I had no idea that Village Grocery & Refillery AND Village Coffee & Goods shared the same owners- but it all makes sense. A no-school day for me and impending snow on this side of Kingston was meant for one thing: getting out of the house and heading to breakfast. Village G. is exactly the type of cozy you want on a cold day- because the moment I stepped in here it felt warm, welcoming and bustling. Just like their name, Village G. is part grocery store- where they source fruits and veg from upstate farms and local suppliers and you get some refillable bulk items. You'll also find bagged pastas, prepared salads and grab-and-go meals. But for me, the kitchen is the main event. If a menu has a mushroom omelette, I get weak and Village G.'s version delivered. Theirs is on a toasted sourdough, buttery eggs+mushrooms, topped with arugula and Parmesan. It was earthy and freaking delicious. Excellent food, coffee and pastries. Very friendly staff working hard all together. I got their smoked turkey sandwich with gf bread. It's some of the best gf bread I've ever had and I believe they make it in house. GF people know how rare a good gf bread is. This is absolutely worth the stop for those who are GF. I also had the maple latte which was perfectly sweetened and not too sugary and the coffee is not acidic. I also got two pastries to go, again, perfectly sweetened pastries, not super sugar heavy and they were both moist and super super delicious. These guys known what they're doing. read more

This sister location to Village Coffee is a gem. Prepared food, sandwiches, coffee and baked goods as well as fresh produce from local farms eggs, milk, cheese yogurt, jams, honey and bulk items like dried beans, granola, pasta, nuts and seeds. Even laundry detergent. Prices are mostly reasonable. Cute outdoor tables if you want to eat on site. I love that you can bring your own containers or they have paper bags if you forget. People even donate glass jars, which is very clever. It's a small place and it does get fairly busy, and a bit cramped. Also, you need to do all of your own weighing of the bulk items, which can be confusing the first visit and time consuming, so plan ahead for that. read more

This place is a tough one. First off, kimchi (house made) is awesome. I go there literally for just that. But I also get coffee. They may have the best cup or tied for 1st best cup in Kingston. But also also they have great baguettes! If you can get them.... I find it hard to validate some of their pricing but BUT overall I would recommend supporting them. Somehow I had no idea this was even here, and has been for over a year! We used to shop at the Sunshine Market (though admittedly, not very often; only when we happened to be nearby and needed a few things and didn't want to go to a full-blown supermarket. Sunshine actually filled in a perfect niche between running to the gas station because you ran out of milk and going to Hannadford/Adam's/Shoprite for your weekly shopping. But I digress). It was a nice little surprise, but a few notes: Cons: 1) Yes, it is expensive, though the quality of all of the items (prepared and freshly made) seems high 2) Yes, it's full of hipsters (both employees and customers) so if this annoys you for some reason, prepare yourself ahead of time 3) It's only half the size of the old Sunshine market (which is kind of weird... what's in the other half of the building? It even still says Sunshine Farm Market on the east side of the building) 4) The counter setup sucks. There's about 5 employees milling about (and more in the back) but it's unclear where to place your order, where to pick it up, who to pay, and where to wait. The store could REALLY use an "Order here" and "Pickup here" sign, but I guess it's not cool and would mess up their feng shui or whatever, so be prepared to get frustrated with this. I actually flagged down an employee and asked if I was suppose to order at the counter and pay at the register and she actually said "Either one". Then when some other employee finally came out to take my order, he gave me a terminal to pay for my order... at the counter... not at the register... Yikes. This place rivals Sunrise Bagels for worst ordering flow. 5) What the hell is a Refillery? Pros: 6) Plenty of parking in front 7) A customer bathroom is available though it's kind of awkwardly positioned in the main sales floor area 8) Kingston Standard is next door, which I have been meaning to try, but it was closed. Maybe next time! 9) We ordered some food, sandwiches, and baked goods. All were really fresh and tasty. I'm not really impressed with this place at all. Everything is incredibly overpriced. Why would I pay over $15 for a head of cauliflower? I can find the same local stuff at a cheaper cost. Just seems like the owners want most of the profit. This is clearly not a place for low-income community members to come to...specifically because it is based in a low-income area. It just feels off. I came in for coffee one morning cause I was desperate and ran out of some at home. I figured I'd buy a bag instead of a cup. $22 dollars for 12oz of coffee? I couldn't believe it. I just ended up getting a cup and the coffee was mediocre itself. If you're gonna be a coffee place, at least have decent coffee. The tipping point for me was when I was in the store to get coffee, a woman who I assume may have been one of the owners was yelling at the top of her lungs at her employees. It was weird because it was as if there was no self awareness that customers were in the store. I had asked someone there if that was the owner and they told me yes. It doesn't seem like they treat their employees with any respect or dignity. That was the last time I went there. There are so many marginalized people in this community. This is just another bougie NYC tourist trap. Local community members, stay far away. read more

My husband and I thought we'd pop in last week and we're glad we did. A little disappointed because the place is a little out of our budget range. It seems to be more of a touristy place for out of towners to spend their money rather than lifetime locals and other lower income community members. We were however delighted to see some delish looking ham and cheese pin wheels. My husband and I ordered one to split and we wish we had ordered the rest of them. They were TO DIE FOR. The dough was melt-in-your-mouth good and the rest of the ingredients tasted, for lack of a better word, scrumptious. Definitely gonna be popping back in there for the pinwheels! read more

Absolutely incredible sandwiches with a wide variety. Excellent selections of meats and cheeses, consistently delicious, fresh pastries, and a cute selection of bulk or household items. Wonderful, friendly staff. A big qualm with this place though is the pricing. The produce is absolutely bonkers. If you don't look carefully, you could be paying $9 for a watermelon or $7 for a bag of chips. Their avocados cost $3.50 or 3/$9. Really wish Village would reduce its pricing so locals can actually eat there. It really is in a prime location for community-building and it's a shame it's pandering to the gentrification currently sweeping town. For now, this is definitely a 'treat' spot or a spot where second-home folks/weekenders go to. read more

The baked goods are amazing, the sandwiches and menu are delicious, and the prepared foods are excellent. The refillery name is a bit misleading (I refill soaps here but that's it) because it's more of a specialty grocery store with coffee, meals, and baked goods. i love it here! really nice guy at the counter today, washed our blueberries for us and made me an excellent flat white. pastries, bread and muffins r super good. i love shopping at a small place like this where everything is curated and you know that it's good. it's expensive, but really good quality stuff, small business supporting other small businesses! very good vibes. at a certain point before i knew about the farmers market i was going here to fill large food orders like a dumb dumb but now that i'm acclimated i recognize village coffee and grocery as the treat it is. read more
