I hesitate to review Village European, a mainly German car repair shop in Concord, MA, because I liked them quite well at first, until we ran into a little problem. I don't like to burn bridges, either, but as far as I'm concerned, they have already burned them. The driver's side window regulator had failed on my Mercedes GLK350, so I brought it in for repair. It was quite expensive, compared with what it costs on other cars ($2500), which was bad enough, though I knew Mercedes would be expensive. The problem arose when I noticed that after the window regulator had been replaced, the keyless entry function had stopped working, on the driver side door. I asked, with some trepidation, if they were planning to fix it... and was told that they did NOT intend to fix it! I was given several excuses for that including "it's just a broken wire," and "it's characteristic of this model." Also, it would require the complete de-installation and reinstallation of the window regulator cassette, a job that takes at least several hours, each way, to take it back out and then reinstall it. Well, that is unfortunate, but the error was theirs. Why should I have to pay hundreds of dollars to fix what they broke? Village European claims to be experts in Mercedes cars. They knew that this wire breaking was characteristic of my model, yet they didn't bother to ensure that it survived their handling. They broke it, and their refusal to fix what they broke, sticking me with the bill, is a deal-breaker! Additionally, I was driving my BMW that day, which I had just taken out of winter storage. Shortly before the break over the Mercedes keyless entry issue, their head (?) mechanic told me that the BMW's brakes were shot, that the discs were worn unevenly (as if that would not be obvious from driving it, if it were true) needed new discs and pads, no doubt, and probably calipers (which would have come to about $2K). I looked at them. Yes they looked patchy, but I thought I knew why. The discs had acquired a thin film of rust overwinter, which had only partly worn off in my first drive of the year. By the time I got home, the rust had worn completely off, and they looked, and worked perfectly normally! The truth is, that was just a thin film of surface rust, unevenly worn, which must have been obvious to the mechanics there... One last thing. During the several days they had my GLK, I had come in several times to check on progress and offer to bring payment up to date, i.e. to pay them. They always refused, saying I could let it go until they were done. After we had our disagreement about the keyless entry problem, I renewed my offer to pay them then, when he (Jacob) announced that "he had gotten paid alright," i.e. he had already taken payment, off my CC (which he apparently had on record), in my absence, as if to say he thought I might not pay him! This after trying repeatedly to pay him... That was in fact the last straw! I can be very understanding. What I understood from these experiences was that this shop is less than honest. I cannot continue to do business with a shop that cheats me, or tries to cheat me... They seemed so nice! And they do have a beautiful shop... But I guess appearances can be deceiving... read more

Buyer Beware: Gaslighting hubris by the head mechanic who created new non-existing issues (he's clearly wrong stating I didn't know what that systems were working). I was hopeful yet this unfortunately was not a good mechanic experience. 1st all: Poor customer service as the owner barks instead of talking at civilized professional tone. Not trustable More car issues that didn't exist were created after bringing it to them. The owner also accused his paying customer of not knowing the condition of his car before bringing it to Village European as I clearly know what worked before bringing it to him for diagnosis. Customers expect you tof ix the problem that a customer request rather than trying to upsell them by bringing up other issues. Seems reason.. Overcharged as the posted hourly rate of $158 per hour yet was charged more(the old price bait & switch) Village European also never did requested work. Can't reason or debate a "Mr Know It All" so I have to inform the public of my experience. It's hard to reason with a business who denies facts about my initial car condition with verifiable sources previous to him that validate my car. Don't waste your time trying to Village European and David S. Clark the shady and rude owner. The owner and head mechanic wouldn't also answer simple questions about advice on my car; isn't that what you seek from a paid "professional"? I brought my car in for one issue and he tried to upsell me to also fix a bunch of other things. read more

Dave Clark, owner and master technician, is friendly and helpful. He took a quick look at my BMW with non-working parking assistance and rear turn signals (though working hazard lights). He opened up tail lights, replaced old bulbs (nearly fused) to try to find quick fix at very reasonable cost. Unfortunately this didn't work, and will need a full diagnostics test $144 to find the problem. BMW has complex electronics that require a specific trained technician, which even a 40-year veteran on Mercedes rely on to fix BMW systems! This seems like an honest helpful workshop, will come back. If I change car to Mercedes, this will be my go-to workshop. read more

