We went to Villa Romana on July 5th - We had a party of 4 and the food was outstanding, the service was good! When we got there, there was a guy sitting at the bar drinking-after a lovely meal, the man who was drinking at the bar INSULTED my friend and the whole night ended terribly. The only reason this gets a 4 is because it's a bit too dark in here. However the food did not disappoint. The fries.. are so good. The chicken picatta was a bit too lemony however the pasta and desserts were amazing. The staff was so nice and attentive. Amazing Romanian Cuisine! My boyfriend is Romanian so we had to check this place out. The mamaliga was so good! It reminded me of my mom's cornmeal rolls she used to make for breakfast. My favorite dish was the sarmalute the minced meat inside the cabbage leaves reminded me of canelones but even better because this is gluten free! The flavors were out of this world! Portions are pretty big so plan on sharing or take home for great next day lunch. Service was great. The owner can by to check on us twice. The finale was literally the cherry on top with the papanasi - a traditional fried old fashion donut with farmer's cheese (much like a mascarpone cheese) sweet sour cream and sour cherry jam. The service was quick and efficient so we could get out in time for the theater. I must say it was early so they didn't have a lot of customer I actually went there because I read up that it was Hollywood restaurant month unfortunately it was too late for lunch and it was a Sunday and the dinner menu would've taken too long to eat. . What a wonderful place! Came with my family for a birthday (party of 14) and it may be our new celebration spot. The ambiance was nice and elegant, the food was fantastic and drinks (lunches martini special) was well balanced & well worth the price tag. There's not many places in Hollywood that pack this much of a punch. Our server Lily was attentive, patient and accommodating. Ambiance is romantic and classy (we don't need that's haha as it was my coworker) somewhat limited selections as this also has Romanian cuisine as well. I got the chicken parm ( I really craved spaghetti and meatballs not on menu except for kids) the sauce reminded me of Chef boyardee thick a weird red and little sweet. It was pretty slow at this time so I was able to be seated immediately - I chose the patio to people watch. The server and host were great and very attentive. I ordered a sangria (which would've tasted better in a wine glass), a Caesar salad, blackened mahi with mashed potatoes and tiramisu for dessert. What a ridiculous experience. The food was extremely mediocre. They forgot to make our appetizers, finally got them after 45 minutes. We them placed our entrees since no one came to our table for the whole 45 minutes, they informed us the food would take 20 to 30 minutes, 45 minutes later still no food. Finally get the food, not bad or good just whatever. Not a single point through the two and a half hours, it took us to get through a meal did the manager or anybody come over to apologize or attempt to make it right. We were seated outside, close to the entrance door, as we wanted some fresh air and wanted to enjoy the beautiful day. Despite a sign to the tune of "thank you for not smoking", 2 men at different tables were smoking cigarettes throughout the duration of our meal. It was very unpleasant. We went on a Tuesday night which was open mic night and several patrons enjoyed singing karaoke, which was fun to watch! Our server was very efficient but not necessarily friendly. I had the lemon drop martini and moscato, both were great. I then tried the siorba de burta, tasty with a strong garlicky flavor and tripe. My friend had the miteti with fries and I had the beef stew called dobrogeana with polenta. It was good but I wasn't a fan of the polenta with sprinkled cheese. I don't really go all that often, but every time I go to Hollywood looking for "the Romanian food restaurant" it either has a new name, or has moved to a new location, or both. Be it when it was the Transylvania, or the Europa, or the Villa Romana now, they also went from something with a vibe of more of a social club to a fancy restaurant where you actually have to ask your server for the Romanian menu because otherwise they only bring you the Italian food menu. Let me be clear: I don't know if this is the same restaurant evolving, or if it's only that one replaces the previous one, but the result is the same: the Romanian menu has suffered both in prominence and in quality. There are thousands of Italian restaurants around, so I have not tried any Italian dishes myself in Villa Romana. One thing I have consistently ordered through the years (and through different versions