There is a variety of parking we managed to snag a lot along side the restaurant. Restaurant looks brand new - like it was just renovated. It took awhile for someone to notice us as we stood at the host desk. Everyone was bustling around minding their own business. I think we stood there for about 8 minutes or so. Finally someone acknowledged us and seated us. Our server was pretty good he brought us the drinks pretty quickly. I ordered unsweetened ice tea. We did wait awhile for our meal. It was a busy day. Hubby ordered 2-2 combo. I ordered cod fish sandwich. His food came he pretty much liked it but felt that his pancakes had been sitting for awhile. But still good and he finished his plate For me, my fries were not piping hot and oversalted. The brioche bun look good but appears to have been over toasted- it was hard. The saving grace was the cod fish. It was nicely crisp. And flakey on the inside. Overall for me... a 3.5 And since I can't put half numbers I'll give it a 4 still Will I be back? TL;DR: good food but suffers with table wait times, service attention, and a new trend to be a less friendly environment for kids. My wife, two kids (ages 7 and 9), and I went to this location sometime ago to get a nice brunch in before our daily errands. To our surprise the place was able to get us a seat really quickly without a wait! This uncharacteristic of this location and we usually avoid it because of the lines. We immediately noticed the remodel both inside and out. It looked fresh, clean, and very bright. A big makeover from the past and I feel it gives it a brighter younger feel. One blight on the new remodel is that we were informed of the owner's decision to not have crayons or any coloring/writing utensils for our children to play with. It was indicated that they didn't want to run the risk of having kids color the walls. While understandable it does make the place feel a little less family friendly. Unfortunately, The service we had wasn't the best. Quite often we found ourselves waiting for refills, waiting for missed ordered items, or waiting even to receive our check and pay. The server was friendly and accommodating and purely situational. I attribute it to the late morning rush and the influx of large groups coming in (that day we saw tables of 10+ people!) The food was good. Everything was cooked right: moist buttermilk pancakes; eggs to the correct temperature and as ordered; sausages and bacon perfect; and even the fruit was prime fresh. The only thing to be aware of is the has browns are cooked with a flat iron on the flat top making them very thick and cake like. My favorite spot to eat breakfast and other dishes since 1980's. I am 77 and still try to make it there for my favorites around every 2 weeks. In all these years I have seldom walked out of my favorite spot unhappy with almost anything. When I have specific comments or requests, they are always on top of it right away. Once in a great while, I will run into a glitch but it is ironed out to my satisfaction right away. Yes, sometimes things may not be up to par, but by and large VI does a great job for me. read more

Village Inn is like crawling under a favorite blanket to watch a movie. It is warm, comforting and a familiar old friend. You don't go there to be blown away by culinary wizardry, you go there to be home. This Village Inn is exactly what you expect and that is not a bad thing in any way. The food was good and hearty as it always is. They got my special order (brown gravy on the chicken fried steak) correct. And all the food was perfect. But I do want to shed a tear for the old style that was Village Inn. This location just got a makeover, I am seeing it all around at other Village Inns too. It is a down right shame. I LOVED the old 50s kitsch style inside of Village Inns. It was one of my favorite aspects of going into one. I even commented on multiple occasions that it would be amazing to have a kitchen and dining room so eclectically decorated..... but sadly the new era of Village Inn seems to be to rip out any soul the dining room once had and replace it with a sterile white blandness that kind of leaves you feeling hollowed out inside. While this look is clean and crisp for something like unboxing a new iPhone, it is empty and depressing when applied to the feeling of what used to be an inviting and comforting space. You may say I am too emotionally dedicated to the ambiance of a diner, but that was the very soul of Village Inn. I will miss it! Last thoughts, our server was great and we got right in. But it was Father's Day (my choice for where we ate) and we waited over 50 minutes after we ordered to get our food. On 02/25/24, my friends and I went to this Villiage Inn and when we didn't get a menu with the Birthday Cake pancakes our waitress brought us them for free. Her name is Chelsea and she is the nicest waitress I've ever had anywhere. She deserves the world. read more

