When I entered there were two people chatting with the barista (owner?) and I was hard pressed to order. They were discussing football very strenuously. Little options: no decaf, only one alternative milk choice. I opted for the mocha and I will say it was delicious. I ordered a small and was given a large cup but she explained she ran out of small cups so it's a small size in a large cup. Not an issue, but all of it together left an unpleasant taste. I walked in with no one else in the place. There was no music and one person at the counter on her phone. I asked for a bowl and she very abruptly expressed that she was only doing a limited menu today, no bowls. She could make an egg and cheese sandwhich and it would be 10 minutes. I said I was willing to come back and ordered the sandwhich. As I stepped away, I watched the woman behind the counter go back to her phone. No wonder the place is always empty. There was NOTHING welcoming about the experience. If I wasn't so darn hungry, I would have said "forget it." The sandwhich itself was really good, and a great price (compared to the rest of uptown Kingston), which I appreciated. She thanked me for coming back for the sandwhich and that was that. The space was beautiful and airy, plants were beautiful, but most of all the coffee was delicious! Their organic brew was smooth and slightly fruity that I could drink it black. I drank it with a bit of whole milk and it was just perfect. Coffee so good and not too far from the hotel we were staying at that as soon as I got ready I wanted to get to uptown for my brew! I guess they appeal to a certain demographic (blue lives), but the vibes and quality are just bad here. Don't go, plenty of better options for coffee in the area. read more

Sadly, I didn't have a great experience here. The owner was friendly to me, but otherwise it was kind of a miss. I got a drink "to stay" and didn't realize it would come in a disposable cup anyway. The food menu is very meaty/paleo; I'm not sure there was anything a vegetarian could eat and definitely nothing vegan. The music was kind of loud. The bathroom was out of paper towels. Just not a great experience. It seems like this is the official coffee stop for the local police; a couple officers stopped in (separately) while I was there and had friendly conversations with the owner before going back to their cars. read more

Adorable corner coffee shop with a cozy feel and amazing morning natural light. The fact that two people who ordered after me were greeted by name and offered their "regular" says a lot about this spot. I'm not sure if they moved or have two locations, but the space I saw the other day was super spacious with a pleasant, minimalist atmosphere. Staff were very nice. I recall I didn't love the coffee before, but aside from that, I'm Ianding on 3 stars because in an area close to NYC with plenty of foodies around, you really should know what a croissant is. Was it a Pillsburgy dough crescent or someone's earnest attempt at a croissant shaped offering? Either way, for me it was spongey and inedible, even after I took it home and tried toasting it. The worst chai I think I've ever had. And I've had some really bad ones. As a travel nurse and advanced road tripper I've tried iced chai from just about every major city, but more frequently small town coffee shops around the country. I'm not saying this to sound entitled, I'm saying it so that if you are a chai lover you should beware!! After living in California for 6 years I would call this more of a white ladies horchata than anything considered even remotely Indian. It is simply milk, sugar, and cinnamon.. there are no other spices or flavors present in this drink, not even subtly. I'm not sure there is even tea in it? When the drink was being made I watched the barista pour (and this is no exaggeration) an entire tablespoon of cinnamon on top of the drink. I asked if I could get mine without the cinnamon on top, the owner scoffed at me and said well this is how it comes. Perhaps a dash, sure. Keep in mind this is a 7$ 12oz cup of ice milk so I felt that wasn't a crazy ask. Meanwhile I'm here on a coffee date with my mom just trying to have a nice time. There was no friendliness or even a smile, the vibe was simply not there. Bare minimum setup, no charm. Nothing giving you a reason to come back. And there's an ac directly above the door with a stream of old condensed water that you have to walk through in able to get in and out of the cafe... I brought the drink home to my husband and he agrees. Really bad horchata.. save your money and go to a better local spot where the workers are nice, happy to have your business, and the chai is legit! read more

Came upstate for Valentine's Day weekend with my fiancé and wanted to stop by to grab a local coffee. Uptown coffee certainly did not let me down. Small coffee shop, places to sit inside, covid precautions in place, the gentleman behind the counter was pleasant, and the place itself has a great vibe to it. I popped into Uptown Coffee to grab a quick pick-me-up midday while on an out of town work trip.. super cute interior, very welcoming decor & music. Coffee is affordable and I was very happy with my skinny caramel latte. My coworker got an oat milk mocha cappuccino (the didn't have a soy option- just an FYI) and enjoyed it as well! Next time I'm back in town, I look forward to posting up at this shop with a coffee and my laptop on their beautiful leather couch just off to the side as you walk in :) oh- they also have free WiFi. Great service during covid! The midweek breakfast options in Kingston during covid are lacking but uptown coffee became our oasis for warmth, great breakfast sandwiches and delicious coffee. This is definitely a place to grab a coffee and a pastry and chill for a bit while working or reading. I tried the Uptown Girl and found it quite tasty. Interesting student coffee shop. Bleach-blond girls and scruffy Paul Bunyons, make this Kingston's Cali equivalent of a board and brew place. Seating offered in lit room in back. Got here end of a work day, they were out of cream, sugar and stirrers. However location on Wall Street great! Sat outside and relaxed. Staff try hard to please. Coffee is very potent, lots of great nut flavors. Even the lawyers know where to go for taste. Will return again.. read more

I went into Uptown Coffee for a business meeting with 5 other people who were meeting me there. All of us were planning on spending several hours at the shop, working, and buying lots of coffee and food for the duration. As I brought my laptop and papers in to prepare for the meeting, I also had about 1/4 of a cup of coffee left to quickly finish that I bought from Bread Alone in Woodstock about an hour earlier. As I sat down and gathered my things, less than 2 minutes later the owner came over and INSISTED on pouring my cup of coffee from bread alone into a branded cup from Uptown Coffee, her reasoning was because if someone would happen to walk by and see me drinking out of another cup (which by the way with my hand covering the logo would be nearly impossible to notice or read from any distance), they would be so ashamed and would never come into Uptown Coffee. At first I agreed, but after thinking about it I realized how ridiculous the question was, and I said 'no thank you' I would rather just finish my cup quickly and then buy one of theirs. The owner would just not accept this at all, INSISTING that either I throw out the coffee or put it into another cup or I could leave. So I cancelled my business meeting and told everyone to go to another coffee shop down the street instead where we could work without being controlled by the owner. In all honestly, I felt very bullied over something that was so small and strange that I felt very uncomfortable being there. Over the years I've supported their business many, many times, and have told people to go there as well. But after this weird, strange bully decided I wasn't worthy, I've never been back since, and I don't ever plan to. They absolutely lost my business forever, as well as the people I work with. read more

My standards for what is great coffee are very simple: if on the first sip the coffee doesn't rip the enamel off your teeth, it's just ok. The UC staff are nice and coffee pro's but, the coffee isn't strong enough and it doesn't have a noticeable smell or flavor that tells you that it's from UC Three stars read more

This place is officially my favorite coffee spot in kingston alongside with grounded. They have home made pastries and amazing flavorful coffee drinks. Not only that but the service is quick and extremely friendly. Lately I have become a regular at this place and it's amazing being able to get a smile from at least one person at 7 a.m. The only thing that would make this place even better would be a wide range of different coffees not just your regular "American" coffee.