In October I purchased a used vehicle from Wayne over at Village European. The entire process was up-front, friendly, and professional. My wife and I were very satisfied with the vehicle in the following months, when an unfortunate turn of events occurred. Just three months after our purchase, a manufacturer's defect reared its ugly head. Unexpectedly, the transmission on our newly-purchased vehicle broke, rendering the car inoperable. After obtaining multiple quotes from local auto body mechanics, my wife and I were looking at a $4000 expense just to get the car running again. Not expecting Wayne at Village European to do anything considering it was a used vehicle purchase with no warranty, I called just to share my frustration. To my surprise, Wayne stood by his sale and immediately offered to pick up the vehicle where I had left it with their tow truck, at no cost, and bring it back to their shop to provide an estimate. Wayne called within a few days to let me know that indeed, the transmission would need to be replaced or undergo heavy repair. The difference was Wayne told me "he wanted us to be satisfied with our car" and that he would do all the work for free! We received our car just a few weeks later, with a new transmission installed. Since that time our car has run without issue, and we are just in awe of the customer service we received from Village European. I didn't think anyone would go to this length to satisfy their customers, but they did, and I would recommend this business to anyone looking for honest treatment in sales and service. read more

I was borrowing my 80-year-old mother's car to run errands during Covid, and I noticed two alarming lights going off as I neared Concord. Concerned by this, I stopped by Village European for the first time, and asked if they might take a quick look to make sure something wasn't dangerously amiss. Not only did they drop what they were doing, but they quickly repaired the issue (it had to do with the computerized alert system itself, not the steering or tires as I had feared). When I went to pay them, they said: It was on the house! During such a stressful time, and several miles from home, their generosity (and knowledge) meant the world to me. read more

I would run before trusting this man's word. He made a promise and didn't keep his word... that tells you everything you need to know about Wayne. Drove from Connecticut with my son on a Sunday to meet with Wayne regarding a used car. This would be my son's first car, so it was a big day and an hour and a half ride. We test drove the car, agreed on a price and shook hands. We arranged for me to come 2 days later with a check to pick up the car. I took the day off, insured the car and got all the money together. I will work with them to the end of the days of my car (... that will be never!). Their service solutions are clear and explained. I am given options for the work. Action is confirmed with me before the work starts. Nothing is ever missed. I am the car owner who wants everything just right. They pursue even the seemingly most minor issue that I bring in. I have never this much joy about giving my money to someone Kathy and Dave are wonderful people who made buying a car a wonderful experience. Dave is very knowledgeable about cars and Kathy does a great job on the sales front. It's never a hi-pressure sales pitch like has become the norm at most other dealership. I wasn't local so they ensured I'd be picked up at the train station and dropped off. Weeks after I bought the car, there would still be follow up to check in on whether everything was ok. Overall, Kathy and Dave run a great business with a lot of personal touch. I would recommend Village European to anyone in the market for a used car. read more

I really wanted to be comfortable here as I am new to the area and needed a new place to take my Audi TT for service. I was optimistic based on the good reviews but unfortunately I did not have a good experience. I left the car on a Thursday morning because my blinkers were working intermittently. I was told they'd take a look at it and get back to me. I didn't hear anything so I finally called them on Friday afternoon. They said they were waiting on an estimate to replace the damaged fog light (which I didn't ask them to replace and which was already being dealt with through an insurance claim). In other words-an unnecessary delay. They said they would try to get the parts in for the blinkers by the next day and someone would call me. I said to keep it through the weekend as I would be away and I would plan to pick it up Monday afternoon. Monday afternoon came and went and no one called me so I called back. They said they still didn't even have the parts! I could have ordered them from Amazon prime by now. Tuesday came and I got a call saying the delivery truck came and my parts still weren't on it. They have now had my car since Thursday!! Wednesday at around 4:30 I got a call saying my car was finally ready. When I dropped the car off I also asked them if they would check the fluids and give it a once over since I was to be taking a long road trip to NC the following week. When I finally picked up the car on Thursday, I asked what they found. They had my car for 7 days and didn't bother to check for me. He said I could bring it back and leave it for about an hour and they'd be happy to do it??? After having my car for one full week!!!! I was seriously underwhelmed by the communication, the delays and the seeming lack of interest in making it right (no offer of any discount or anything for all the hassle). In the plus column: the blinkers seem to be working. read more