of the "Romanian restaurant") are the ciorba de burta (tripe soup), and the mititei (sort of sausages made with varied ground meats). The ciorba de burta was ok, I feel it was leaning on the bland side, but it's fine enough, and it came served with a pepper on the side, so you can work some hotness in it. The mititei were a bit salty for my taste, but the flavor and consistency was very good... on the other side, the snitel de pui (chicken schnitzel or breaded chicken) needed a bit of salt (which I prefer because then I can raise to taste). again, juiciness/consistency and flavor were very good. What I'd like to know why the "sides" consist only of "fries". There used to be things like polenta and mashed potatoes in earlier iterations of the "Romanian food restaurant". What is really top notch is the service, which is friendly, helpful and fast. We ate outside, so I can't really speak much about the dine-in experience. But the outside is nice, except for the fact that it is a very noisy street. read more

Villa Romana on Hollywood Blvd in Hollywood. Initial reaction was nice - the dining room and bar are nicely designed and inviting, staff attentive but not pushy, music was appropriate and mellow. The Menu is interesting with a mostly Italian skew and a side-bar of Romanian fare. It appears that Romanians enjoy a fair amount of French Fries and most entrees are served with them. I ordered the Tripe soup. Our waitress asked if I have ever had it before because it is unique. And it was unique, in a creamy base with a good but not too strong taste of tripe. Came with a side of vinegar, garlic and sour cream. I tried them all but liked the soup best in its original form. For my entree I chose the Tochitura Dobrogeana - a pork stew with chunks of pork, smoked sausage, bell peppers and garlic in a red sauce served with polenta topped with shredded feta cheese and a fried egg. Interesting but nothing special. My wife chose the pappardelle with porcini and truffle. Very rich but tasty. Overall the meal was good but nothing to make me crave it. The real eye opener though was seeing multiple people inside the restaurant using E-Cigs. I thought that vaping/E-Cigs were illegal inside restaurants? No one seemed to react so I suspect it's a regular occurrence. Since it was early and there were only 4-5 tables occupied I guess that the management looks away. But, what is the policy when it is crowded with lots of people at the bar? Not to dwell too much on this but it really didn't sit well with my wife and I. My feeling is that if management ignores the laws in the front of the house then god knows what is happening in the kitchen. This was my 2nd visit to Villa Romana which was not as delicious as my first experience. Upon arrival no one was available to greet me and my friends, I had to go find the waitress in the back. She was very lovely and provided great recommendations. I started with the salmon carpaccio and asked for no onions and it came out with onions. I was to hungry to send it back so I picked out all of the very small onions to eventually enjoy it but it was a miss ;/ I had a shrimp pasta dish which was extremely bland with minimal flavor. My guest had the snapper which was deliciously flavorful but the side of mash potatoes was not edible. My daughter had the kid pasta which was also very bland and not flavorful. Another big minus is the massive construction going on in downtown Hollywood. Sorry to say I did not enjoy the $130 lunch spent here. read more

Great for events or dining with family and friends in a nice atmosphere. It has a patio for outdoor dining. Reasonably priced , very clean including bathrooms, professional staff and very attentive. We had the Romanian skinless sausage plate with fries and the sausages were grilled to perfection. They also offer a good variety of wines and beers from across Europe. Advice to owners: work on the ambiance music to sync with the restaurant theme, something Italian or Romanian or any European music will go well with the whole ambiance. Solid 4.5stars! So I was interested in trying some Romanian cuisine with a friend of mine and decided to check this place out. The inside area was very nice. Perfect for date nights. I went during the day time. Our server was super helpful with the menu and asked us if we had any questions about the menu. I tried the mititei for the first time and he suggested that I add mustard to it. Which to my amazement I enjoyed. The sausage was a little salty, but still delicious nonetheless. The burrata however was really good! That was gone in seconds along with the bread. I also ordered an amaretto sour here and it was decent. I would definitely try more dishes from this place because I am intrigued.
