We had a great steak starter to share and my wife had aji de gallina and I had Lomo Saltado. Both were excellent but the steak starter was a little salty. This was my second visit in the past month, and while I was pleased with the service, food, and ambiance overall, there were several issues each time. One of my guests ordered the Peruvian paella and was disappointed to find that, despite the menu listing octopus, none was included. When we brought this to the attention of the staff and owner, they did bring out a separate bowl of octopus, which we appreciated. My wife was unhappy with her Lomo Saltado during this visit noting that it was too salty and served at a lukewarm temperature. The ceviche was just okay, and the Pisco Sour was also average. My guests were happy with the Aji de Gallina and I was pleased with my dish, arroz con pato. Considering the higher price point, I would expect better consistency and higher quality across the dishes. Additionally, they had run out of both Pollo a la Brasa and Picarones. It took about 20 minutes for them to inform us that the Picarones were unavailable. They had also run out of Negra Modelo, although they did obtain more later. This gesture was appreciated. I came back to Villa Peru yesterday, on a Sunday evening. I had made a reservation for outside and was able to switch it to inside when I arrived, as there was plenty of seating available. I was reminded of the beautifully decorated interior as we were taken to our seat in the back of the restaurant. Both the host and our server were very friendly and helpful. My brother order the Chilean Sea Bass and I ordered the Tacu Tacu. The food does take some time to come out, but I would believe this is because they are making a lot of it to order. The presentation of the food is always very nice. My dish was tasty, but I do wish there was more beans, especially for it being a vegetarian dish. My brother enjoyed his meal as well, though we did find the sea bass to be overcooked, as he had to use a knife to eat it. I really want to like Villa Peru because I love the option of having Peruvian food around. However, with the prices of the food and only finding my experiences okay, I do not believe I will return for now. read more

Went to Villa Peru during the Lobster Festival. When you first pull up they have plenty of parking in a shopping strip next to several other restaurants. They have bar seating, indoor tables, a large private party room, and outdoor patio seating. I have to give this restaurant 2 stars primarily for the food and service. Overall, the prices were high and the food/service was just average. The server never once asked about drink refills. The lobster roll did not actually include much lobster and the molten lava cake dessert was disappointing. There was no molten chocolate whatsoever and it more like a microwave chocolate sponge cake. Pisco sour is normally one of the my favorite cocktails and even that was mediocre. Lastly, the entree dinnerware was chipped as pictured, which is a safety concern. read more

I came here for dinner in April and then again last night. In April, I tried the Tequeños de Queso--tasty, but a bit too fried for me, so I could only eat one. I believe we ordered the Causa Acevichada and loved it. The sea bass was good, and the Churrasco a lo Pobre cooked medium rare was really flavorful. The sangria, unfortunately, was not good. I also tried the pisco sour flight and requested no ginger, so they substituted the Ambassador. The Ambassador was just okay--still pretty bitter. I really enjoyed the strawberry flavor, and the rosemary was pretty good. The spicy one was tasty but very spicy. Last night, I ordered the sea bass again, but it was very fishy this time. Thankfully, they kindly substituted it for the Tacu Tacu. The rice in that dish was a bit salty, but overall still enjoyable. The beef in both the Tacu Tacu and the Lomo Saltado was well done--next time I'll ask if they can cook it medium rare. The Tiradito ceviche was really good, and I loved the strawberry pisco again. The rosemary was decent, and I also really liked the cabernet we ordered--I believe it may have been from Argentina. read more

