Considering my current passion for ceviche, my daughter took me to Village Peru for lunch. The restaurant is one of a handful of very cool places to eat in Joesler Village on River just west of Campbell. Many of the restaurants have patio dining, but we sat indoors, out of the sun. Villa Peru is long and skinny, with one row of tables the length of the space, and the kitchen on the right. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Our server brought menus for both food and adult beverages and a bowl of munchies: plantain chips, something light and crunchy (a bean? a nut?) and salsa verde. She was friendly and helpful, explaining and guiding. The cocktail menu was enticing and we both had Pismo sours; delicious - and potent (at least for me, as I'm a liquor lightweight). We perused the extensive menu with many options labeled gluten free, and we shared the Papa Rellena starter, potato croquettes stuffed with beef picadillo, salsa criolla, aji amarillo sauce. I'm already thinking how to make them at home - they were so good. For my entree, I chose the Villa Peru Ceviche, with shrimp, crispy calamari, fresh fish chunks, choclo, and sweet potatoes, in a deliciously spicy and citrusy sauce. My lovely dining partner had the Causa Acevichada, whipped potato topped with fresh Mahi-Mahi ceviche, leche de tigre rocoto sauce, avocado, and fresh red onion. Too full to finish, we declined the offer of dessert and our server beautifully boxed our leftovers. This was a delightful Mother's Day lunch with my more-than-delightful daughter! read more

Train your staff better on customer service! We did a walk-in last night and the front host said that you all didn't have any available seats if we didn't have a reservation and the next reservation would be at 6:30pm. We came in at 5pm, but she said we can sit at the bar area and showed us back and told us there were no seats, there was a table that just needed to be cleared, so we decided to go next door to Sullivans to have dinner and spent our money there. I decided to check your reservations on OpenTable while we were having dinner next door, since your dining room was empty. It was untrue that you didn't have reservations until 6:30pm. I even made a reservation at 5:30pm to see if I would get a text confirmation about my reservation, but I did not! What an unprofessional establishment! read more

Villa Peru has recently doubled in size, and the renovations are truly excellent. We've dined here about half a dozen times over the past few years and were excited to return for the first time since the expansion. The new giant front door makes a striking first impression, and we were warmly greeted by the maitre d'. As a party of two, we appreciated being seated at a spacious table for four--always a nice touch that makes the experience feel less cramped. We were seated promptly at our 5:30 PM Saturday reservation. Our waiter arrived quickly--perhaps too quickly. While efficiency is generally appreciated, the service felt a bit rushed. As retirees who like to dine early when restaurants are quieter, we usually look forward to a relaxed pace. We overheard another table telling the same waiter, "We sat down 5 seconds ago. Give us a few minutes to order our drinks," which echoed our own feeling. We ordered drinks and a shared salad to start. Almost immediately after our first sip, the salad arrived, and we were asked for our entrée order. It all felt too fast. Our entrées arrived just five minutes into our salad, and the whole experience--from seating to finishing our meal--wrapped up in about 30 minutes. While the food remains very good and the atmosphere is much improved, the rushed pacing didn't match the upscale pricing (with entrées in the \$40+ range). A slower, more attentive dining rhythm would better suit the elevated environment they've worked hard to create. read more