Went here with 5 people wanting to eat, and the man told us there would be a 15-20 minute wait. That was fine, but he was rude and unimpressive. We asked the man if we could just sit in a booth because we were hungry and he was a douche about it and wouldn't look at us as we spoke to him. We went to use the restroom and it was dirty. The toilet was not clean and the walls looked grimy. As we were getting out food, we watched out waitress touch our food without gloves on. The people in the back were not wearing hair nets or hats. People where getting seated before us that came after said something and they tried to say yeah we called for Terry I said no it's right there Troy we then got seated yea was sour eggs where not cocked right the the manager was a condescending ass hole to be nice. He came by asked how the food is so I told him what was wrong he then looks at me and says well I'll just pay for your food since you aren't happy and you won't ever be happy. Really seriously??? Have been to this location any number of times in the past and would have gladly given it five stars. Just dined there last night and it was ATROCIOUS. From the fact there was no one seating people, even though the restaurant was practically empty, to the completely unwarranted and unwelcome ATTITUDE of the waitress, who felt it necessary to argue with us about everything from whether she was taking our full order or just our drink order, to arguing about WHAT we ordered and then to argue that we hadn't mentioned a senior discount at time of ordering - plus my food wasn't that good. It was a simple club sandwich; not sure how you screw that up but when Miss 'Tude said "I suppose you want that on white bread?" and didn't offer any other alternative, I just went with it. Had plenty of time to notice dried food spots and dirt on the walls at our booth, plus a very Gestapo-sounding sign that only allowed one person at a time in the restroom [too bad, when ya gotta go, ya gotta go]. I don't understand how a place can go downhill so bad when it was literally shut down for several months due to COVID but I can take my business elsewhere. Because I don't care for dinner with a side of nasty attitude, which was completely unwarranted and uncalled for. I should probably have left ZERO tip; instead I felt leaving a $3.68 tip on a $40 tab should have got the point across. I usually tip 25%; this wasn't even 10%. Earlier in the day at another restaurant I had left a 25% tip, so I'm not a cheapskate; I just think you need to earn a tip. And when the first words out of your mouth to your table of customers is snide, nasty and downright RUDE, your tip is going to come down for every mistake you make. And on top of winning Miss Uncongeniality, she also forgot items and had to make several trips back to the table, which quite obviously made her even madder at US. Won't be back. Corporate might as well go ahead and shut this place down; in the 75 minutes we were there, no other customers came in and the few that were in there when we arrived had already left. Been coming to village inn since the 80s and this location I believe is a bit newer then the one I grew up going to. You will almost always without a doubt be politely welcomed & greeted when you arrive and they try to seat you promptly . I love that they still have booths, something nostalgic for me about that. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner any time and still offer a free slice of pie every Wednesday. While I appreciate their menu I have tried many things in the past and now I have my go to orders. I always get either the Spinach and Bacon Omelette with hash browns & pancakes. Or my other favorite is the Grown Up Grilled cheese because it's got tons of different cheeses, tomato, bacon, & cheesy Parmesan crusted bread. Their selection of pies has some that stay the same as well as seasonal pies and holiday favorites that cycle through. I love the Strawberry Rhubarb, Triple Berry and the Holiday French Silk for Christmas. Order your pies in advance for pick up in time for holidays!! Great 'diner style' food that serves breakfast from open to close. Kids eat free on Monday and Tuesday, which is always a plus and they have a huge selection of breakfast items. Plus, they have lunch and dinner items as well like burgers and sandwiches, but I rarely get those. I mostly just go for the traditional breakfast fair which actually I love to eat for dinner! The kids love it, and its easy to see why, they have something for everyone. Don't forget about Free slice of Pie Wednesday, which is awesome. On that note, their pie is not the best I have had, but not the worst. Some are better then others. Personally, I love a old fashioned apple pie, or their French silk. Both tasty options. read more