They had so many different ones and it's Oyster Fest, so they had ceviche with oysters. The place is really cool with the bar in the back. A heads up, the front door is very large. During Ceviche Festival, which occurs one week a month, they have a large variety of ceviche. With the trio you get to pick three kinds.. I really enjoyed all of ours which were recommended by our amazing bartender and server Asia. I also thought my braised lamb shank was next level. The sauce was almost like a mole , but different . It had a very unique and delightful flavor profile. The only reason I did not give five stars was because the fish dish that we had was very dry and lacked flavor or spice. This was my first time in the new expanded space. It's really lovely, but on a Saturday night just before a holiday, also very loud. The service wasn't quite as good as usual, but I'd chalk that up to being there at the same time as two 12-15 person parties vs anything more serious. Cocktails were great as always. I didn't have an appetizer this time, but my dining companion was very impressed with the Tequenos de Queso. I was about to order ceviche for dinner, when a server brought a gorgeous rice dish topped with seafood to a nearby table. I asked about it- while in the menu it's described as a Chinese style fried rice, it was really more of a paella. It didn't disappoint as my entree- it was amazing, and the seafood very tender. We have dined at Villa Peru once a year for several years and were again marveling at the expanded space and decor. But the food quality has declined and service was indifferent. (Food quality is most important, right? But attentive service completes the experience.) For starters, the calamari appetizer contained very fishy pieces mixed with normal pieces. We've never experienced that in the past. When entrees arrived, my Snapper dish was certainly dramatic in appearance, but my first bite had an ammonia smell. With my second bite, the smell was more pronounced so I stopped right there and asked to order something else. (Ammonia smell = fish that's begun to spoil.) The server seemed surprised and apologized. My replacement order was delivered fairly quickly but was a "just-OK" choice -- heavy turmeric flavor to the sauce with not much else going on. What surprised us was that either (A) our server didn't report the spoiling fish to the restaurant owner, who was circulating through the dining areas, or (B) the owner was informed but didn't care enough to stop by and inquire. Given all the disappointments plus the climbing entree prices, we will not be recommending or dining at this restaurant in the future. read more

