"Rosebush closed early and voided my reservation on Valentine's Day. I called ahead, asked if they would be open until 11 PM as usual. They responded by confirming their listed closing time. I then made a reservation at 9:15, and gave my phone number in case anything happened to my reservation. When I arrived with my girlfriend, I found their doors to be locked, and the restaurant was closed. They never called, and tossed aside my reservation. This isn't the first time they have done this. On numerous other occasions I have tried eating here, and I have been met by locked doors. Only once have I managed to eat here, and the food and service were both decent, admittedly. I will say that if you can manage to actually eat here, it's decent. However, they have lost my recommendation personally, and I'm perfectly happy with never eating here again." I would like to, however, update my review with a new light. I've been coming back and having dinner here every once in a while since my terrible review. Since then, I've had plenty of very nice dinners with my significant other. The fish fry is very good, and I usually get the baked feta as an appetizer. The food is a nice touch for Alfred, and the service has absolutely improved. The staff are always very nice, welcoming, and accommodating. I have chosen to leave the stain of my former review in quotations, in hopes that it's not forgotten. I'm very happy to see the improvements and dedication from George and his staff at Rosebush. We love the Rosebush!!! The food is always excellent, and the servers are friendly and attentive!! My favorite dishes are the Southwest Wrap with chicken and the Chicken Schwarma. My husband loves the burgers and sweet potato fries. George, the owner, is delightful and has created a perfect dining spot in Alfred where locals and visitors can gather, enjoy a great meal and beverages, and have an amazing evening. read more

Everything I've ever ordered at The Rosebush has been very good. I was disappointed this fall when I saw the " shrimp & grits" was no longer on the menu. It was my favorite dish! We didn't care for the new counter service method of food delivery. It almost felt like we weren't at a fine dining restaurant. As for ambiance, there wasn't any. The lights were very bright and the acoustics have always been sub par. I realize that "George has had a hard time finding good help, but just wasn't a relaxing night out for us. read more

The food is hit or miss here. Sometimes it's all perfect and I have no complaints. The next time it will be overdone or undercooked. They seem to have a particularly hard time making french fries, they are often way overdone. Just no consistency. When it is good, it's really good, but you never know what you are going to get. Not sure if it is different chefs or what the issue is. The service is always great, though. I have never had any issues whatsoever with fast, attentive and super friendly wait staff. Honestly, sometimes the staff is the only thing that makes me willing to give it another shot. That and a lack of choices in the area. read more

I love this place so much. I've been coming here for awhile with my family and it never gets old. The workers here are so friendly and the owner never forgets to come over and say hi. Not only is the service great, but the food is amazing. I always get the black bean salad with tofu and wow is it so good. I also get the avocado toast as well when I'm extra hungry. We visited in the early evening after a tour of Alfred this past Friday. I don't eat meat and still managed to find a number of great options on the menu. The falafel sandwich was delicious, as was the red pepper hummus appetizer. The accompanying pita bread was especially awesome. My son loved his shrimp scampi and my husband thought the surf and turf Alfredo special was fantastic. The restaurant has a warm and comfortable ambiance and our servers were friendly and helpful. Hopefully if my son is admitted, we'll be eating here often! read more

We were not impressed. I went in specifically for an item on the menu and when I got there they said it was no longer available anymore and even though we were only one of two tables there at the time, it took forever to get our food, which was not that great. I went there for lunch and spent 1 hour and 15 minutes for two salads, a burger and a wrap. It was busy and they only had 1 waiter on. He was doing a great job considering, but the wait was WAY to long and my wrap was totally burnt on the bottom. I can't believe that they sent it out of the kitchen that way! My lunch was being paid for by someone else and we had already waited almost 45 minutes to be served so I did not send my meal back. I will not be back any time soon nor do I have anything nice to say about the place. I think the ONLY reason they are still open is because they are the only "nice" place in Alfred. Arrived for a very late lunch date with my fiancé on a Saturday to give this place a try. The decor was modern and appealing. It was relatively empty (it was a late lunch) and we seated ourselves. We soon got our menu and immediately saw they had Gnocchi in Pesto and that was amazing. I also had a delicious special soup. I was very full and sated. It may be a little pricey, but the Rosebush makes for a very nice upscale date. Next time, I like to try the Rose Burger, but if you don't know what to order, get the Gnocchi! read more