We are visiting from out of state. Reviews were good, but they'd been good for Hi-Way Diner as well and that was god-awful. Thankfully we really enjoyed the Village Inn. The modern/retro decor is simple and fun, not kitschy. We ordered diner standards - the patty melt and the reuben. Both were exactly as they should be. The only comments we had were wishing there was more kraut on hers and more onion on mine, but that's just personal preference. Prices are standard for a chain diner. They have a huge breakfast menu, 3 burgers, maybe 5 sandwiches, and a page of dinner diner fare plus a dozen types of pie. Oh, and all-you-can-eat fish on Friday evenings. We received good service, very friendly and prompt. If we returned, we would probably return here. And we'd recommend it. read more

Hey, it's Village Inn. One thing about this chain is consistency. Although, one time I stopped at the VI in Columbus, Nebraska and they had run out of pancake mix!!! I digress ... This VI is in my neighborhood and I stop in mid morning once in a while. I'm always seated immediately; I like the half booth. My "usual" is the California skillet. The restaurant is clean, decor is simple/updated, and all the staff we have interacted with in the past three visits have been professional, efficient, and friendly. The food has been great! My husband and I loved Village Inn until they closed the one by us, so we haven't been to one in awhile. We were by the Village Inn on S. 27th today and decided to eat dinner there. We waited to be seated for about 5 minutes before the manager, Brian Mellick, finally walked over to seat us. He got us our drinks and left. We sat in our booth for approx. 35 minutes before the waitress came over to take our order, which was about 15 minutes after she took the order of the people in the booth next to us, who sat down 10 minutes after we did. We realize restaurants are short-staffed and were prepared to wait but when this happened, we decided to let the waitress know and informed her to get our ticket for the drinks and we would be leaving. It took several more minutes to get the ticket (we were charged $6.60 for coffee and an ice tea) and while she was getting our change, which took several more minutes, the people in the booth next to us got their meal. Walking in the door and walking out the door took approximately 50 minutes. Thoroughly disgusted, we left and went to Appleby's, where the service was great, the meal was fantastic, and we were in and out in 45 minutes. read more

During the day shift the food was excellent and our waitress was very pleasant. Food was delivered quickly and well cooked. Unfortunately the host was rude and abrasive. She was incapable of finding my party and I a table. When we walked in she didn't even offer us a hello. Whilst eating I was also able to hear the host talking very poorly about our waiter to customers. Our waiter was very nice and offered perfect service. When we finished our meal we went to pay and the same host made us wait for about ten minutes while she talked to someone before even acknowledging that we were waiting to pay. The meals here are good and coffee is excellent. We always come for Wednesday's free pie day too. I am writing this less than stellar review because I feel they made a critical mistake with their strawberry crepes. The VIB deal was shown with two rolled strawberry crepes. What I received was two crepes layered together (nothing between them)and folded into a bundle with 1 cut up strawberry (at most) in the center with the ricotta cheese as the thickest part. Strawberry syrup made-up the rest. This is lazy and cheap presentation. So, do not order this plate, unless you don't want the fruit. read more

We were so disappointed this Thanksgiving. The pies we received were horrible. The apple pie was more juice then apples and our French Silk pie was awful. The whipped cream on top didn't even look like whipped cream a tasted terrible. The Crust wasn't good on either one. They must of change who makes the pies because they were so bad we won't get our Christmas pies from them or any other again. We actually threw our French silk away. This is the worst Village Inn I've ever been to in my life. I just moved to Lincoln and have visited this location four times now, since it's close to my apartment. Each time, it takes forever to be seated, no matter how slow or busy the restaurant is at the time. The hostess, an older lady, flails about and wigs out if there's more than 2 people waiting. She disappears for a long time, cleans off tables herself instead of letting the busboys do their job, and ignores empty tables all around. It shouldn't take an hour to seat 15 people who comprised 4 tables. Once I was seated, it took over 45 minutes for my food to arrive each time I visited - and the restaurant wasn't even busy. In addition, the servers are terrible. They disappear for 20 minutes at a time, don't smile, are apathetic, and just don't care whether you're having a good dining experience or not. Finally, even the clerk ringing up people's checks gets overwhelmed and is slow, causing a line of people waiting to pay to form while she talks, runs to the kitchen, and generally seems inept.
