I moved to north Waltham about a year ago, and needed a new mechanic when my battery light came on and I started smelling burning rubber. I read the stellar reviews of Peter's Auto online and called them the next morning. Peter was able to see me right away and found several other safety issues that should have been spotted at my recent inspection. He and his son replaced all four brakes, my alternator, the left front axle, and my front links all in the same day, and at an honest price. He even threw in a free oil change. They were both very patient with my questions and even called and asked me to come back the next day to double-check that all my lug nuts were tightened correctly. I felt very taken care of. When you try a new mechanic you never know what you're going to get so I truly lucked out. Peter's absolutely cares. They care about their work, they care about the neighborhood, they care about their customers, and they care about your pocket. They clearly understand how expensive repairs are and work with you. I was having issues with my brakes and they looked at them quickly and called super fast with the diagnosis and the cost. Even though the repair took slightly longer than they expected, they communicated incredibly throughout and I never felt like I was wondering what was happening. Unfortunately for me right after I spent all the money to repair my car it was totaled by a deer crossing the highway but what can you do?! Came here because my car shit the bed on the highway as I was driving and was shaking uncontrollably. This was the closest auto shop to where I was able to safely exit the highway. I drove up, hyperventilated in my car, and then went to talk to the guys inside. I'm a lady and no absolutely nothing about cars, but the owner ( I think Pete) came out and helped me ease me tension. I explained what was going on, he let me know what he thought the problem was then turned on my car and confirmed the issue. He made sure to point out what was happening in the car that confirmed his suspicions and made it a point to make me feel what was happening so I knew how to tell later on. I wanted him on double check it wasn't an axle issue as well, so he took me on a ride and did donuts for n a side street to again show me what to look me! I felt so much better by the end of this visit and felt relieved leaving my car in great hands. This man felt like a father figure trying to teach his daughter about cars, you can tell he really knows what he's doing and above all is really fair with pricing and broke down all the costs for me while also trying to order the parts from the dealership. Took a day to get the parts in and he called to let me know he found another issue and would fix it. Quoted me again and went ahead and fixed the problem. My car's dashboard battery warning light went on, so I tested the battery at O'Reilly and found out that the alternator was not charging the battery! Peter's mechanic shop was the closest one to me, so I stopped there for the first time. It was just minutes before they close! Peter checked and confirmed that the alternator was dead, and it's just dangerous to drive since all the electrical power was drawn from the battery. Not only did Peter give me a reasonable price to replace the alternator, but he also gave me his courtesy car to drive home on a cold winter night and come back in the next morning. The fact that he doesn't know me and yet was kind enough to offer me a courtesy vehicle shows how kind and generous this man is. "It's OK!! We're here to help our neighbors, my friend," he said. My Honda Accord air conditioner failed to operate. I drove by and they quickly find and solved problem within an hour. The failure of compressor was due to a relay, rather the compressor itself has no problem. I was at dealership before and they estimate way more to charge. These guys continue to be awesome. I moved 30 miles away...and still go here to get my car repaired and my oil changed. Here is why: 1) My Subaru is one of the batch from 2014 that has had many issues where the dealership says, "It's a known issue...but we're not going to cover it." Pretty much every time this happens, these guys find something after market or gently used that does the trick for half the price the dealership quoted me. 2) At present, money is very tight for me, and these guys have worked to keep my car running despite its high miles. These guys will tell me when there is work I'll need to get done in the upcoming months, and they'll give me an estimated range so I can begin to save up. And you know what? There are never any surprises when I do get things done and I get the bill. 3) I also really appreciate that these guys hear me out. With other garages and at dealers, I've spent a lot of time getting dismissed when it comes to figuring out my car (c.f., see the review I wrote for my dealership back when I had a Toyota, oy). Peter and his merry band really *listen* and consider your experience when they're diagnosing the problem--it's not just what is happening right now to the car in the shop. And that is a skill worth its weight in gold. 4) Everyone there is clear about where they're sourcing parts from and how