off the spoon in less than 30 seconds (clean) I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I've been here twice now and have been disappointed both times. The pina colada was good but I can't get past the service. I had to wait for everything I needed and the first time I went I was given a glass with lipstick on it. 4 stars only because the margaritas we had were pretty stout! This was my first time at Villa Grande and granted it was lunch time but I feel like the wait staff should be slightly more attentive. The food was just okay I had the spinach and mushroom quesadillas and my boyfriend had the lunch chicken fajitas. Now he can put away some food so the lunch portion was not exactly filling for him and they were slightly dry and overdone. My food was okay. Canned spinach yuck! ;( read more
