Don't let this place ruin your special day. I wish there's a "negative star rating" here. My friends' wedding took place here. First, they were supposed to serve pork for the main course and they served turkey. I guess they're trying to save money by fooling people. Second, a THEFT occured. The cash for payment and checks as gifts to the newly weds were stolen. We caught the bartender wandering around the gifts and was caught by the bride's mother opening the cash box. The were also going in and out the newly weds room that was supposedly for them to keep their belongings during the ceremony as things were missing when it was time to pack things up. The management apologized about the food and is continuing investigation about the theft. Take your gatherings/events elsewhere. read more

My review is on the Friday Night Fish Fry. Not impressed AT ALL. Showed up around 6:30 with 8 people. While I knew we had a big party, it says on the flyer that reservations are taken for parties of 5 or more. When I got there, the hostess tells us that we HAD to have a reservation b/c our party was over 5 people. Huh??? Where did it say that? Anyway - they ended up seating us at two tables - 5 and 3 at each. Service was horrible. Staff just yelling at each other across the dining room to get another staff member's attention. Free refills on pop - NO WAY. Seriously - do places still do that...charge for EVERY refill? Baked Tilapia - great option if you don't want the fried stuff but it would have been nice if it was room and not room temperature. Fried Cod - would have been nice if it was drained on a paper towel before they served it. It was really greasy! All You Can Eat - You can get it on the fish but they aren't giving you the fries and cole slaw to go with it. WHAT??? Salad Bar - Leaves MUCH to be desired. Reviewing the Sunday Brunch only. Went here with the fam and what a treat! We were served quickly and their coffee was really fresh. The carving station had turkey, beef and the salad bar was huge. The hot entree items were everything from eggs benedict to pasta, fish and other items. The variety is really good and everything was fresh and hot. Best part: ice cream station for the kids and adults alike. for under $20 it's a great deal in this area. We are there tomorrow for Easter Sunday, so I'll update then! read more

My boyfriend and I had never been tubing or to Villa Olivia before so we decided to go last Wednesday. My boyfriend made sure to call and make sure there was tubing so we didn't drive down there just to find out it wasn't open.........Well, low and behold we get there and were all geared up just to be told it's not open Wednesday's. The girl on the phone said they were open and we made sure to say Wednesday when we asked. We wasted an hour of our time driving and were both very frustrated. We came back the next day and had a very decent experience second time around. The hills were fun and the new magic carpet hill transportation was nice. We had a blast, but I'd advise the managers in charge of the slopes to better train staff on hours of operation. Lots of time and gas money could have been spared. This is a Sunday brunch review. Aside from the pretentious feeling atmosphere which I guess I can't fault them for (it IS a country club), we were pleased to find they let the general public "rifraff" in to eat, even while my family was dressed casually in Bears gear (it WAS gameday!) The brunch was top notch, and very fairly priced for the quality, in my opinion. I LOVED the made to order waffles and omelettes. The desserts looked heavenly and the mini blueberry muffin was very fresh tasting. The strawberry preserves that they offer were warm and delicious. I put that on my waffles. It would be great if you could gove zero stars. Made the mistake of coming here to golf one more round before the season ended. No one informed us until we were on the first hole they aerated the course so even when you were on the fairway you didn't have a good shot. The greens were covered in sand, again we weren't told anything about that. There was an "outing" today that we weren't informed about so when we tried to speed up the pace of play we were informed by the extremely slow people in front of us that we weren't allowed to go ahead of them and if we had a problem to talk to the pro shop. We tried to talk to a manager and we were told he was out on the course. No problem, just have him drive out to us so we can talk about this issue, no one stopped by and we ended up finishing the round with no one from the course talking to us. When we stopped back into the pro shop we were told the manager knew but he had other things to do. Avoid Villa Olivia at all costs! The service is horrendous. Several months ago we visited with the hopes of planning a bridal shower here. The minimum requirement was a little high and the prices were inconsistent between two brochures. We asked for clarification and were given the "I dont know why the prices are different" answer and so we left. The banquet planner called us several times after that to coax us back, but we had already booked elsewhere. Today, we visited with 16 people. We were seated at two seperate tables and asked to be seated at one. The waitress told us absolutely not in a very rude manner. We asked to speak with the manager. He told us we were welcome to go to whatever restaurant we wanted because they do not seat large groups together. After I pointed out that several other groups had simply moved their tables closer together, he told us that what he should really do is go and raise a stink to them for moving their own tables. He then allowed us to move ours. What a hassle. The food is ok, the service is horrible. I wouldn't step foot in here again even if it were free! read more