Trio of ceviche: we tried the villa peru with seafood, one with conchas (clams), and another seafood ceviche for the ceviche festival. All unique flavors. Papa rellena - crispy appetizer with the sauce. Wagyu Salgado - tender wagyu. Peruvian tomahawk - excellent flavors and perfect for sharing. While in Tucson, we stopped by Villa Peru for dinner on a Sunday evening. Recommended by a friend of mine, I will never say no to a Peruvian restaurant. Located in a busy shopping center, we were able to find a parking spot. Ambiance (4.5/5): Compared to most Peruvian restaurants I have been to, Villa Peru is on the fancier side. They have a patio outside but we were seated in their beautiful interior. They have an open kitchen so you can see the staff doing their thing. Nice experience all-around. Service (4/5): Our waiter did a good job taking care of us throughout the evening (we had a group of four). No complaints. Drinks (2/5): This was the only real portion of my experience here which was a problem. I ordered a chicha morada, which is the classic Peruvian purple juice. It was served in a small glass with ice in it and you don't get free refills. The type of glass which would have been appropriate for a child. Come on! Food (4/5): I had the Peruvian half-chicken with potato wedges. Peruvian roasted chicken is always great as its succulent and the blend of spices are delicious. Good portion size and you get a couple of different sauces. Always nice for a saucy guy like me. I also tried a bit of the lomo saltado and the chaufa rice. The lomo is perhaps the most popular Peruvian dish. The meat wasn't as tender as I would have liked. The chaufa rice, on the other hand, with shrimp, was my favorite dish of the evening. If you've never tried Peruvian food before, change that ASAP. While I took a potty break, there was an article in the bathroom that said that this restaurant was rated one of the best restaurants in the country for ceviche. Looks like I missed out! I have visited several times and every time I have been impressed with the food, service, and ambiance. The restaurant has beautiful furnishing using natural woods and materials. This gives it a modern rustic feel. It is very clean, this last time we went they were renovating (expanding next door) and the place was still impeccably clean. The food is consistently high quality, with clean flavors, and excellent preparation. This last time we had some shrimp and steak dishes, the shrimp was perfectly cooked as was the steak. You could taste the shrimp and steak along with the seasoning nothing overpowering anything else. Nothing was heavily salted, everything had a great balance with simple precise flavors. We also had lamb with a beautiful Peruvian sauce, that again brought out the flavor of the lamb but did not overpower it. For desert we had an amazing light but rich cheesecake and the Peruvian version of flan, both were perfect ends to our meal. Every dish has impressed us, but so has the service. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. They work through the menu not just the highlights but trying to help you pick dishes that you would most enjoy. There recommendations have never missed for us. The prices are on the higher end, but the quality of the product and service is well worth it. On both visits, the service was top notch...friendly servers, an owner who checked in with us, water glasses filled, etc. The food also was delicious! My son enjoyed his ceviche and chicha morada, and my partner enjoyed his Arroz Chaufa (the bite I took was very tasty). I ordered the Causa de Camarones con Palta, which was a perfect portion of mashed potato, avocado, and shrimp, with a spicy pepper sauce. We also ordered desserts, which were tasty and beautifully presented. The ambiance inside Villa Peru is upscale, with a modern feel. As others have noted, the space is tight. Very disappointed. I went for the "Ceviche Festival" they had for 3 days (today was the last day). I ordered the $42 Trio de Ceviche. I asked the server which ceviche's were available for the festival but not in the original menu. Come to find out, 2 of the 3 I ordered were not available??? Ok, I decided to order some shrimp ceviches and from the look of the amount it is extremely overpriced. I've had their fried calamari before and this time it tasted like those frozen boxed foods. Considering my current passion for ceviche, my daughter took me to Village Peru for lunch. The restaurant is one of a handful of very cool places to eat in Joesler Village on River just west of Campbell. Many of the restaurants have patio dining, but we sat indoors, out of the sun. Villa Peru is long and skinny, with one row of tables the length of the space, and the kitchen on the right. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Our server brought menus for both food and adult beverages and a bowl of munchies: plantain chips, something light and crunchy (a bean? a nut?) and salsa verde. She was friendly and helpful, explaining and guiding. The cocktail menu was enticing and we both had Pismo sours; delicious - and potent (at least for me, as I'm a liquor lightweight). We perused the extensive menu with many options labeled gluten free, and we shared the Papa Rellena starter, potato croquettes stuffed with beef picadillo, salsa criolla, aji amarillo sauce. I'm already thinking how to make them at home - they were so good. For my entree, I chose the Villa Peru Ceviche, with shrimp, crispy calamari, fresh fish chunks, choclo, and sweet potatoes, in a deliciously spicy and citrusy sauce. My lovely dining partner had the Causa Acevichada, whipped potato topped with fresh Mahi-Mahi ceviche, leche de tigre rocoto sauce, avocado, and fresh red onion. Too full to finish, we declined the offer of dessert and our server beautifully boxed our leftovers. This was a delightful Mother's Day lunch with my more-than-delightful daughter! read more

We are early riser people so we eat dinner pretty early since we go to bed early and both times we've eaten here near opening so service has always been so quick and top notch. Villa Peru has recently doubled in size, and the renovations are truly excellent. We've dined here about half a dozen times over the past few years and were excited to return for the first time since the expansion. The new giant front door makes a striking first impression, and we were warmly greeted by the maitre d'. As a party of two, we appreciated being seated at a spacious table for four--always a nice touch that makes the experience feel less cramped. We were seated promptly at our 5:30 PM Saturday reservation. Our waiter arrived quickly--perhaps too quickly. While efficiency is generally appreciated, the service felt a bit rushed. As retirees who like to dine early when restaurants are quieter, we usually look forward to a relaxed pace. We overheard another table telling the same waiter, "We sat down 5 seconds ago. Give us a few minutes to order our drinks," which echoed our own feeling. We ordered drinks and a shared salad to start. Almost immediately after our first sip, the salad arrived, and we were asked for our entrée order. It all felt too fast. Our entrées arrived just five minutes into our salad, and the whole experience--from seating to finishing our meal--wrapped up in about 30 minutes. While the food remains very good and the atmosphere is much improved, the rushed pacing didn't match the upscale pricing (with entrées in the \$40+ range). A slower, more attentive dining rhythm would better suit the elevated environment they've worked hard to create. read more