much use those parts have had previously, if any. And if anything fails, they stand by their work and they fix it. 5) If they find a problem that they think a dealer will cover for free, they stop what they're doing and they recommend I run the issue by the dealer first. I had a minor accident and thought I had a flat tire. Peter's was within walking distance. He drove me back to my car with the intention of helping change the tire. It turned out it was a bigger problem than expected. We got it to his shop, and he and his son started working on it right away. We were looking for a place to have our brakes replaced so went to Yelp, as always. Peter's Auto Repair had quite a few 4-5 star reviews and we noticed that the shop is right around the corner from our new home, so my husband called to see if they could do a brake job and he was told to bring it right in. He met father and son, both very nice, and learned a little about the history of their business as they talked. They showed him the rotors to be sure he was in agreement that they needed to be replaced along with the brake pads. They did a great job, they had it done in half a day and the price was competitive. Definitely recommend Peter's and we will go back if and when we ever need work done on our cars. I just moved to the area and needed a mechanic when my back tire started squeaking after releasing my e-brake. I had just left the Lexus dealership a few days earlier and was told I need the front brakes done. Lexus has always done work for my car including the 40,000 servicing I had when there and do good work. I'm sorry but 700 bucks for a front brake job was obscene. I called Peter's Auto Repair from a referral who said they were great) and was told to bring it by. He is a friendly man and was kind to my 7 y/o daughter and I . The car was done in an hour ( we were at the park next door) when we got the call that it was all set. Car looked amazing. No grease marks in the interior as ALL OTHER places do. Brakes and Rotors looked awesome and worked awesome. No squeaks or new noises which come with new breaks in other places. Good parts , great workmanship nice people. They treat you like family every time and always go above and beyond! My electric power steering started having serious issues. Of course, when I brought it to Peter's, the issue stopped happening. They kept digging into my car's computer until they diagnosed the problem accurately. They also repaired my tire that was leaking and fixed something that was causing a clunking noise- without charge! The power steering problem has to be replaced at my dealership because of computer logistics, but Peter called my dealership himself and confirmed this part would be under warranty and told me everything to say & do (when I called my dealership, they initially denied the warranty so Peter saved me ~$800). As a woman with little car knowledge, it's difficult to find honest and respectful mechanics. Peter is always transparent and tells me if something needs to be fixed immediately, within the next few months, or only if it becomes a problem. Prices are always fair and they don't charge for the 'little' things that a dealership or other mechanics would charge for. read more

I must share this, after reading the many positive comments about Peter's Auto Repair it is only fare that I give my view. I was planning a trip to NY and wanted to insure the Murano was in good shape for the trip. I was concerned about the brakes as I had not replaced them since owning the vehicle. While change the breaks the oil was changed also. Low and behold during the trip the car started over heating and smoking, it turned out the OIL CAP had not been put back in place . There was oil everywhere under the hood. There I was in Connecticut in the middle of the night not knowing what to do. I found a empty container that fit over the where the oil cap should have been and got home safely. Went back to Peter's and told them what occurred, his son forgot ( constantly on his cell phone) to put the oil cap back on. He found a oil cap, re - filled the oil and 'said he' cleaned up some of the oil spill all over under the hood. My car hasn't ran well since. This could have blew my engine if I hadn't acted quickly to cover the missing oil cap. I drove over 300 miles with oil spilling . I chose Peter's Auto Repair because I want to support merchants in the area I lived. read more

I stumbled upon Peter's Auto Repair by accident about 3 years ago because I live and work in the area and needed emergency work on my beloved Infiniti. The work was done fast and most importantly, my baby was running smoothly again. Since then, I've taken my car there for minor things, like changing out my HID light bulbs to major work like replacing my clutch. I'm somewhat of a cheapskate (hey, I'm Asian), so I usually call around for quotes before getting work done...Peter almost always quotes me something in the ballpark or less. The place is a little unassuming, next to a pizza shop and hiding behind a thin tree...but it is very convenient to get to as it's only a minute or two off route 128. They don't take AMEX, which is a bummer. Other than that, no complaints! read more