Getting you're foreign car is never fun. In the back of your mind you know a minor fix is gonna be pricey, but that is the price you pay to have a German logo on your hood. However.... If you go see Jake and his team down at Village European you will take great comfort in the knowledge that you're in excellent and certified hands. He's honest and fair! The work he did to my Audi was excellent! I'll be returning to him for all of my service and repairs going forward. The world needs more people like the folks at Village European. Cannot say enough good things about the staff and ownership. I am not a regular customer here because it's not close enough to home, but that makes my experience with them even more impressive. I was driving home from work after a longer, more stressful day than normal when I noticed steam coming from under the hood of my car, great I thought. I pulled into the closest gas station I was aware of, which just happened to be adjacent to Village European. I know some about cars and opened my hood to see if I could figure out the problem. I saw my serpentine belt in shredded knots. It was at this point I noticed Village. As I walked over a mechanic was walking out and I asked how much it would be to replace a serpentine belt. He offered to come take a look and see what else, if anything, was wrong. He agreed that it was the belt but also noticed a blown hose, that I had missed in my frustration. He invited me back to the shop and as we were walking offered me a used hose, that he knew he had on the counter, he then also said he had some coolant I could use and asked his parts guys to look to see if they had the belt in stock. While we waited for that, he drew me a diagram of the belt routing (from memory). Once I had all the parts in hand he offered to let me borrow his tools so I could put things back together, which I was able to do with his guidance. Long story short, with the help and friendly attitude of Dave (the mechanic/owner), I was able to turn a sure-to-be terrible evening into a relatively easily fixed problem and great story about the decent people still left. I have already told many of my friends and family this story and thought it was worth sharing online for others to see. read more

My regular mechanic gracefully declined to replace a misbehaving trunk sensor in my German convertible, so I got ahold of this shop via a referral from "The Benz Den". To their credit, they did a great job identifying and replacing the broken trunk wiring harness, and their free loaner car (depending on availability) really helps to offset the $90/hr-ish rate. They also patched a nail-hole in my tire and replaced a broken tail light. All in all, a very good amount of service for the $250-ish it cost, I was very happy with the price and the single-day turnaround. However, things quickly went downhill when I arrived to pick up my car. They tried to sell me an extra $2500 or so worth of repairs for things such as a deteriorating air-mass sensor and lower air-boot, torn out rear shock mounts, leaky rear axle seals, loose front sway bars, and a broken coil spring. After scraping my jaw off the ground, I demurred at getting the repairs scheduled right then and there, and took the car to my regular mechanic (Paul at B&R Auto in Arlington. AWESOME place, but I digress...) with the list in-hand for a second opinion. Long story short, B&R explained how just about everything on that list was BS, with the exception of the broken left-rear coil spring. In addition to giving the car a thorough going-over on the lift, we went through a list of symptoms that my car *should* exhibit if any of the above things were indeed wrong, and none of those things had been happening to my car. Given all that, I cannot really recommend Village European for anything except replacing faulty trunk wiring harnesses. If you really want to give these guys a go, I would advise having a different trusted mechanic on standby for a second opinion on any major repairs Village European might recommend. read more

These guys are absolute scam artists. They overcharge for parts & service and try to up-sell additional repairs by spinning fear, uncertainty, and doubt. I took their list of imminent failures to another mechanic who said the parts had plenty of life left and didn't need to be replaced. I really wish I read these reviews before setting up an appointment with Village European. read more

Same experience as the previous post. I went in for a timing belt (scheduled) on a 2004 Audi Allroad. I have a code reader and knew that one temp sensor was popping up. They did the timing belt fine and I talked directly to the mechanic in the bay and also to the service writer. Both seemed pleasant and intelligent. BUT...they both tried to sell me an extra $3,000 worth of work, ALL of the sensors, valve cover seals, etc, etc, etc. The mechanic told me, "its throwing codes for all 3 sensors", clearly a straightaway lie. I said no on all of this and now 30,000 miles later...and one temp sensor...I have not needed anything they recommended. I live nearby and they have nice cars on the lot and what appear to be some nice people but BEWARE. read more

Village European serviced my 1.8T A4 and I was pleased with the whole experience. The service manager was friendly and very knowledgable and the Audi technician was both skilled and experienced in the field. I have had bad experiences with other European specialty shops but Village European left no doubt in my mind as to what work needed to be done. The technician walked me through his findings after road testing my car and explained what needed to be fixed and why, so that I could make an informed decision. I will only bring my car to Village European from now on and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a friendly atmosphere and quality service. read more

