Half Moon is an absolute gem - such a cute, cozy spot to start the day. Their apple cider donuts are to die for--perfectly soft, flavorful, and everything you want in a cider donut. The babka is just as impressive: rich, delicious, and clearly made with so much care, we ordered a chocolate slice to eat in and a whole cinnamon loaf to take home. Everything tastes fresh and homemade, and it's the kind of place that's worth going out of your way for. A must-stop if you're in Kingston, especially if you love great baked goods and don't forget to order a side of flavored seasonal latte with your pastries :) Service was great and quick.

The inside has tons of seating and has a warm, cozy environment. The service was great; the cashier and the other employee making the food in the back were helpful. But sadly, their matcha is genuinely terrible. I'd get it if it was cheap matcha, but it was $7.25 just for very poor quality matcha. They don't have bagels. It did take a while (over 15 minutes) for just a bacon egg and cheese and a baguette with cream cheese... I've gotten it at places a lot faster before. It also wasn't much sandwich for the price I paid, and I had to put the ketchup on myself bc they wouldn't do it... the sandwich itself was good though, and I really liked the texture and taste of the bread they used. I won't be coming back but I can't say this place is *bad*.

How is this not hanging in the Louvre? (I guess the bathroom at Half-Moon is a close second.)

An uneven weekend (our hotel as well as where we went for dinner the night before were both disappointing) was about to come to an end and we needed to fuel up for the journey home. Yelp came to the rescue and we found ourselves... here. Cats aplenty (from hats to posters) which is an automatic 5-stars from the Mrs. We bounced around the menu (loaf of babka here, egg-and-cheese sandwich there, some desserts over that way) as well as coffee and an Arnold Palmer. Each item was purr-fection. (Hey! Half-Moon started it, dang it.) Seriously scrumptious eats. Not that cheap but worth every penny. This is exactly the type of place you expect when you're in the heart of a historic part of town. Charming and quirky and full of great energy. Cool workers, too. (Now if someone could tell us what that weird relic of a machine-contraption was when you first walk in... you'd help my family settle a bet.)

Hard to find a delicious breakfast place in Kingston but this is the one. The other places are just typical average breakfast American diner type.

Chocolate On Chocolate On Chocolate: (Their Famously-Known Chocolate Babka Loaf)

People go in search of monstrosity. I search for all things chocolate. Half Moon has a strong "if you know, you know" energy. So after reading about Half Moon's famously known chocolate Babka in several Hudson Valley publications, coming here, had to happen. Located in Downtown Kingston (the Rondout Waterfront District), this was a nice breather while hubs submitted some paperwork for his realty side hustle. Whether you're looking for a power breakfast, lunch, a Chai, lemonade, Hot Cocoa, Turkish Tea, coffee, or a place to just unwind a bit, Half Moon's got you covered. While some cafes are treasured for the food, others are vibe-forward. Half Moon, is a bit of both. This space is large with hardwood floors, a powerful brick wall, a collection of framed art on the opposite wall, sitting nooks and two green rustic wooden communal tables. Overhead menu lists egg sandwiches+other items, drinks while their covered shelf, includes muffins and other pastries. My cranberry muffin was good and reminded me of a muffin I could get from those coffee/bagel/muffin carts in NYC. I came, conquered and picked up a chocolate babka loaf for home. Do know it's $30. But believe- if you're a chocolate fiend, this is for you. Kaira has a tremendous warm energy. She even suggested that the Chocolate babka would taste 100 times better if you slice off a piece, melt some butter in a skillet and let it get those brown buttery edges instead of putting it in the toaster oven. That shit tasted good. Thank YOU!

This was our second time visiting while in town a few years apart. The babka is legit, and the donuts are great. The coffee was good, too! It's worth a stop; grab a loaf of babka to go. We were the first customers through the door right at opening, and the service was excellent.

Best fresh powdered sugar donuts ever!! Highly recommend stopping in. Nice atmosphere and very helpful and friendly staff. The Lo and the Caramel Latte were excellent also.

A wonderful café! Great coffees and delicious sandwiches. I had the egg, cheese with hash brown on Texas Toast. This was decadent and comforting. Another stand out are their fresh hot single donuts- with sugar or not. Both are YUM. Their staff is friendly and accommodating. The overall vibe of the café is relaxed. Cool décor. Indoor & outdoor seating. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

What a great little shop! My partner and I have stopped in downtown Kingston a few times but never got a chance to make it to this area. Now we know better! Upon entering we were greeted by such friendly staff. The donuts here are made to order and thus, super fresh, 100% worth the wait since they literally make it when you order it. We wanted something savory/more filling as well so we tried the bacon egg and cheese on toast and it was excellent- tasted like a grilled cheese. We also tried the chocolate babka and rainbow cookie. Everything was perfect. The shop is small but they do have some bar style seating. Highly recommend and cannot wait to come back!

Vegan Chocolate Babka $25 So Good!! Freezes well too

Vegan Chocolate Babka?! Wow. That's next level awesome, and it tastes like there's zero difference from regular babka- amazingness. (I am a non-vegan who tries vegan dishes.) Apparently it's also baked in a totally separate allergy-free facility as well for those who are extra sensitive to certain issues. Retail staff went out of the way to strike up extra friendly conversation and connection as well, which is really going the extra mile to make people feel welcome, and is much appreciated as a visitor. Cute shop with lots of items to browse, most of the seating is outside, which is tricky in winter, but good for bringing dogs if you can hitch them to the fence while you order inside.

As you can see I couldn't wait to take a picture of the donuts .... It was that good The kids that work there had the most amazing attitude and behavior for teenagers and being from NYC, my my ... I say no more. The kids that work here had such a great attitude it was refreshing. My donut was cooked through, not over cooked and still crunchy on the outside. Being a baker myself I am all too aware that just 1 minute can mean overcooking your baked goods. The owner runs a successful show here and the place isn't overpriced! I LOVE it