If you like Ceviche, then Villa Peru is a great place to go! We ordered a variety of ceviche off the menu such as the Ceviche Carretillero and it was delicious! We loved having a variety of different fish and the crispy calamari added a perfect textural difference to the dish! We also ordered another ceviche dish that was delicious, but I can't remember the name. The paella was delicious and we wish we ordered more! I also ordered a Maracuya Sour (Pisco Sour) and it was soo good. The foam on the top of the drink, the passionfruit flavor was delicious and it was perfectly sweet- just the way i like my drinks! I was very disappointed in this restaurant. We had NYE reservations and couldn't even get in the door because there were so many people waiting and there's no wait area. The hostess said they overbooked so we were seated in order of arrival and not on reservation time. Once we finally got a table the service was fine. For starters we got the octopus and ceviche. They brought an octopus leg on a plate with nothing else so we had to ask where the rest of the dish was. The ceviche was just ok. For entrees we had the wagyu beef and lobster tail with pasta, neither were seasoned and the lobster was overcooked. They were out of one of the desserts. Per our server most of the desserts are not made in house. I had the molten chocolate cake and could tell it was not homemade, and the server admitted it wasn't. For $115 a person this meal was a total rip off. I expected much better for "fine dining". They charged a 20% service fee for a tip, which is fine, but they also charged a credit card fee on top of that with no warning. The owners were only mingling with patrons they knew and were not assisting the hostess or going to each table to check in. The violinist was on another level, he was amazing (5 stars for him). We came in for the Lobster fest. The restaurant was very nicely decorated. Our server was beyond friendly and helpful. Our appetizer a stuffed potato croquette was really good. The menu for something referred to as LOBSTERFEST was somewhat underwhelming. Many of the options were pastas with lobster added. We opted for the surf n turf for 2 : 2 lobster tails and a tomahawk steak. The lobster tails were meaty and very well cooked The tomahawk unfortunately was not quite what we hoped for. The steak had several veins of grizzle running through it making it very hard to chew. Medium rare requested but it was quite rare through most of it Price point of $130 would have been ok if steak was on point. read more

Had high expectations for a wonderful dinner with reservations for valentines evening..which didn't seem to matter as we had to wait at the bar. Once seated we were given a menu for a pre-set 3-course dinner with no option to order from the regular menu. Minimal choices,but ok,they're busy , it's a special day. Food was presentation was very nice, but that's where it ended. All was edible but just OK. No flavor,bland, under seasoned in every way. I have never seen a more disrespectful front staff in my life. The manager was beyond rude and my girlfriend disrespectful after our meal. They had three people quiz us about our IDs. If you are reading this, I'll send you my birth certificate. Kind of sad that a bartender doesn't know how to check IDs. Vibe was cool is guess. I hope this restaurant fails. read more

This place was amazing to eat. The food was delicious, the service was amazing, and the ambiance was great. The paella was amazing and every scoop had seafood in it. Now that was worth the price. The Malbec from Argentina was fantastic and bursting with flavor. The meat was very tender and juicy. We will be coming back. read more

I really wanted to love Villa Peru. We had a lovely evening there with friends last night, In spite of the food. Not because of it. The space and atmosphere is definitely cool, and that's where the good part of the review ends. I'm trying to wrap my head around all the positive reviews. I found the food to be largely bland and not the slightest bit exciting. Not to mention grossly overpriced. Oops, I just mentioned it. Our table of 6 tried many different appetizers, six entrees, including some from the lobster fest menu and three desserts, and we all shared bites. I can honestly say there is not one thing I had that I will want again. The menu is huge! And maybe that's part of the problem. Maybe if they narrowed down the offerings and arranged them on the menu in a way that made sense, it would be easier to hit on something outstanding. We booked our New Year's Eve dinner here. This also happens to be my birthday. The service was horrible, we started the meal out with an entire beer being dropped on my husband's lap. We asked for more napkins several times until I finally had to be stern about receiving them. The meals were nothing great, and were super expensive for a very very small portion. We ended the meal with dessert - my daughter's spoon was literally in the dessert covered in sauce - we had to wipe it off to even use it. To drink I had the awakening (carajlo) and it was delicious. For dinner I had the lomo saltado which was amazing and definitely is a must try. Ceviche is fresh and overall the food is interesting. There's not a lot of keto friendly options other than ceviche. I'd say the most disappointing part of the meal was the service. Our waiter did not provide good customer service and for a party of 5 we were charged an automatic gratuity of 20% which explains why the service was so poor (he didn't have to work for the tip). They charge a credit card fee that was not disclose before running our cards. We could have easily paid cash had we known. We left feeling like we were nickeled and dimed. Ambience is modern but even when we complained about being seated in the direct sunlight the waiter didn't offer to move us...when there were clearly lots of available seating. read more

