Spending a day at the Frost Science Center, we walked to Pierogi One for lunch to avoid eating bad museum food. Pierogi One is a Polish restaurant just a four-minute walk from Frost. With indoor and outdoor seating, we opted for the AC inside. To feed three, we got the Polish hot dog, spicy beef pierogi, pickles, cucumber salad, and both soups. The borscht and zurek soups were very tasty! Everything else was too, but more on the average side. The soups, however, will keep you coming back. Service was a bit slow, but not too bad! read more

I defintely need to dine in next time I try Pierogi One as everything was kinda just mush when I ate it. The fries defintely weren't cooked long enough and I did order my pierogis pan fried but they were super soft I don't know if thats right. I got the cheese and potato one the flavor is good it was just not what I expected. I was expecting a little crispy edge when I bit in it but sadly disappointing. It's easy to see why Pierogi One garners such high points with customers. Great service and delicious food is a winning combo. We got in less than an hour from closing time, yet the waiter seated us with no problem. Their specialty, needless to say, is pierogi, in a whole lot of varieties. Savory, sweet, vegetarian, with different type of meat, you'll find something you like. Can't decide? Get a combo to try a little of everything. We tried the veg combo and my favorite is the mushroom. The spinach could be moister or creamier. We also love the schnitzel. After we ordered, we could soon hear the pounding sound from the kitchen as they make the chop thinner. If you're at the Frost museum and you need to get a bite to eat, but there's like a herd of kids from a charter bus that unloaded a bunch of summer camps at the doorstep of the museum, pop over to here (6 min walk) and they will take care of you! Have some Polish pierogi, type of dumpling that's oh so tasty. I got the six piece with a side and a drink and I was full. If you're on the hungry side of 30 though you might get the 12 piece. This was an impromptu top at this place after I used Google maps to look for local eateries whilst in the area. I was pleasantly surprised to see a Polish restaurant. I am always up for trying new food and experiences so this is why I came. Are you still living Munich Germany and had been to Poland a few times. It had been a while since I'd had Polish food so I came in and tried some German potato salad which didn't disappoint. It was exactly as it used to be in Bavaria. It also was the first time for me trying Pegoni. After advice from the friendly assistant I decided to have what he said was very traditional pegoni which had a filling of potato and cheese. We love this place! A solitary outstanding oasis of Polish cuisine in an otherwise unremarkable culinary destination. Parking is a bit of a bear. There is public parking available at 950 NE Second Ave. and you can occasionally find street parking on NE 11th St btw NE 1st and 2nd Avenues. Whatever you do, do NOT park in the lot on NE 11th unless of course you enjoy paying three to four times going parking rates!!! As far as the food goes it's Polish comfort food with a wide variety of Pierogi's to choose from Along with Kielbasa and various Schnitzels and really great Potato Pancakes (which my girlfriend orders every time we go) along with Borscht and German Potato Salad. The staff is friendly and polite though the arrangement of the seating area is out of line of sight with the front counter so sometimes it might take a minute for your waiter to come around back. Ok fine, I'll get the schnitzel then with potatoes. "We don't have potatoes, just fries." Ok, can I substitute with something healthier like cucumber salad which is cheaper on your menu? "No, you can't. You have to pay extra." I walked out, annoyed by the complications. The name of the restaurant game is to win over customers. Small, polish cafe that doesn't live up to the hype. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the pierogi that I tried necessarily but they were just alright. Spicy beef pierogi was just bland, unseasoned meat with a jalapeno on top and the pork one also bland meat. The sweet pierogi tasted awfully similar to the ones I tried from the frozen aisle at the Russian store so I suspect that the pierogi aren't actually freshly made. If you do decide to get them though get them pan fried not boiled, taste better that way. The service however was excellent. Everyone was nice and checked in with me. WOW WOW WOW! Believe me when I say, I'm a tough crowd when it comes to rating restaurants. I'm also honest and thorough and if there's anything I didn't like, I'll say it. Yes the pierogis are incredible. I tried the Pork & Bacon and the Shrimp. The shrimp was my favorite. My favorite dishes were the Schnitzel (it was cooked and breaded PERFECTLY) along with the side of potato salad (still dreaming about it) but the soup of the day (zurek i believe it was called) was something that truly impressed me right off the bat. Oh and their sausage is to die for! Clearly I'm having trouble picking a favorite while the ambiance of the place is quite simple and doesn't have much fancy decoration or over the top antics, when a restaurant's food speaks for itself, you don't need all of that extra stuff.