With ratings everyone seems to be talking about the service and not the food experience... Tomato soup special with red pepper appetizer: Delicious, rich, addictive. There were distractions away from the food... My fiancé and I were sitting by the window and the AC vent draft chilled me conspicuously, when outside was a balmy 65-70 degrees. Also, the chairs were unusually elastic and didn't functionally support my back (until I was leaning like 60 degrees back, which would make me 'wear my food' if I attempted to eat like that). I ordered the Red Curry Shrimp with brown rice and she ordered the Gnocchi with Pesto and Chicken. Mine was good and hers was amazing. I recommend trying the Gnocchi as they tasted homemade. The pesto was also delicious! She said the chicken was just OK as it was dry but the other stuff made it great. I helped her with about 1/3 of hers since I didn't feel entirely filled by the curry. It probably would have been better if it had more spicy kick to it, since it was sort of lackluster. I wouldn't recommend ordering that for its price & qty. Overall I would rate the food as 3.5 stars but I will round up to 4 stars. The tomato soup and the Gnocchi were addictive! I want to like Rosebush, I really do. Alfred desperately needs a restaurant that isn't a Sysco food staple. But let's face it, the food is "meh". The burgers and fries are the only consistent items on the menu. Everything else lacks flavor and frankly...salt. The decor has improved but the food is bland. Items like Pad Thai, Curry, and coconut shrimp are not new to people in Alfred. I frequently take my leftovers home to improve them the next day. Recently went to see what all the buzz was about and was pleasantly surprised to see such a diverse menu. This place offers a little bit of everything, from burgers and wraps to shawarma and curry. I had the curry and boy was it good. I've had curry from all over and this was definitely something worth trying. Great flavors and little bit of a kick definitely made this a dish I will plan on going back to try again! Great new restaurant in Alfred, NY. Fills a huge void in the town which is mainly comprised of pizza and diner food (until now). I was told they are expecting liquor license soon (just waiting for the paperwork to go through). Lunch was great, fresh, and presented well. Once this place gets its liquor license I can see it being the place to go in Alfred for anyone who doesn't want to go to a college oriented bar, wants great food, and a glass of wine, or a cocktail. Been here several times, and service is a little shoddy. They don't check to see if your water needs refilling, and they forget to come get the check after they give it to you. I've had a verity if their food, and starters a pretty good, but none of the enters have been good at all. The pesto gnocchi is extremely bland. I'd rather eat a potato raw. The pad Thai is just sour... couldn't finish it. If only there was as much effort put into the food as the restaurants design. read more

I came in with a party of 6 and the waiter threw two tables together extremely crooked. The chairs were very uncomfortable and the tacky centerpiece was so big we had to move it to the end of the table to see each other. Then he brought us our drinks in entirely mix matched glasses. Of the four appetizers we ordered, we only received three of them, no individual plates, and the portions were very small. I got the steak pita, which for $10, didn't come with a side or even chips. It was a flat, round pita laid on the plate with an absurd amount of nearly raw chunks of peppers and onions and a few pieces of fatty steak covered in melted cheese. The dish was totally incohesive, and there was no way to pick it up and eat it, so I had to struggle cutting through the pita with my fork and butter knife. This is the second time I have been to Rosebush, and this is the second time I got a disgusting meal. The falafel salad could have been nice, but the dressing it came with was gross and ruined the whole thing. I have felt sick after both times eating at this restaurant, so I am done going there. read more
