Actually 3.5. Spent the night here because I had a bit too much to drink and didn't want to drive. I just needed a place to rest my head. This is a basic motel located next to other motels and lodgings. Place could use some work but, for the low cost, it was fine. Attendant allowed for an early check-in which was good as I just finished a 10+ mile hike. Room was clean but a bit worn down. Towels were not threadbare like many budget motels. Heater worked very well. Refrigerator was a nice size with a separate freezer section. Microwave looked fairly new. Walls are thin as I had a neighbor on the phone talking loud 3 am. Luckily, that didn't stop me from sleeping. read more

I reserved 3 nights at this hotel with some trepidation after reading some of the reviews. I now realize that it is a case of people expecting a four star hotel while paying bargain budget prices. The lady was wonderfully welcoming at check in, she explained that they do not do room service everyday but if I asked they would be happy to. The room I had was on the second floor and was very clean. None of the lampshades were torn, the room was clean, the bathroom was spotless, the bed was comfortable the heater and air conditioning worked fine. The second floor has cathedral ceilings and give a nice feel to the room. The room itself was larger than I expected. I have no complaints and would recommend staying here without hesitation. read more

Planned a last minute trip with my parents to visit my brother and this place thankfully had vacancies. It's a small, mom and pop like motel. It's perfect for just wanting a place to chill and rest. If you want super fancy with lots of amenities, go somewhere else. The lady at check in was very sweet and friendly. We wanted to play some time of board/card game, but didn't think to bring any. The lady up front was kind enough to let us use a deck of cards she had! The bed was super comfy. The pillows are thin, which I like, but my mom wished they had more stuffing. If you are looking for a frilly high end chain hotel, look elsewhere. This is a locally owned and operated mom and pop hotel. We were looking for a place to stay on our road trip up the CA coast. This is a great value for the price. It is inexpensive. It is extremely clean. The rooms are spacious and well appointed (though to some may seem dated). The furniture is in good condition and bed was clean and comfy. They have free WiFi, a mini fridge with a decent freezer, a 4 cup coffee maker and a microwave. Closet area has a full length mirror and a small desk with chair. Also has a 36" table with two chairs. Plenty of storage space in the dresser and nightstand. Shower had plenty of hot water and great water pressure. It also has a tub in the bathroom which many hotels are going away from. The other chain hotel we stayed in didn't have microwaves and has the single cup coffee makers. I will say that I work for a major entertainment company that has some of the nicest resorts in the world and have worked in some of those resorts. Though this is not the Rita Carlton it is well kept and I would stay here again in a heartbeat. read more

I got lucky & booked it through Priceline for $50 a night ($63 including tax & fees), the owner(?) wanted to charge me an extra $20 for 2 queen beds when I had called & asked if I could get 2 beds instead of a queen size bed, trippin'. I've stayed here for the last time. The price isn't worth it despite being lower priced than nearby hotels. I hate to sound cliche, but it is a "dump". Just about every item on the inside is old, dirty, and in need of repair. The lamp near our bed had no switch to turn on. There are plaster patches on the walls, the remote to the TV barely works, and in our case if you leave your room after 11 (we were staying for an extra day) they don't clean your room. I also specifically asked for a quiet room which we got the first night. However, on the 2nd night, despite vacancies, students were placed in the room right next to us and were very loud up until we called the front desk at 2am and complained. The walls are "paper thin"! Good luck getting a good nights rest. Again, it's just not worth saving a few bucks unless you are hard up for cash. read more

Usual place we stay in Pismo Beach was booked. Our fallback spot in SLO was also booked. Ended up here with a bid thru Priceline.com... VERY inexpensive, extremely clean, courteous staff, flat screen TV, free Wi-Fi.. Refrigerator and microwave in the room. Pleasantly surprised! :-) 7-11 is right up the street from motel and a big grocery store Von's (which is basically a Safeway) is 2-3 miles away. I think some of the reviews are unfairly comparing this to a ritzy hotel. Area is well travelled, but peaceful, with multiple motels on same street.. I would come here again, mainly because of the cleanliness of the room. I like that. read more