**SNOWBOARDING/SKIING REVIEW** I usually go to ski resorts further away with good trails to snowboard, but I wanted to teach my wife to snowboard somewhere close and thought this might be a good spot to learn. When I got to Villa Olivia, the staff were generally friendly but I felt the rented board was a bit substandard...her toes hung over too much which made it near impossible for her to turn. Needless to say, I could not really teach her to s-curve. Apparently this was the biggest board they had for her. There was enough snow packed on but it seemed that the park had not made any artificial snow, so the slopes were icy from midday. Along with my wife not being able to S-curve, the ice made it even more difficult because she couldn't control her speed on the slightest slope. There seemed to be several kids around getting lessons; one of the instructors seemed annoyed with anyone outside of the group...she made me feel like I was in the way. I can't control people's bad attitudes so I just let it go. Towards the end of the day, I was going up the rope tow and tried to keep my distance from the kid in front of me. Another kid was right behind me and as I released the rope to keep my distance from the kid in front of me, the kid behind me got too close and tripped over my snowboard. I tried to make sure the kid was ok but the same instructor from before scolded me and made me feel guilty. My wife and I felt extremely uncomfortable and we just left. Overall, my wife couldn't learn, and I got a few nasty scrapes on my board from the ice that had formed. In addition, the slopes were boring even for the Midwest...I would not recommend this place. read more

Horrendous service and total waste of money. My brother came up with his family from Florida and I wanted to take them to a near by to have some winter fun and I should have took them to Wisconsin instead. First off I brought my little cousin along because she the same age as my brothers kids and she lives in Bartlett and they gave us a hard time trying to get the residents discount of $5, residents make sure you have some proof of where you live. Second the lift operator have a sick sense of humor by increasing the speed on the tow ropes cause my nieces and cousin to fall mid way up the slope, my cousin hurt her wrist on that fall. Third, their only lift is so slow I think it goes backwards. So if you want to take your family ski, I suggest going to Wisconsin, alpine valley isn't too far and a thousand times better. read more

Customer service is horrible. We signed up in December for both three week sessions of Snow Kids and they mistakenly put my daughter in the wrong time slot. Five weeks ago the supervisor I talked to over the phone during the week assured me this was straightened out. Every week this has been adventure in poor customer service. Today it was 25 minutes where the desk person was sure I was trying to come both days and was not going to let my daughter into the lesson. After I just offered to pay for today since we were there and could not come tomorrow I think she's really knew I was trying to pull something and was going to prove me a liar and thief. Bad bad bad. Eventually she found the notes stating we really were Saturday pm and not. Sunday pm. and my daughter joined her lesson ten minutes late. The lessons were ok and the instructor was nice so two stars. (1) Snowboard rentals. They rent substandard equipment. See picture I posted of snowboard with two different types of bindings, one that worked fine and the other one that was impossible to operate. This makes it a lot harder for beginners because they need to get one of their boots off the board to move around. (2) We encountered a teenager with snowboard and a lot of bad attitude towards the younger kids, saying things such as "can you not ruin the snow" as they went by. Like these kids could ruin artificial snow that has been packed into ice OR he's not out there using the snow too. I suppose this is a problem at any ski place, but there is no one here to talk to the guy and make him leave people alone. read more

I'm only reviewing their Sunday brunch, we were there on Mother's Day. I expected it to be busy & it was. Everything was... fine. But that is the problem if you're paying $27+ and 19% gratuity (automatically added). We were disappointed that there was no omelet station (they did have a carving station). No refills ever came for our coffee or soda. Twice when I went through the buffet they were out of bacon and sausage. The one time I went for juice no glasses were available. I took my nephew up for ice cream but after three tries with no one manning the station (apparently they were out of bowls) I gave up. It seemed expensive for the experience. read more