There were 12 of us dining tonight at Villa Peru. It was our first time here. It is an absolutely beautiful restaurant. They have gorgeous wood tables that are stunning. We were seated in a small dining room and the immense slab of live wood the table was made from was spectacular. It was definitely one of the topics of conversation. Next was the menu which is extensive. Most of the items I couldn't pronounce, but the wait staff was very helpful with the pronunciations and explanations. There was quite a selection to choose from, steak, seafood, chicken and vegetarian. Everyone really enjoyed their meals from the huge tomahawk steak to the whole red snapper. Everything was well cooked and delicious. The wait staff was very good. They communicated well with our large and noisy group. They were very accommodating with everyone's requests. It is hard to find good service these days, but not at Villa Peru. It was top notch. This restaurant is definitely one of our top 10. First time eating Peruvian food and my taste buds thanked me. Savory, and unique favors. The twist on the old fashion (Renaissance) with Pisco (Peruvian brandy) was delightful and aromatic. We loved everything about this place. Our son's fiancée and him were visiting . She has never had Peruvian food. Loved the Inca Cola and the Chicha Morada . We ate all sorts of food with excellent service provided by Asiya our waitress. We spoke to the manager and he was also helping with the dining room which is pretty neat. As a former ex-pat assigned to Peru', I have missed everything about it, especially the food. We were so pleased to find a place that served authentic and delicious food. I loved the decor, which was typical of a Lima modern restaurant. I liked the presentation and cloth napkins. Dining. The service, though, needs to be polished. If I am going to indulge in a restaurant, I want to be treated as if my business is important. The staff did the minimum--and did it okay--but nothing more than say...Dennys. We were indicated to a table, but not seated. Our orders were taken in a perfunctory manner. The wait staff stayed behind the bar, not checking on drinks or even engaging in a bit of small talk. Four of us had the Lobster Night dinner at VP at 5pm on Aug. 29th. The restaurant is nicely appointed and very comfortable. 5pm was definitely the time to arrive as by 6pm the restaurant was filled and stayed that way until we left about 7:30pm. We had the Incan Lobster, Cioppino, Lobster Roll and Arroz con Mariscos w/ Lobster and all 4 dishes were delicious. Servers were courteous and welcoming. Wow! We don't live in Tucson and only get here now once a year, we use to live here. Villa Peru has really upped their game since just a year ago. The expansion has made this restaurant a more enjoyable experience. We didn't have to sit in a hallway. The food has always been delicious and tonight it just seemed so much better. I really wanted to like this place, but I have mixed feelings about Villa Peru. The managers seem to be on the ball, however, the servers & hosts seem inexperienced; and the food was disappointing. I had a reservation. I was taken to the bar and told that my table would be ready in 10 minutes. I had to ask the bartender for a cocktail menu, and when I asked him for a food menu, he told me he didn't have one and would have to find one. There were two gentlemen circulating who gave off manager/ owner vibes, and they were kind enough to check on me a couple of times. After 15 minutes, I asked the hostess when my table would be ready, and she said I was next. Despite her unconvincing promise, I asked the bartender for a menu (again), and this time he produced the menu. I ordered the arroz chaufa at the bar, and once the food arrived, and I had taken two bites, the hostess came to inform me that my table was ready (40 minutes after my reservation time). The presentation of the rice was beautiful & creative, however the rice was SUPER salty. So much so that I couldn't eat it. When I asked for the check and left more than 90% of the rice behind, the bartender didn't even ask if I wanted to wrap it up & take it with me or there was anything wrong with the meal. Overall, the ambiance was nice, although it's a very small restaurant with an odd configuration. There was a guy playing the sax along to some pre recorded tracks the night I was there. He was pretty good. I love Peruvian food, but I don't think I would return here again. The managers / owners seem really cool, however the staff could benefit from some staff development. Great meal, great time, I visited the restaurant with 3 friends on Sunday, 2-23-25. As with my previous 2 visits everything was good but this time, even better. Ambiance: On arrival you can not avoid focus on the beautiful décor. This was my first visit since renovations were completed 5 months ago. The space must have tripled in size. It is gorgeous! That giant glass entry door (on the River Rd entrance). The full cuts of wood on the walls and on the tables. The comfortable chairs. The casual elegance was very impressive. Full bar to rear. Food prep is on display through the large glassed in kitchen. Service: Our server Jessy was excellent. He was attentive without putting pressure. He is knowledgeable about the foods and also helpful with the wine. Thank you, Jessy! Food (which is most important) : Delicious! 3 out of 4 of us chose the Sea bass entrée, served with a very flavorful Quinoa Choclo w 2 scallops on the side. Good comments from all. A tapas plate of scallops could be offered as an appetizer. The other meal was a shredded chicken w Aji Amarillo sauce which every one tasted and enjoyed. Definitely worth ordering. I look forward to a return visit. There are many Ceviche choices with great reviews. I will try one next time. I stopped to thank the Chef in person before leaving. Thanks again! We had Saturday afternoon reservations for my Birthday. The restaurant has a very cool vibe and is clean, open, and modern. The waitress told us they were short staffed--we didn't mind--as we were in no hurry and wanted to have a leisurely Peruvian style meal. I hate European dining in the evening because i don't like to eat late, but I love to do this in the afternoon. For starters we got the Ceviche Carretrillo, it was delicious. It did have choclo in it, I don't eat corn but my husband liked that a lot. We also got the yuca (yuquitas Doradas)--this was absolutely delicious and filling. We then split the Arroz con Mariscos (Peruvian Paella),. Everything was delicious. I had a Peruvian mule without the sugar--this will be my signature drink at home, I have already gone out to buy Pisco. I have one small complaint; and I notice this a lot when I go to restaurants because i have a sensitive sniffer. It would be best to refrain from wearing perfume when serving food. This detail did not matter, as everything was explained in way to provide the best dining experience. From the pre dinner drinks and appetizer, to our entrees and wine, everything was served timely and beautifully presented. So, I opted for take out, because it's a little too snug for indoor dining for my comfort level. I placed my order online on a Saturday evening for a 6:30pm pick up. When I arrived to pick up, the order had not been started. According to the hostess, they stop accepting online orders after 6pm. Two issues with this: 1. I placed the order at 5:45ish pm 2. It is not stated anywhere on their website that they stop taking online orders at 6pm. In fact, they should not only state that somewhere but also turn online ordering off. That's honestly really bad for business. Additionally, the hostess said it would be 15 minutes, which ended up being closer to 40 minutes. The place was packed. I'm torn about this rating. The food was simple and uniquely flavored. I ordered the half chicken, quinoa salad and the salpicon de pollo. The chicken was on the salty side for my taste. I'm sticking to a three because I know it's been rough for businesses to get back on their feet with the re-opening, but I will likely not return for now. read more