You know that when all cities between Santa Barbara and Carmel are sold out except for this place...there is much to be questioned. Nonetheless when money doesn't matter because there really are no options but this place and when you really cannot stay on the road another minute...you actually can catch a wink or two . There'll be no hotel ratings in this place. Instead think of it as your good friend's friend offering you hospitality in a location convenient to everything so you don't need to rely on what they are offering! This is going to be the place that you leave your feet protected from the carpet, and you dare not consider being too bare in bed. Remember, you are here with expectations to just make it through the night instead of sleeping on the back of a Harley Davidson or on the side of the road. As it turns out, the 6 hours here passed without incident and I was happy to pay for safety. I am not thinking that I will come back here, but if the road were to lead me here, I at least know that I could ultimately get some sleep. The worst night's sleep 140 dollars can buy. After driving and calling around for a room, I called Villa Motel and they had a room. I asked what their rates were and was told $125. I asked what it would be after tax, and I was again told $125. We reserve the room and drive 30 minutes over to the motel. We arrived tired at nearly 1am, and upon check in I was told that the price was $140 after tax. After a halfhearted, sleepy protest from me, I just paid it so I could go to sleep. She was also very nosey about what car we had, what we had in our trailer, etc. Nunya, Lady. As we were getting our bags, however, the woman at the front desk kept staring out the windows at us. This went on as we situated the truck, as we got ice... For 30 minutes she insisted on being a creeper. Thoroughly weirded out, I barely slept. The room was clean enough, aside from the cigarette burn in the blanket and the dirty bar of soap in the bathroom, but the staff was unfriendly and weird. Villa Motel: bait and switch advertising is illegal. You've been reported to the BBB. read more

My girlfriend found this place on Priceline offering $49.99 for two persons, and even that felt like I was somewhat overcharged. I'm kindof a stickler for being safe and secure, and the first thing I noticed was that the window in the bathroom would not lock, and there was no lock on the door to the bathroom. This wouldn't be a concern...if only I wasn't in a strange place nearly 250 miles from home. We managed to jury rig something with an umbrella that would keep the window from opening, but I slept very lightly. I wouldn't stay here again - I would rather find a place further away or spend more money to stay in a hotel. The most glaring thing was - the only reason I stayed here was because I had a job interview in SLO so after a 6 hour drive from Orange County, I needed a place to sleep and relax before the interview. No such luck. Apparently the Villa Motel is doing renovations, and construction starts promptly at 8 am. Banging, stomping, falling wood, even power-saws and nailguns...and thanks to the walls as thick as tissue paper, it was all piped into our room as if we were expected to pick up a hammer and join in. I would have at least added one star if the night manager had told us or warned me that there was construction going on in the morning and to be ready, but there was no mention of it. Lastly, it's a motel, not a hotel. Don't expect much. It gets two stars because there was hot water and the bathroom and room itself were actually unexpectedly nice. Also, the Wi-Fi worked as advertised - I was at least able to check my email. In the morning, though, there wasn't even a manager in the office to check us out - I ended up giving my key to the cleaning lady. If you're literally desperate for a place to stay, and you can get that same Priceline deal, I would say go ahead and take your chances, but for $99.99 a night I would probably recommend finding a Motel Six instead. read more

After booking a room online at their more modern inn across the street (Los Padres) my partner and I arrived at the inn about an hour or so later. When we arrived we were told that our room was given away because we used a credit/ debit card to pay and only major credit cards would be accepted. We received no phone call on this matter. The front desk offered us a room across the street which we felt obligated to comply to after driving for hours that day. I'm aware that a $60 room isn't going to be a king suite of any kind, but we have been road tripping down the coast from WA for the last 5 days and this is by far the most ill maintained and outdated hotel. There is a layer of dust on everything, stains on the walls, carpets, and linens, along with several other unfinished repairs. If you want a bed that has broken springs and is hard as a board this is the place for you. It's the holiday inn for us tomorrow! read more

