On Mother's Day, over a hundred miles from home, and hungry, we found this place on Yelp. We were glad we did! The onion rings and fried mushrooms appeared to be fresh, not frozen and were they ever good! The best I've had in ages. Each of us ordered personal pan pizzas on the recommendation of our server. For three people they were about the same cost as one larger pizza, and we each got what we wanted. The crust and sauce were very good, we loved the cornmeal on the bottom and no need to order extra cheese. They couldn't have fit any more on them! When ordering I asked if the mushrooms were canned or fresh. The server said "canned," but after noticing my reaction, good naturedly offered to use fresh. They have them for making the fried mushrooms, I supposed. Not kidding, the place is more of a takeout restaurant than eat-in, but there is a small dining room and one bathroom. Divey, but clean. Hole-in-the-wall carryout place. Price is very good. The building is not in good shape but that doesn't mean the food is. So they have good tasting pizza, generous cheese, and the sauce is on the sweet side. They actually make a ditch in the pizza to define the 2 halves if you split the toppings. I grew up eating villa pizza as a child, when the 2 brothers owned the place. Moved out of state 20 yrs ago, but still frequent the area to see family. Every time I return to villa the pizza and Italian beef sandwiches are consistently delicious. Prices are excellent, portions are huge, and it's my fav in NW Indiana. Nothing fancy, always do takeout, but everything is just as it should be. Used to have the best pizza bread around, but haven't tried that in years. I live in an area where pizza is paper thin and provel cheese has replaced mozzarella, ick to both. So I have a deep appreciation for villa's crust and the use of mozzarella, which is the way pizza should be made. My dad grew up on Villa. I can remember having it growing up just like he did-- it's an institution here in the region and I love introducing my non-region friends to the beauty of NWI pizza. The fried mushrooms are also INCREDIBLE and are a must- have. In fact, Villa is one of the few place that makes fried mushrooms well (I didn't know that was a delicacy but man they are). I was raised on Villa. It's located in a dive building on Broad St. In front is the takeout counter with the large ovens behind it, along with stations to make the pies. In the back is the restaurant area. Plastic checkered table cloths and wood panels if memory serves. Since this was virtually the only pizza I knew, I thought all pizza was similar. Let me tell you, now that I've gotten around a bit, I can safely say that Villa's is one of a kind. First, the square cut. Lots of joints have this as an option, but with Villa, it's standard. Second, cornmeal on the bottom. I don't see that anywhere. Lastly, the flavor. Greasy and tasty. Also try one of their Italian Beef sandwiches. They are a bit more common to the region, but very good. Highly recommend. Worth going out of your way to eat here. read more

This is a really nice place to go. The portions are gracious and the appetizers were all under $4. We got the Jalepeno Poppers and Fried Mushrooms. The poppers were very flavorful and came with your choice of cream cheese or nacho cheese and they weren't too spicy. I really appreciated the size of the mushrooms and the batter on just about everything was amazing. They really know how to balance their seasonings. The "Everything Pizza" had a ton of cheese and the toppings are very chunky. It was challenging to eat but for the price and portion, definitely worth it. The fries were light and crispy.