I have been here twice now. Both times the impression I was left with was that they are honest (impossible to find in a mechanic!) and like to do the right thing VS any of the various scams mechanics like to pull. My bill was extremely reasonable and they could not have kept me more informed throughout the job. Waiting area is at-par with most dealerships - even though this is a small indy shop. You can talk to the mechanic working on your car directly VS some BS service rep who doesn't know what he/she is talking about. This is a great + You may have to pay a bit for the service - but that's most probably due to the fact that you likely have a German car and parts and labor for these beasts is not cheap. Do not expect Toyota repair prices for a BMW/Merc. I will go back. Strongly recommended ----------- I've only been here once but my experience was excellent. The folks on the phone are polite and efficient. The guys in the shop know what they are doing and clearly love cars. My issue was resolved on the first visit and since it was a small job - they declined to charge me for it. They said (and I agree) that they want me to build a long term relationship and I will be going back here when I need indy service for my BMW. read more

Dave and Chip are wonderful professionals who really care about you and your car. They know Audi's and BMW's inside out and are committed to doing the best job possible. They also take extra time to make sure you understand what is needed and why. I recently had to have my car towed because of a check engine light and, what we thought to be a low oil pressure light. Both Dave and Chip spent hours going over the car trying to diagnose the problem and talking to my husband and myself. It turned out to be nothing serious and I was charged the Diagnostic fee only. I have since taken it back for service and couldn't be happier. They charge a fair price for great work. As an Audi owner for many years I have found that many mechanics really don't know how to work on my car or misdiagnose issues. This will not happen with Village European. I would not hesitate to recommend them. read more

My daughter's boyfriend got a flat tire in her 05 BMW X3 on rte 2- the donut spare tire was flat and jack broke - ugh( not his lucky day). We had it towed to Village European that we used once before and they were great... they gave him a loaner to get to work by 10:30 - amazing! I took my MINI in for some odd electrical issues and Village European was able to quickly diagnose the problem, advised me how best to deal with it, and guided both my insurance company and myself through the decision to total the car as repairs were prohibitively expensive and future issues were almost guaranteed. I had a short, very positive experience with Village European. My 2012 Audi A6 underbody cover was dragging on the road and I dropped by to see if I could get a quick look-see. Jake at VE made room for me and confirmed that there was no further damage caused by the exposed undercarriage. He secured the cover for me and I was on my way. I was impressed by the experience and found the waiting area to be quite comfortable and accommodating . Excellent wifi bandwidth allowed me to be productive during this short visit. This was a simple repair, but I left with the impression that these guys are very competent and run a good operation. read more

I used to work for Dave (owner of Village European as well as the Benz Den in Belmont) many years ago, and am now a customer. Dave is a good guy, incredibly technically competent, hires good competent people, and does good diagnostic and repair work. Yes your bill at Village European might be a little higher than at some other shops, but the work will be done right the first time, and with quality parts, not Chinese junk. Your bill might also be lower than other shops because at VE they'll diagnose the problem correctly, and not just keep replacing parts until the problem goes away. Jake at the front desk is also incredibly friendly, helpful, and easy to work with. If you're used to clueless surly service writers at dealerships and other repair shops, you'll be pleasantly surprised here. I recommend them 100%. read more

We were looking for a used Subaru for our daughters to share.. They had a trade in on the lot so we inquired on a Saturday when they were closed. They called us back immediately and offered to me us on Sunday for a test drive even though they are closed on Sunday ! We bought the car and they did everything for us to just come and pick it up. They could not have been more helpful and quickly repaired the broken turbo coolant hose so that we could be on our way. These guys were great and really took care of me. I initially went there to buy a car from them as I was looking at Audi A4's and S4's, unfortunately they did not have a car for me that fit my price range, they were very helpful and also said when they were around looking at cars to buy for the shop, they would keep me and my price range in mind and see if they could find something. I eventually ended up finding a car else where from a private sale, and brought it to them for a pre-purchase inspection. The price was fair, and they did a great job looking over the car even knowing I wasn't buying from them. It was really awesome to have them still give me their full attention and helpful service. The inspection was good and they gave me the green light to go ahead and buy the car. Based on that experience, I can say without a doubt these are loyal and trustworthy people who are not just trying to rip someone off as Lee W. has said. The things they noticed was them being thorough and offering him to information necessary to identify the problems if they would come up, the fact that they would tell the symptoms like that is actually really honest. I have gone back there for service on my new car, and will continue to do so as they have earned my trust and others I know who have gone there. I brought my 2010 328 there to get checked out and they brought me in explained everything, pointed out the problem areas in impressive detail. The prices were fair and far better than the dealership. It was always a pleasure to deal with them and they continue to be responsive to me inquiries even if I dont end up using their shop. The repairs that they did for me were excellent upon inspection from the dealership when I brought it in for a prepurchase inspection, when I was going to sell it. I dont have my bmw anymore but cant recommend them high enough to anyone with a european vehicle that needs servicing. read more