I like to support small businesses but not at any price. Do not stay here. It's a total dump and overpriced. They will overcharge when it's a busy weekend in town. I was so disgusted by the condition of my room that I wore socks the entire time and slept in sweat pants. I had to stick around for a wedding but once it was over I picked up my stuff and drove home so I wouldn't have to stay another night. I genuinely was afraid of bed bugs or who knows what else. The moment I stepped into the room I started sneezing. I wouldn't be so angry if the owners actually made an effort but based on appearances, they take your money and don't care. I should've followed my instincts and gotten an Air BnB or lodging out of town and sacrificed the short drive. I have no problem bashing this place as it's a rip-off and the owners seem to have no pride of ownership or integrity. I genuinely believe any positive reviews were arranged by the owners. This motel was okay. It was clean and very simple. The staff was nice and very accommodating. The downside is that the walls are paper thin. I can hear everything if the person is loud enough. I heard sneezing in the next room. I heard people laughing really loud with the TV blaring. I just slept with the TV on to drown out the sounds. If you're a light sleeper and noise bothers you, then this would not be the place for you. The pillows are thin. I could have rolled up the towels and it would have been thicker than the pillows. But you get what you pay for and it is a very inexpensive place to crash a couple of nights. Would I go back? Sure, why not? It wasn't terrible. read more

We were driving around town looking for a place with vacancy and pulled into this place. Man at the desk was very friendly and showed us the room before hand. The price was just right and the room looked clean enough. Was a bit worried about the overall cleanliness because a lot of the furniture was extremely worn out but the sheets and bedding was absolutely clean so I had a good nights rest. Great location ! We walked to the downtown area where all the bars were at so that saved us Uber money. Would I stay again? Yes , but only if it's just for the one night. Clean and spacious rooms. They offer free WiFi that's super reliable and fast. The water pressure is absolutely awesome and consistent. The hot water doesn't fluctuate like most hotels (major plus). It's just 2 minutes from downtown SLO and the street is pretty quiet (especially at night). The staff is very friendly and helpful (especially the one that cleans your room). It doesn't get much better for the price. This is my first time staying here and it won't be my last. As long as the price stays the same, this is where I'll be staying every time I come to SLO. read more

My girlfriend and I stayed here on 7/11 as most other places in town were far more expensive on this Saturday night. We were charged $99 for a basic room which was generally clean, but no working air conditioning. Same was true of the a/c when I asked my neighbor. The pool was not heated (was cold) but looked clean. We felt we paid too much for too little, but maybe that is how it is when not making reservations on a summer Saturday afternoon. read more

Stayed at the Villa Motel for 2 nights whilst driving up the coast from LA to San Francisco. The motel was located centrally on the main street and looked pretty neat from the outside with its fresh turquoise and yellow paint work. Our room and bathroom were large, clean and functional. Free wifi was stable. Shower was nice, with strong pressure. Service was good and efficient - checkin was painless, room was cleaned everyday, towels were replaced. Parking was available just in front of the room. Overall this motel was great value for money. read more

Decent motel, just don't expect any ritz or glam here. It's cheap (we paid $50 after bargaining with the desk clerk) for a room with a king bed on a Friday with no advance notice. The room was clean and simple. Ours had a small TV, microwave, mini fridge, table with 2 chairs, and desk. The bathroom had a small stall shower, no tub, and small sink/vanity area. The motel had free wi-fi when we stayed there (Sept. 2011). The pool area was small and outside next to the parking lot -- it looked better than most I've seen at budget motels, but still I probably wouldn't go in. The motel is close to downtown and Cal Poly. This is a good place to stay to catch some shut eye or if you're on a budget. Be sure to talk the price down though -- I wouldn't pay $100 to stay here when there are other nicer options at that price around town. read more

What a lovely motel in SLO! You just don't find places like this anymore. The room was good sized, clean, bright and inviting. Carpets were clean & unstained. It was fell furnished & had lovely decorations. Beds were really comfy. The staff here was really nice & friendly. We had absolutely amazing service at front desk who took our call and checked us into our rooms when we got there. We used the pool once and I must say that it was very well maintained and clean unlike other motels which don't maintain their swimming pools. The parking lot was well lit. Ample space for parking, and well-maintained. We'll definitely be back here if we're in this area again. read more