My husband and I went to Peru last July and when his parents came to visit Tucson, we wanted to share with them some of the dishes we had while in Peru. We got a pitcher of chicha morada which is made from purple corn, fruit juices, lime and cinnamon. It was a refreshing accompaniment to dinner. We ordered the ceviche mixto clasico, arroz con mariscos and aji gallina. For dessert, we got flan and piccarones. Everything tasted like what we had in Peru. We'll be back for more! read more

This is one of the most romantic restaurants I've been to in Tucson. The lighting, the live music, and the ambiance is so intimate. Our server was fantastic and really knew how to read a table. My partner and I wanting a date night to just talk and enjoy each other's company. He was attentive but not too attentive. The food was immaculate. We shared the tigers milk ceviche. Here on business and I can't pass up a Peruvian place for dinner. I was here on a Wednesday. The place was not too busy. I sat at the bar and was taking to Charles the bar tender. Great guy. We had a good conversation. He gave me some recommendations. I ordered the 1/2 Chicken, rice and a side of beans. I got a few different sauces, ranging from mild to spicy. I even mixed some of them together. When the dinner arrived, it looked awesome. The presentation was very nicely done. I started eating quickly so I didn't take any pictures, but trust me, this was allot of chicken. The rice and white beans were good. The chicken was excellent. Full of flavor and tasted really good. I was nice and full when Charles asked about dessert. I settled on the doughnuts. While eating, I got to meet the man. Owner, papa Walter. Awesome man. We talked for a little bit then he had to get back to work making more good food. This place has been here for 7 years and I know they will be here for many more years. If you're in this area, you must try this place. It will be worth the trip. Nice for a date, special occasion or just plain dinner. You will love it. read more
