This is my go to nursery! To be honest I come frequently just to walk around and admire what is in season. Why not? Higher frequency from the plant and tree kingdom is not a bad idea. The items I've purchased have always out lived there expectancy and have grown tremendously. The staff is always within eye distance if I ever have a question. Some knowledgeable and if others aren't so knowledgeable they communicate to other staff get the answer. All in a nutshell this is the best value over the larger box stores. They guarantee their plants once purchased. Premium quality grade. They carry some Non-GMO. As well as native plants and herbs. Offer care tips. They even teach classes!! I purchased two plants about a week ago. They were the same variety and I treated them exactly the same in terms of watering and placement, where I was keeping them until my landscape crew could put them in the ground. I noticed that one of the plants was doing very well while the other appeared to be dying, so I took them both back to Verde River Growers to request a replacement for the sick plant. When I showed the employees the two plants and requested a replacement for the dying plant, I was given a bunch of excuses about why the sick one wasn't eligible for replacement even though it was clearly defective. So now I know--Verde River Growers does not stand behind its products. read more

Did I like this place until now? The answer is yes but I never had to use their published warranty. I also tried to give them one mire chance before writing this review by trying to speak with the General Manager lindesy curé but to no avail. Between my wife being an interior designer and real estate remodeler and me being a real estate broker and real estate investor, we have used the services of verde river growers and also recommending them many times. We have spent over $60,000 on just tree and plant purchases for our own projects through our landscaping architects in the last few years. On this occasion we had purchased 6 trees worth around $900. 4 of them died within a short time. The warranty is supposed to cover them. We took them back and that is when the interrogation began: how deep did you plant, what direction, how much water, his much sun, what brand of soil, etc.. I kept saying that the other 2 are in the exact area and thriving. I finally after being patient for 20 minutes i told them we have an appointment and need to leave. The manager came and said he can do me a favor by crediting us for 2 of the trees. I told him i do not compromise and need him to honor the warranty. He asked if we can go inside so he proceed with the credit. I took my daughter to see the plants as my wife stayed with the plants in order to get the credit. When we came back, the manager said I have compromised and given you credit for 3 trees. I was dumbfounded that over $80 they were trying to ignore our patronage and their warranty. I still have not heard back from the general manager. read more

The folks here are very knowledgeable, the selection is fantastic and the prices are very fair. I totally recommend this place for your landscaping needs. I went in and told them I needed to fill an area where I'm replacing my grass and I like succulents. They designed a whole package for me in 10 minutes. What an amazing place! We drove there from Prescott Valley, because the nurseries locally are very limited with their plants. This nursery has acres, and acres of beautiful trees plants, shrubs, and anything that you would want for your garden. They were very helpful and knowledgeable about different things. We wanted to plant a tree, and they suggested we wait until fall, because the heat would more than likely kill any tree that's planted right now. I worked here for two weeks a while ago. I'm writing this to help offset the weirdos who think that plants should magically grow and thrive in Arizona without extreme measures being taken. VRG water all their plants with specially balanced nutrient rich water and use shade and high-humidity so when you take plants home and set them in a rocky hole in full sun with over-watering and then no-watering... they will die. Most of their staff in the summer months is watering all day, every day. As far as customer service goes it may be hard to get one of the more experienced staff because people come in expecting every staff member to be aware of every aspect of every plant they have. They have hundreds of varieties and tens-of-thousands of plants. They are either super-busy or not busy at all so if you have complicated questions and need your hand held call before you go and ask if they are swamped. The plants I've bought here have always done better for me than home depot because the suppliers for HD use closed greenhouses and artificial nutrients that don't build any tolerance or health into their plants. DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU GO PLANT SHOPPING. read more

The atmosphere has changed so much now. The once "friendly, helpful employees" are almost all gone. I'm guessing that management had to lay off many employees, then told the remainder that they would have to work twice as hard and fast to keep their jobs. So of course, they don't have much time left for helping customers. This is a challenge that affects almost every business that stays open. And almost every other business in Cottonwood has done a better job of handling it. They still rate two stars because there is still a pretty good inventory. But you better be able to find what you're looking for on your own. read more

I was very surprised to see how many positive reviews this business has gotten for their customer service. Each time I've been there I have been treated rudely while other customers were being courteously offered help. Apparently they're selective about who gets good service and who doesn't. I've been sitting on this review for a few years because my rating of Verde River Growers changes a bit and I enjoy checking the place out! In the past year with the uptick in business during the pandemic things haven't seemed to get any better. They put the least knowledgeable employees up front to answer all your questions and if you buy a plant they deem difficult, well depending on the person it can be frustrating to say the least! There are lots of great and even hard to find plants but there are alot of less desirables such as their stone fruit selection. Elberta is a good average peach but nothing to get excited about considering the improved varieties that have been flooding the market the past few decades. At times I may be in several times a week and I will admit that I'm a little hard to read but I try to treat everyone with the respect I want to be treated with. Money or not I doubt anyone in the office would care if one of their customers stop buying from them except for maybe the reason of lost revenue. For me I've been buying from other nurseries and even online ones as I can find better elsewhere, since my last few visits haven't been all that pleasant. I've been following the growth of their seed grown pecan trees as their grafted trees two years ago did exactly as mine over the winter. They died down below the graft and they may even still have some of those somewhere out on the line. I hadn't ordered any this year as I was promised in the summer once they rooted some would be available. When I finally checked on the status they weren't selling any because they were moving them up in size but when I went out and ran into someone I know that works there I found out that wasn't true. They had put some out but I missed out. So that's on me but lying isn't and the fact I've been asking about them for the past year along with having been told time after time that I could buy or they would save one for me. It's been one month and I had one die and my Foetida roses have not yet gotten a bud. All of the plants I bought here have very little roots and do not mature. They were a wholesale grower and still practice quantity over quality. read more

Good healthy plants. Often the one gallons are on the small size but the prices make up for that. Great selection although they have issues sometimes with labeling them correctly or labeling them at all. The help also has a problem admitting when they don't know something and will try to steer you wrong. Also way too late on the summer veggies, they seem to not understand that many garden enthusiasts have greenhouses. It's March 27 and they STILL don't have 4 inch heirloom tomatoes although they're available from other growers. I refuse to support the Home Depot. Next year I'll start my own from seed. read more

Just want to say THANK YOU to Lindsey for working with me. I bought some juniper shrubs here a few months ago and despite basic care and watering, they all died shortly after. I'm not a rocket scientist but I do know a bit about basic plant biology/needs and was dissapointed that native plants for this area did so poorly despite following regular care. (And the larger shrubs are about $20 each so buying 5 of them really adds up.) Although they do not typically offer a plant guarantee/refund/exchange like Home Depot does (they'll take back any dead plant within one year no questions asked if you have your receipt and bring it in), she was kind enough to work with me and replace the dead shrubs with new ones at a discounted rate. It was likely due to planting them just before it really got hot and not enough water percolating through the soil, so she gave me some more tips for plant success and I hope this go round will prove more successful. I appreciate their customer service and would happily go back since they worked to make it right. Thank you! read more