Booked on Priceline looking for a 2 star hotel and ended up here. Not sure why I see so many negative reviews, I'm guessing the place was recently renovated? It was definitely just painted on the outside that's for sure because it's now a tacky sort of aquamarine type color. It's definitely not a dingy fleabucket like some yelpers have suggested. Room was roomier than expected and had some cute decorations. Everything looked very clean. Very high ceilings leave the room feeling even more spacious. Came with a coffee maker, blow dryer, and mini fridge. Heater worked very well and I accidentally made my room boiling...whoooops. Pretty good location, cheap cab ride from downtown SLO. The help was very nice and accommodating of our requests. Free wifi without a password haha (I'm guessing there aren't any houses within range so nobody steals it) one complaint...the shower heads do need replacing...waste a ton of water just blassssting you. I felt like someone was sprayin me down with a pressure washer lol, however it does get you nice and clean :-) long story short: DON'T LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS, I think they must have been from before a renovation happened because I was very happy with the motel and I've stayed at a LOT of motels because I travel frequently. Booked this at expensive rate of 120.. due to all was full in town. This would have been expensive at 1/2 the price. Walls, lines and sheets thin. Hear conversation through the walls. Yes rooms are alittle larger, bathroom is strange, my sink was maybe 2 /12 ft off the floor ( and Im short). Only thing good about the motel is close to downtown which is always charming... owner/manager is friendly. POOL BROKEN/EMPTY and facality advertised swimming pool. First there is no pool (from the pictures posted here and another reviewer mentioned pool). This is a very clean Motel and nice owners. I like the large parking lot and location for Cal Poly students. Roomy rooms with tall ceilings. I've stayed in a king room and a two bed queen room. Prices vary depending on whether it's a Poly Parent weekend, or some other in demand weekend and then it goes way up. In off season more reasonable. I think they keep it very clean and we didn't find it that noisy (but we run fan/a-c wherever we stay to drown out noise). As someone mentioned, it's not a Hotel, it's a Motel so set your expectations accordingly. read more

We came here for the price, really. We called around to try to get the most decent deal for three days, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I really hate the pricing scheme in this area. Thursday was $79, Friday was $120 or something and Saturday was $180, plus fees and taxes our bill totaled $500 and some change. Believe it or not, we called other crappier places and they wanted $240 a night, so this was still good. The room is not bad, it is spacious, flat screen Tv, niceish bath, beds are ok. It is rather quiet at night with the occasional drunk student walking on the street trying to sing Rihanna or Eminem. My issue with the place, hence the 3 star, is the smell. The freaking room smells like dirty socks mixed with rotten fruit.We got used to it more or less after the first night, but it is just bad. After you charge those atrocious prices for the weekend, you would think you can afford some freaking glade plug-ins. Wifi is fast at night (duh), but at peak hours is useless, plus is unsecured, so no thank you, I'm not connecting to that. We will still keep this place in mind for next time we're here, but if we do come here , we'll be prepared with some plug-in scents and incense sticks. read more

the worst place we have ever stayed in 47 years of marriage. Holes in walls, plaster not ifnished on wall. Lamp falling off wall. Bad carpeting. rust on metal, shower door didn't shut. bad paint job. Bad holes and marks on walls. Very noisy, dust on top of bed, dresser, heater etc. The bed wasn't even on the bed frame when we arrived. the manager fixed that but the rest could not have been fixed unless they remodeled it. They did have a new door and lock. We told Priceline and of course they could do nothing and all apologized. But the truth is don't always trust what you read. read more

Had to stay in SLO for work. After driving all night, we needed to find a hotel that would let us check in before 4pm. After calling a ton of hotels and motels, my co worker finds this lil flea bag motel. I call and talk to the owner, who seemed so genuinely understanding and said we could come check in early and let us sleep. So awesome...right?! My coworkers and I drive the few miles to the hotel, pull up in the parking lot and almost immediately the owner is out the office door walking towards us. I get out of my truck and try to initiate a conversation (IE: 'hi I'm Kit, we just talked on the phone) abruptly he cuts me off and points at my coworkers truck and yells, 'no pets!' I tried to explain to him that my coworkers dog is not a pet but a service dog. Clearly he was ignoring me, so my coworker brings out all the paperwork and access cards to show that the dog is a service dog. He completely dismisses my coworker and continues ranting on and on about no pets. Finally after he shut up, I explained to him that California laws clearly state that a service animal is not a pet and paperwork wise, full access means he cannot refuse the service dog. After arguing for over 15 min the douche bag owner, who at this point knows he's wrong says, 'sorry, we're booked, no rooms available tonight.' Moral of the story, the owner is a giant ass who doesn't care about the LAW and refused our business due to my handicapped coworker. Classy move Villa Motel!