Snow tubing at Villa Olivia is fun ... if you can ever get on the slope! And let me start out by saying that every staff member we encountered - from the tube line, to the food line, to the slope line - was unbelievably friendly and helpful. All teenagers, but all doing a pretty good job. My 1-star review is not a reflection on the staff, at all. But on the actual process of getting tubes and the experience as a whole. When we arrived, we were told it would be an "hour wait for tubes. Maybe more, maybe less." We understood this to mean that they couldn't guarantee an hour, but that it would be close to that. We didn't think an hour was too bad, so decided to hang out (we had one excited 4 year old!) and grab lunch while we waited. The "ski lodge" is a joke. Frozen, microwave pizza that my son wouldn't touch with a five foot pole, pre-made burgers wrapped in tin foil, banquet tables and chairs with stains on them all pushed together so it's impossible to get around them. The bathrooms were gross. On the bright side, the price was right and lunch cost us less than $10. But we ended up waiting for 2 hours and 15 minutes, which is nowhere near the hour we were quoted! Not only that, but you have to wait in line once, to get your ticket for the wait. Then, when your number is finally called you have to get back into the same line and wait to pay. The same lady is working the wait list AND the register so the lines were long. Grab our tubes - we're finally off - to wait in another line. =( To be fair, the line for the hill moved reasonably well, but the top was a disorganized mess, with people piling up and nobody telling them what to do or where to go. If someone at the top had actually been directing traffic and making people stop texting and get in their tubes, the line would move a lot faster. Despite it all, we had a good time sledding. But $20/person is highway robbery. We were able to get about 10 slides in before our two hours were up. There's gotta be something better than Villa Olivia and we'll be looking for it. read more

Sunday Brunch! Had a private event held here in one of their smaller rooms. Service was impeccable -- our waitress was super friendly and on top of things. The room comfortably fit our party of 40. Booking the place was easy. No bad experiences with the staff! So many kind people working at the facility. Brunch was ok. It was not crowded at all. For a brunch service I would expect more food options. They had one soup for the day, a salad bar, a bowl of fruit for the whole facility. I was really craving fresh fruit and it was so disappointing to see a sad bowl of mushy fruit. Juices and waters were served in a free for all in plastic pitchers with plastic cups on a table. The open pitchers and lack of ice created warm juices. Yikes. I would work on getting a juice bar/coffee station set up in the brunch room so that we don't have to travel to the bar. Fresh smoothies or something! It just felt so cheap pouring a communal pitcher of orange juice out of a plastic pitcher. You also had to acquire your milk the same way. Mini boxes of cereal, plenty of meat options, not enough vegetarian options (okra though). Runny scrambled eggs, eggs benedict, one man operating a mini waffle iron. No pancakes. Hashbrowns, Basic French toast. A huge sweets table. Everyone in the party found something to eat (although our vegetarian guests struggled) but no one was ranting and raving. We didn't see gluten free options so if you are interested in that -- I would check before hand. Our party was booked for noon and we were under the impression that we would have the buffet available for more than just an hour an a half. It closed promptly at 1:30 and forced our guests to eat right away before actually socializing. That was kind of disappointing but we made it work. I will say that since they have an extensive sweets table and a little ice cream stand, if you are planning on throwing a party, skip ordering a cake. We brought a cake from an outside bakery no one wanted any because they had access to all the desserts beforehand. read more

K so the place is small and I absolutely hate rope tows but they did have one quad ski lift and its close to chicago so I'm giving it 3 stars. Price for lift tix are pretty high but we went after 4:30 so they were more reasonable at 29 for adults and 22 for kids. Would normally never even think of going there for skiing but it just snowed 4 inches and we already had something to do in the morning so couldn't drive far and still make it to any other ski resort. It was not crowded at all for the night skiing and it was perfect weather with fresh snow so my kids had a lot of fun and we closed out the park until 10. Food was inexpensive but very plain american junk food like pizza, hot dogs and hamburgers. All in all not bad...probably never go there again unless the perfect conditions were to present itself again read more

