If the only person I interacted with today was Sherri, this would be a 1-star review. Thanks to management and other employees, it's not. Thank them for the 5-star review; they earned it. Today I came in to return a $90 car battery charger I hadn't used. My wife's car wouldn't start, and I bought the charger as a backup plan. It turned out the people helping her jump the car weren't attaching the cables correctly; once done right, the battery was fine. Since I didn't need the charger and the receipt didn't list it as non-refundable, I went to return it. I had opened the box only to check the plug type--a reasonable step given the time-sensitive situation with our work schedules and childcare needs. I walked into ACE asking to return the item and was immediately met with a dismissive "NO" from Sherri. Even after I explained it was unused, she was apathetic. She insisted they don't accept returns on that item regardless, telling me, "You're just gonna have to keep what you bought... I'm sure you'll eventually use it." She seemed astounded I'd even ask. Frustrated, I checked my receipt, saw no such policy, and went back in to inquire further. Sherri was visibly annoyed. As a melanated man in my 30s dealing with her combative approach, I couldn't help but wonder if my physical appearance or demographic played into her refusal to provide basic customer service. While I can't factually know her intent, her behavior made that thought unavoidable. At this point, a kind gentleman named Rick stepped in. While Sherri scoffed and dismissed my request to him, Rick actually listened. He took the step Sherri never did: he scanned the item. **It was, in fact, return-eligible.** Rick called for the manager, Josh, who was also reasonable and professional. After I explained the situation, Josh granted the refund. Josh is a fantastic manager and Rick is a remarkable employee who understands empathy. They get 7 stars each, which averages out the 1-star I'd give Sherri to a 5-star total. To the owners: be thankful for Rick and Josh. While Sherri might have thought she was "doing her job," Rick proved she wasn't doing it correctly. If he hadn't stepped in, I would have walked away thinking the store had an unreasonable policy, simply because she didn't bother to check. I'm not looking to retaliate; the business rating is permanent and I don't want to hurt the rest of the team. But Sherri needs to know what her coworkers did differently. Some customers wouldn't have asked for a second opinion--they would have just walked out and left a 1-star review. I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt that it was a bad day rather than prejudice, but she needs retraining on how to handle these situations. Thank you to the team members who actually put in the effort to solve my issue and set the right example. This store is fantastic because of people like Rick and Josh. read more

When attempting to return a flashlight that I bought the day prior and it was not the one I wanted, I was denied and was told that they don't refund any of their items unless there was something wrong with it when it clearly states on their receipt " We will fix, replace it or refund your purchase, Your receipt is all you need." Very surprising for a company like ACE. read more

Ace is the place. I can't get over that jingle, but here in Sedona, Ace is two places. The second one is in the Village of Oak Creek. This store is just as deceptive as the one in Sedona. It has a cute little arched promenade in the front, and it looks like a tiny store on the outside. Inside it is packed to the ceiling. Oh, look up! There are interesting things hanging from the ceiling, too. What you see is what you get. If it's in stock, it's on the shelves. The back room is another room and then another room, inventory is everywhere. Don't forget to look in the basement, too. Somehow the impulse buy sections at Ace stores grab my attention like no other chain. Here I bought some interesting candy that resembled granola bars, but it's organic and fruity. And it falls apart, so unwrap it slowly as you go. read more

First the positive, Got key copies made this morning and young man was helpful and personable. Checkout lady also very personable. 5 stars for them The negative, I parked in open (between the white lines) parking space next to back bullpen area to pick up items from there. When I came out I had orange cones placed in front and behind my car. I removed the rear cone to leave and got major attitude from a young man - long blonde hair. told "you cant park next to dumpsters" ok fine... but as I was leaving he said "I guess we need to put a huge sign to say no parking in that spot" no smart a**... ANY no parking sign in that spot will do! read more

THIS POST WAS REMOVED ON FACEBOOD AND I WOULD LIKE A RESPONSE TO IT. I AM A CUSTOMER AND I HAVE A QUESTION - WHY DON'T YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE PEOPLE WEAR MASKS TO PROTECT YOUR CUSTOMERS? I prefer shopping at Ace Hardware stores because they are locally owned. I stopped by the Ace Hardware in the Village of Oak Creek and noticed a number of things. The store is one of the smaller Ace stores I have been in the the aisles are rather narrow. When I went in most all of the customers were wearing masks. None of the employees were and none were paying attention to social distancing. When I asked the cashier - who was behind a clear plastic shield - why none of the employees were wearing a mask to protect themselves and the public she said it wasn't required. At this time when quite a few of the people who live in Sedona and the Village of Oak Creek are over 50 and more susceptible to the pandemic I think it would be very good customer service and health service to mandate masks for the employees. They are for sale right in front of the cashier. The cashier informed me that they have curbside service - that is great when you know exactly what you want and what is available most people do not and it isn't like a grocery store with a selection process on a website. I - like most of the customers wear masks because we do not want to get or give covid19. It would be excellent customers service for Ace to have their employees wear them. read more

Picked up a couple of whirling hanging art pieces with a wind home over the weekend. The prices were very good for Sedona. We had driven by on a way to hiking spot but I didn't catch the name, I was frustrated the search engines for the area wouldn't bring them up as an Ace Hardware store! I really like this store. I recently moved to the area and went inside to find the friendliest staff. They are always asking,to help you find what you need, give advice or carry your items. They also have an automotive section for your everyday car care needs. Its nice to see these small hardware stores still around. They are probably my favorite store in the area. read more
