One of the few places open on an early Tuesday morning. Easy to miss, as the cafe looks more like a house with a garden than a place to eat. Inside, plenty of room with seating at tables and stools along the windows. Kept it light by ordering a Pumpkin Muffin ($3) and a Large Coffee ($2ish). Muffin is fantastic - moist inside with a little crust on top from some seeds. Also like that the pumpkin isn't overpowering, since it would have been weird with the coffee. The drink itself is your basic fare, large but not very strong. There seemed to be a book club meeting of some sort that morning, though it didn't affect service. I have such mixed feelings about this place. It definitely has potential but misses the mark a lot on lunch. They seem to be a cafe, a confectionary, a bakery, and a coffee bar. The food is fair and I would say pricey for what it is. A tuna melt was about $10 served between two standard sized pieces of toast and a pickle spear. It would have been nice to offer a side or some greens. Same goes for the mozzarella sandwich served on a small ciabatta roll. The beer burger was decent sized but also no fries, potato salad, greens, or anything. The soups are meh and as good as they sound I would say skip them. To order your food you go up to the counter, make your selections and pay and they give you a sign with a number to place on your table. However, that's only for them to bring you food; you will need to keep checking the separate coffee counter for your drinks and get them yourself. The coffee was decent but the turmeric latte fell flat with very little flavor and not the nice yellow color we usually expect. One of the coffees was in a to go cup with a straw lid and I asked if they could give me another lid for the car since this one was open and the associate taped up the gap with scotch tape and told me that they don't have to go lids so usually just tape it....strange! We also tried the homemade muffins both wild berry and coffee cake and both were very good. As far as atmosphere the place is a dive but not in a cool way. It's a bit run down and tired with mismatched dated furniture and definitely in need of a makeover. There was a guitar and large speakers in the corner so I assume they must feature live music. In the back of the place they have a counter where they sell fancy chocolates and macarons. I assume they must sell a lot because there was quite a variety and while we were there trays of macarons were being brought out from the back and loaded on the shelves. All and all this is a place for healthy style food, decent deserts, and friendly workers that desperately needs a makeover and some tweaks to the dishes and service. It can also get very expensive (we paid over $60 for 3 lunches, drinks, and a few muffins). I gave them 3 stars feeling generous but probably with all things considered it should be 2.5. read more

Hi, my name is Jim & I stopped today at Taste Budd's Cafe in Red Hook NY. I ordered my Aztec Cocoa with extra spice & 2 shots of espresso. It is my favorite drink !!! Delicious. My wife likes the Oatmilk Chai Latte with cinnamon on top, & we always get 2 oatmeal raisin cookies !!! The staff are so friendly & the Barista's I think use magic to make all of our drinks. While in Taste Budd's they always have local art work on display . The current art work is very colorful & happy with Peace and Love as a theme. What a lovely coffeehouse PLUS! It's packed. It's always full of out-of-towners or laptops using wifi. The staff tries to keep laptop campers from taking over entire tables but people can be d!cks. The staff, however, are infinitely helpful and patient- and they have to be. The menu is AWESOME!! Try the pain au chocolat and macarons! They have something for everyone and SO much more. The chocolates are a-mazing! Dare I say they give Krauss' (chocolatier in Saugerties and hands down my fav) a run for their money but the diversity and presentation is exemplary.