VO is awesome!! It totally beat my expectations for skiing/snowboarding so close to Chicago! If you don't have a lot of time to spend driving up to the bigger mountains like Devils Head in Wisconsin, definitely check this place out. I expected it to look like a bunny hill but it was pretty decent sized and had about 3 runs I was interested in. Definitely take advantage of its proximity, also try to go during the week when there are fewer people. No more driving to Wilmot for me. read more

THIS REVIEW IS ONLY FOR SNOW TUBING - I am sure that the rest is great as well, but the tubing is all we did. It was VERY easy, VERY convenient, and VERY fun - my kids LOVED it. The whole place is clean, well organized, and everyone that we interacted with was friendly and helpful. It was also VERY easy to get there, and VERY easy to park, which is always nice as well. The price for two hours ($20) was more than reasonable considering that it wasn't very crowded, and my kids must have gone up and down the hill three or four dozen times. Wait time supposedly 1.5 hrs and after talking to the front desk they informed us that they are short tubes... they should of told us that in beginning so we didn't waste time and money (eating the crappy food) offered at the ski cafe. We bought a gift certificate for my stepson on December 22, 2010. It is valid until December 22, 2012. We were unable to go last year and went this year in December 2011. Villa Olivia was sold to the Bartlett Park district on December 27, 2010. They will not honor any gift certificates purchased before December 27, 2010. So because we bought our $150 certificate five days early, they absolutely would not let us use it. We were told by the staff at the ski counter to call the park district and get the old owner's information and speak to them about getting our money back. I called and was told by the Bartlett Park District that they were not at liberty to give out the old owner's information and they could not help me. The woman I spoke to told me "Sorry but that is not our responsibility." No matter how loyal you are, do not expect any loyalty or compassion back from this resort. read more

We were married on 10/15/16 at this Venue and from the very beginning the staff was professional, caring and very enjoyable to work with. Courtney went out of her way to accommodate my requests and the FOOD was out of this world. The Chef came by to check on everything which I had never heard of and I thought that was very kind. After living just down the street from Villa Olivia for almost 4 years we finally decided to go and try their Sunday Brunch. I was very pleased as soon as I walked into the building. The restaurant is actually one of the banquet halls, each table was covered in white linen with a beautiful flower centerpiece. The whole hall is surrounded by ski slopes so you can see the people skiing, the snow around the building look just beautiful. Now on to the food. My husband and I paid about 40.00 dollars for our meal which included a buffet style brunch. There were multiple stations set up with food. One station had scrambled eggs, eggs Benedict, sausage, bacon, oatmeal cobbler, and French toast, the other half of the station, had veggies, mashed potatoes w/ gravy, tilapia, pasta and beef. One station was set up with all types of salads and toppings for salads and soup. Another station was set up for build your own omelets where you can pick your own toppings and they are made right there in front of you. The other two station were my favorite, there was a sweet table that look like it belonged at a wedding, it had pastries and cookies and mini bagels and the other station was an ice cream bar. The 40.00 dollars was for all you can eat from all of those stations and included coffee, juice and milk. The food was fantastic, the service was great and I cannot wait to go there again! read more