I am rating Village European a one because zero is not an option. Nine months ago, (last November), CURTIS sold me a used Audi Q7. I know, it is used! However, here is the list of issues with the car - check engine light, TPMS system failure (low tire pressure), these first two issues were found after purchase, around 1000 miles, - sunroof leaked when it rained, exhaust system. I was also told the vehicle just had the oil serviced and brakes done. I repaired the sunroof leak myself and CURTIS had a shop in Sudbury, MA do the exhaust repair. After the repair the under carriage protection plate was never reinstalled and is gone. I needed an Audi dealer to repair the TPMS and check engine for a cool $2,800. It seems the car system was cleared for the sale of the car, so all the problems were hidden. Audi also serviced the oil, and was told that the oil had not been changed and was over by approximately two times. Over the first few months I reached out to CURTIS to have these repairs done, which I was fine with paying and stated so, but CURTIS never once return my requests. The reason I have chose to write this now is the finding out of the oil and missing protection skid plate. I hope this may save someone from buying a costly investment. In a reply to my review, the business owner again erroneously states that "During the alignment, both front tie rods were found seized". The mechanic stated that one of the tie rods was never checked because it was already in an aligned position. This was the key reason I chose not to do any further business with VIllage European. As a business, one must admit to their mistakes, understand why the customer is unhappy, and do their best to make things whole again. Village European is missing the first two pieces of that puzzle. All they did was refund me for incorrectly done work. They didn't understand why the work was not done correctly or why I chose to not take the mechanics offer to come back. read more

I have taken my two BMWs to Chip at Village European over the past several years and have been very satisfied with his work. He is a true expert for E30s (1984-91 3-series) and recently he installed a Dinan Shockware suspension program in my new 328d. The change in the car;s handling and road feel is remarkable. VE is one of the few independent (non-BMW dealership) Dinan distributors in the nation and we are very lucky to have one here locally. I can give Chip and VE the highest recommendation for thoroughness and communication abilities. They always take the time to explain the whys and wherefores of whatever work they are recommending. That amount of information allows you to decide whether you want to have the work done now or wait and see if the particular problem gets worse over time. read more

I started bringing my 2008 BMW 3 series here in 2012 after my factory warranty expired. In addition to routine service (oil change, etc.), they also replaced the water pump when it failed earlier this winter. I've been very pleased with the level of service and have a lot of confidence in their technical knowledge. What prompted me to write this review was my visit last week. The front grille had started to separate slightly on one side. I didn't have an appointment, but called that day and they suggested I stop by so they could take a look. Within 20 minutes of arriving, one of the techs had diagnosed and taken care of the issue (one of the connecting bolts had worked its way loose). Quick, no hassle, and for this particular visit no charge (although I would gladly have paid under other circumstances). With this level of customer service, I expect to keep coming back. read more

My son and I have been taking our 2000 Audi S4 to Village European since we acquired it in late 2012. First took it there for a post purchase inspection. They found a number of issues, some urgent and some that needed to be watched. They helped us prioriortize the repairs so we could budget it better. They even provided some guidance to us for some DIY repairs on some of the items that we could tackle ourselves. This helped reduce our overall costs and frankly not a lot of shops would take this cusotmer friendly approach. We have been back ever since for a variety of repairs. Each time, they have have provided detailed info on the scope and the estimates. They provide high end service for high end cars but the feel is that of a neighborhood shop. On many occasions, I have stopped by to ask general questions about issues with the car and each time they have stopped whatever they were doing and taken the time to help me out. I would strongly recommend them for anyone that is looking for service on their import vehicle. read more
