If I was rating off the food alone, I'd give it a 3/5. The home fries in the Country Style Eggs could've been crispier and adding hot sauce definitely saved this a bit. The biscuit we got with it was homemade and so delicious. It was warm, buttery, and satisfying. The Patty Melt was a bit dry and desperately needed a sauce. I used ketchup and asked for pickles which helped. The rye bread was surprisingly not dry and grilled nicely with butter. It was definitely a heavy meal but we needed it after a long drive. I stopped here Saturday morning with my wife. The diner is very clean and has ample parking. It was not too busy and quiet inside. The sign said seat yourself so we sat at a table near the window. We were greeted by a friendly waitress and had hot coffee delivered promptly. My wife ordered the potato pancakes that were made with real potato (not mix). I ordered the country style eggs. Egg-cited to start the day sunny side up! Today's breakfast choice brought us to The Village Cafe in Arkport, NY. It's a quiet town in upstate New York, with a hustling and bustling restaurant that provides excellent service and delicious hearty food for both the locals and the tired travelers that pass through. Their breakfast menu consisted of items that you can find most anywhere, such as: Pancakes, Omelettes, Eggs Benedict, Oat Meal & Cereals, as-well-as Sausage Gravy over Biscuits. Today we ordered the Country Fried Steak, Corned beef Hash, and the Country Classic. I loved the country fried steak. Sometimes the steak is overcooked, or over-battered, or seasoned way too salty. The cooks at the Village Cafe definitely knew what they were doing... and my eggs were cooked to the perfect sunny-side consistency. The corned beef hash was tasty and cooked to my liking, but it definitely not made from scratch. Finally the country classic which was Scrambled eggs, mixed together with onions and home fries, and served with Toast - while it looked good, it had to be returned due to a mix up in the order. I will say that even through the order was messed up (multiple times), the waitresses were super kind and apologetic; and even offered to take care of the bill which was above an beyond in my book. Such a nice little restaurant. The place is very clean and nicely decorated. It's much bigger on the inside than it looks like on the outside, so don't let a full parking lot scare you. I had the eggs Benedict with home fries. The eggs Benedict was really good. Eggs were perfect and the sauce was nicely flavored. The home fries were not the best. They needed to be seasoned better and were under cooked. I'll give them a pass on those. Server was on top of everything and very friendly. I am eager to try them for lunch and dinner. read more

We've driven by many times at night in route to visit our sons at their colleges. We decided today was the day to try it out, since it was open. We walked in and we greeted and told to sit wherever we wanted. I like that because We sat where we felt comfortable. Someone came over and took our drink order. Those came out quickly and then someone took our food order. We got the Turkey club, a bacon cheeseburger and the Reuben. We practically inhaled our food. It was better than we expected. My wife and I stopped in for breakfast following a Dr. Appt. Neither of us had ever been here before but have heard nothing but good things. This place is a true treasure to the neighborhood. We drive from Rochester to experience this great diner!! So welcoming and just awesome, good food!! I usually get a patty melt that's more of a burger than "patty" (I'm not complaining!). My husband loves the pie and anything else they might be serving. Really, he's eaten almost everything. My father meets us from Wellsville and he'll get breakfast (all day). Morris, and John & Sarah's in Perry, were hoping for the same great food and friendly experience. Unfortunately it didn't happen. Instead of service with a smile, we got a rude young waitress. Dessert came out first, while we had to remind her of our soup orders after everything else was already out. The soup was OK, other than big pieces of hard, inedible bay leaves in it. The salad had iceberg lettuce and onion in it with store dressing, very forgettable. The sandwich we ordered was bland, was supposed to come toasted and with dressing, was lacking both. For $17 we had a triple decker turkey club with homemade Mac salad (delish!), an egg and olive sandwich with what we call "bucket slaw," and a cup of beef and barley soup. The highlight for me was the beef and barley-- the house soup, it was chunky, savory goodness. The sandwich portions were plentiful. We weren't expecting much from this little place, but they provided a perfectly good, satisfying lunch for cheap while we were on the road. Nice, clean bathrooms too! It's a diner, it's a cafe, the food seems to be mostly homemade and good. Service was fast and attentive. We stopped on a Friday afternoon after 1 p.m. and they were fairly busy. They had a specials board and we ordered the seafood bisque and the fish sandwich's from the board. Portions were good and the soup and sandwich were yummy. We would definitely go back again. I eagerly awaited the reopening of the Village Cafe, but unfortunately I won't be returning. The waitresses don't wear masks over their mouths and nose. The younger one was wearing under her chin. My health is apparently not a priority at the Village Cafe. I understand we are in a difficult time with Covid 19, but the simplest act of properly wearing a mask can't be followed, I'm sure they are cutting corners with other safety measures too. read more