I went snow boarding here with a group of friends. I came early and took a private lesson so I wouldn't completely embarrass myself. The lesson was really good, and the guys who taught it definitely deserve 5 stars. Rentals people totally messed up the snow board I was using though, so that takes stars off. We visited Villa Olivia on Christmas Day for our family meal. Overall, the food is very good. However, I'm knocking off a few stars because I felt like they had scaled back a little on the typical balls-out buffet. I think there was less of a selection that previous years. Admittedly, I'm a vegetarian, but I remember being overwhelmed last year -with so many good choices I didn't know what to do with myself. This year, it seemed like they had a smaller selection. In all fairness, they changed the layout too. In years past, they had the buffet line in a separate room. This year, they moved it in to the main room and used that room as a regular dining room. Not sure if I liked the change or not. It seemed more fancy to have a special room for the buffet. I think it presented more nicely. Also, this year we had a table against the window which offered a great view, but I noticed it was a little hard to get to my seat. I had to really plan it out and maneuver around other people's seats. Made me feel a little "meh". We had the same waitress that we have every year and she is always very nice. My wife and I hosted our wedding at Villa Olivia in September 2014. Overall, our experience was very good; hence the 4-star review. Starting first with the positives: - Received numerous compliments from our guests on the food. Portions were large, prices were reasonable and, most importantly, the taste was good. - The venue itself is gorgeous. We hosted our event in the Emerald Room, and were particularly happy with the wooden, vaulted ceilings. - The bartender at our event was excellent. - Overall, the value is excellent. Compared to other venues we looked into, Villa Olivia offered significantly more for our dollar. The look and feel of our event was significantly more high end than the price we paid. - The planners/organizers (Started working with Teresa, who retired, and finished working with both Jessica and Courtney) were quick to respond to inquiries and always seemed intent on solving whatever problem we had in an expedient fashion. Unfortunately, the planners/organizers are also the only real con of this venue. After having an excellent experience with Teresa (genuinely the most helpful and accommodating organizers we could have imagined), she retired mid-way through our planning process and we began working with Courtney and Jessica. At first, the transition was entirely seamless. In the immediate lead-up to the wedding, though, things became a bit more difficult. The general root of all the issues seemed to be a basic lack of communication between Courtney and Jessica. Having met with one of them for our food tasting - which also served as a last-minute reminder of when head counts, seating charts, and ribbon (We selected a cake with a ribbon encircling it) were due to them. However, as our event approached, we received an email telling us our seating chart AND guest count was due TODAY (originally, we told they were due on separate days, and neither of them that day). We were able to resolve the situation, but it caused some un-needed scrambling on our part. The next issue was with the ribbon. We were never told we needed to bring the ribbon in early, and assumed it would be turned in the day before when we brought the rest of our decorations. My wife received a call about a week before the wedding, at work, asking if she could deliver the ribbon to Villa Olivia (40+ mins from her place of employment) TODAY because the bakery needed it. In the end, after a few stressful phone calls, we ended up over-nighting the ribbon to the bakery (at our expense). Again, the issue was easy to solve, but it was entirely unnecessary and would've been easily avoided by one planner talking to the other. Another issue was with the set-up on the day of the event. Twice during the lead-up to our wedding (once with Teresa, and once with one of the new planners) we were told that I could come in the morning of the wedding and do some final set-up on the room. I arrived with my best man around 10 a.m. (Wedding at 5;30) and nothing was set up whatsoever. When I inquired, I was told that no, they never tell people they can set up this early, the staff doesn't even start until 3. In the end, they pulled out the few items i needed from storage and allowed me to make the necessary final touches. But, again, clear communication prevents this issue. One of the biggest issues was with the "Final Invoice." A week or so before the wedding my wife received an email entitled "FINAL INVOICE," giving us our final balance for the event. So, we prepare to pay that amount (Which was exactly what we planned/expected it to be.) Then, a little later, we receive an email that says (paraphrasing) "Actually, we added wrong. You owe [about $200 more than we initially told you]." Not a big deal in the long run, but in a perfect world, Final Invoice should mean Final Invoice. Lastly, and this is more of an annoyance than a legitimate problem, was that on wedding day - after having paid the final sum - my wife was approached during the reception and told she needed to come sign some quick paperwork about our reception AND pay the final balance of ~5 dollars. Really? You approach the bride on wedding day for $5 after you've already screwed up our final invoice once? How about waiting until the next day and emailing us. It's $5. You have our credit card information. We're not going to escape a $5 bill. Anyway; despite the word count differential between my pros and cons, the overall experience with Villa Olivia was excellent and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a wonderful wedding experience. Just be sure to stay on top of the planners when final details come around. read more

