This review is long overdue. To start, having to walk past broken lighting and electrical the parking lot near the handicapped parking spot right up front should have tipped us off as to how the owner runs this place. The building itself is in disrepair, starting with the peeling paint and rotted wood on the deck. The floors inside are very soft and uneven so watch how you walk. The owner / hostess is living in some type of delusional world where she thinks she is running some type of high end 5 star restaurant !! She makes people wait at the door while she walks people to their table and explains how this is her place and tries her hand at being entertaining the whole while others are waiting to be seated. ( I know this because I am disabled and after standing there for 6 or 7 minutes with empty tables everywhere, I decided to sit down and had her tell me " it doesn't work like that around here and I would have to get up and get back in line and have her seat me " (TOLD HER THAT WAS NOT GOING TO EVER HAPPEN ) No one else is allowed to seat or cash anyone out so there is a nice little bottleneck of people standing around in the middle of the dining room right next to people at their tables and others trying to get to the soup /salad bar . Total chaos and bad decisions on both the customers part that decide to stay for this and the crazy owner who feels so good about herself that she needs to have her 8x10 glossy photo right next to the cash register !! I mean once I started paying attention to what was going on, it was quite comical. You think so highly of yourself that you feel your customers time is of no matter ? Not to mention, that they should be blessed to stand in line for no reason to have ONLY YOU seat them !!??? Those poor waitresses... you could tell they were embarrassed they were by how many times they apologized for not being able to cash them out and for having to wait for her when they could see her smiling and chatting away while they foolishly stood there. Now , about the food. No matter what the criticism, you will be told that it is award winning! Like we are too stupid to know when your ranch dressing is watered down or when you try the soup and there is nothing in the pot but a lot of broth and barely any meat or vegetables. And I swear that when I got a piece of the berry cake from the desserts cart home and opened the to go container it was 1/2 the size of the slices I saw there. I think that the only reason she is still in business is because THERE REALLY ISN'T ANYWHERE ELSE TO GO !! The food is great, the fish fry and the fried shrimp are crispy and tasty. The soup n salad bar are plentiful with a nice variety and are included with a dinner. You can't beat the price for the value you get. The service has always been great when I have been there and the new dining room is really nice. The prices are reasonable and if you're a fan, the homemade pickled beets are the bomb. Check it out, friendly people, good quality food in an out of the way place. Visiting Angelica and wanted to see the Bills game. They were open and viewing. They had 42 North Borderland as well as Southern Tier in the bottle. Been in here twice before and they only had Southern Tier. Was glad to see the 42 North on tap. They also had Yuengling, Blue Moon and Blueberry Rosé. Don't come here for the ambience, but the hometown experience of small-town America. Super friendly ...one girl running the whole bar area working her tail off. Friday fish fry with soup and salad bar that gets busy. Come when they open at 4. You can come later but we like to come when everything is fresh. They make their own soups. Fish fry is good any way you order. With salad bar, you'll be full. Restaurant area nicer than bar area. Food is reasonably priced. Large parking lot and cute front porch out front. read more

This is our second visit to the American House Hotel and it's still great food and very friendly staff! We were camping near by and a friend drove down from the Buffalo area to take us to lunch. We stumbled on this place last year and fell in love with their food! Their home made potato chips are to die for! I'm pretty sure this place goes by "American Hotel"... not sure if they changed it or if it's just named wrong on here. Anyways... everybody talks about their Sunday Brunch, so when I woke up just before noon on a Sunday, this place was in the cards. We got there around noon, and there was only 3-5 tables seated at the time. They asked if we had reservations, which we didn't. After this experience I will probably reserve a table next time, because the entire restaurant was PACKED about 10 minutes after we were seated (lucky us!). Brunch was awesome and I'll probably be there every chance I get. $12 gets you access to some quality country cookin', a carving station w/ omelets, big ol' Belgian waffles, fresh salad fixins, the freshest fruit you're going to find, and more. I had a difficult time trying everything, because I got hooked on the comfort food (it was a long weekend). I was toting biscuits & gravy and corned beef hash each time I came back to the table. It obviously tasted great, but the true reason I was addicted was because none of it was very greasy or heavy. Half of my time there was spent questioning whether or not the hash was REALLY leaving me without a food coma! It was true... I left feeling full but not sleepy. After the breakfast gorging I had some fruit to try and balance things out. Very fresh, sweet cantaloupe and strawberries that tasted like they were sent from the gods. The ambiance was nice and comfortable. The service was very good. I took a look at their regular menu as we were waiting to be seated. I can imagine the American Hotel being a great place to get dinner with the family any night of the week, and I will definitely be trying this in the near future. But honestly, the brunch alone makes this place a home run worth traveling for. read more

We went here Friday night for our usual Haddock dinner. I decided to try the Walleye dinner. Before we had the entree, we decided to try the Shrimp Cocktail. Well we each got 5 huge shrimp that were cooked and chilled perfectly! They were served with a wedge of lemon and cocktail sauce that had the perfect bite of horseradish. This was easily one of the best Shrimp cocktails we have ever eaten. We have never gotten a bad meal here and the Walleye filet was amazing ! It was a huge filet that was battered and fried perfectly! I actually preferred the Walleye to my usual Haddock! The service was excellent, the waitress was friendly, courteous and not over bearing. We have visited here for Sunday Brunch, and had an excellent experience. Unfortunately after my wifes experience we will not be returning. Slow service..Forgetful Service..Its truly a shame that restaurants forget some some basics about customer experience. Strip Steak was flame seared to a char and perfect rawness, this made it uncuttable, let alone edible. Wife asked to send it back.. At this point her meal was ruined. But the story was not over..The steak returned..Refired!!! At this point it was now leather.. We asked again to discard the item.. Finally it went away...But they decided to still charge us for her meal!!! Now my wife has no interest to return therefore we will not return...Buy the way nearly $100 dollars for 2 Adults 2 kids , with sub par service..Truly a shame to not understand basics of service and execution!!!! read more

I have been to American House many times now and I mostly go for brunch these days. It is an amazing price for the quality of food and service that you get. Brunch is always a big display of foods with an omelet and carving station. There are fresh fruits and juices with wonderful deserts too. I have to say that the best part about this place is Stephanie, the owner. She is so friendly and makes you fee so welcome. The first time my husband and I ate there she greeted us and chatted. Ever since when we go it's like visiting old friends. Very warm place to go for any meal. We loved their food so much we had Stephanie cater our wedding and it was perfect! Fantasic food, good prices and amazing staff!

My wife and I went for wings and they were ok but the waitress whom I found out was the owner dropped a piece of celery and then stuck it between my toes (I was wearing sandals) and told me to eat it. It was awkward and weird but we went for Mother's Day Prime Rib and when we got there we had reservations but they took tables in front of us that you could tell were "friends" with the owner and the hostess/owner rolled her eyes to said friends when we spoke up. Finally we sat down for the great Prime Rib that was over cooked, was well done. Going through the buffet there was cheap microwavable food such as Pizza Rolls and Mac and Cheese from a box.