I am a professional wedding DJ for a living and I was booked for a wedding at Villa Olivia. I was looking forward to this wedding all year long. This wedding was pretty special to me as it was a close friend of mine, and my brother was the Best Man. I usually arrive at my events about 2 hours early to set up, it usually only takes me about 45 minutes to set up, but just in case anything goes wrong, I have enough time to fix anything that may go array. I arrived at Villa Olivia to see that every room was booked. I was immediately greeted by the manager Allen with a nasty attitude. He stated that the wedding was going to be in the back room, however I could not go in because of the birthday party that was going on. The wedding started at 5pm, and he said I could not get into the room until 4pm to set up. I do understand that if there is a party that is booked, set up had to be delayed, however there was NO need for this manager to right away give me attitude and to mock me. Hey, everyone has a bad day once in a while, but there was no need for how he treated me. I asked Allen if there was any way that I could unload my equipment somewhere. I know that they have work to do, as I do have work to do myself. That's when he walked away mocking me say.... "oh she has work to do, she's got to set up." That was VERY unprofessional, and VERY uncalled for. He was acting like a 9 year old child. There was another party that could hear what was being said. I did yell back to Allen and said there was no need to talk to me like he did. So I sat at the bar and waited. Finally Allen said I was allowed me to bring my equipment into the room. As I finished bringing my equipment into the room, I was greeted by another man that stated that I was not allowed to bring anything else in the room because they had to clean the room up. So I said fine. I was extremely upset at this point. SO again I sat back at the bar. So while they are cleaning, I decided to go set up anyways seeing that I was to DJ the ceremony and reception. Again, I was there to work also. Wedding ceremony and reception went well from my stand point. Until the end of the night arrived. As the party came to an end, I played my last song of the night, and was finished by the time the venue agree upon which was promptly at 11:30pm. I immediately start to break my equipment down. At approximately 11:45, a man by the name of Curt told my husband and I that we needed to hurry up and get out, as he has had a long day. Well Curt, so did we. At record time, I was able to break down all of my equipment, speakers, uplighting, mics, controller, and have it all packed in my car by midnight. Which midnight was the last shuttle, so there were still people from the wedding inside of the venue. A 30 minute breakdown is a great time for me, but apparently Curt was not happy with my speed. If I did not have my husband there to assist me, my breakdown time would take a lot longer. Allen, Curt and Sheri were all completely unprofessional, and rude. This wedding was for a friend of mine, and the staff here was absolutely ridiculous, and completely ruined my day. Besides a wonderful server named Daniele. She was absolutely amazing. That girl deserves to have Allen's management position and should get one hell of a raise! She not only was compassionate but a great people person to say the least. The sad part about this whole situation is that I have DJ'ed at this venue before and I had nothing but kind things to say. But now I will not rest until I make sure that anyone that plans on booking reads this review. Also any professionals that may have a gig here in the future to watch themselves. I will make sure that this review will be posted on every social media outlet. Never will I ever recommend this place to anyone. I have never been treated like that in my entire life. TERRIBLE service, zero manors, management does an awful job at accommodating people. I was here many years ago and it was great. Now, not at all since the Bartlett Park District came in. Sure, it looks nicer with the updates. But there is zero respect for guests. Not going back, I wouldn't tell my worst enemy to go here. read more

Worst experience. Greens and tee box in horrific conditions. We were on pace to finish 18 holes in 6 hours. Most holes, there were 4 groups waiting to play. Went to get a rain check for the back 9 so we can come back when it was more reasonable. Their "GOLF AND SKI OPERATIONS MANAGER", J. Poblocki, hinted that I was lying. I offered to drive out to talk to the people that were playing ahead of us (who were also upset). The customer service here is no joke. They need to go out of business. read more

Hosted Bridal shower at Villa Olivia. Lisa made the planning stress free. I received many compliments about the room, the view and the food. The servers and bartender were pleasant, efficient and attentive. Worked well with dietary restrictions and followed through. Plenty of parking. read more

Decided to take advantage of the snow that hit Chicago this past Friday. All in all decent. LOTS of boarders and skiiers are in the minority. But everyone got along on the hills. Guys inside the rental area were fab. So laid back and helpful. Change machine wasn't working and they helped me out. Went on a Saturday evening, so rate is cheaper. No problems getting on tow ropes or chair. Though it is smaller to Wisconsin counterparts and doesn't have lots of runs, its really close by to Chicago. That makes it attractive. Easy parking. I would go back. Coupons would be more of an encouragement for me. read more
