Rudest Manager Ever. Mediocre food. I have eaten there many times over the years, but today was the worst. I have spent at least $3000 there total. I have rarely been able to get my eggs prepared the way I order them, slightly runny yolks with hard (in other words, not raw) whites. I used to be able to order eggs "over medium", but, with their new hand-held computer ordering system, it has become impossible. Apparently, the only egg choices now are "raw", "medium-raw", or "hard." Today, I had to send eggs back twice. The first time, the egg whites were very runny, resembling water. I sent them back and asked that I get hard-cooked eggs. The second serving came out in about 30 seconds and the eggs were not hard-cooked. They appeared to have been microwaved which would explain the 30 second preparation. The third time, the irritating little manager came over and told me they don't microwave their eggs and gave me more "medium" eggs. He was argumentative, surly, unprofessional, and rude. He was not interested in finding out what happened or hearing my side of the story. His mind was made up when he approached the table. I asked him to comp the meal and he refused. I walked out and will never go back there. In fairness, the servers have always been exceptional and they deserve better management than this little creep. We regret not stopping in for the last 2 years! From the moment we came through the door, every staff member has been friendly with a smile. Our server, Serena, was exceptional. She added to our already great dinner experience. We had the lemon chicken dish, but without the pilaf, and subbed another vegetable. They ser e fresh green beans, which is our weakness. This dish was such a pleasant surprise! The chicken was quite perfectly cooked, the toppings grilled and went together so well with the lemon sauce. Lemon wedge squeezed finished it just right. Such a simple dish of chicken, spinach, artichoke heart, and tomato ... done well, it is hard to beat. We will come back for that dish again, if nothing else. We live a keto meal plan, so didn't try their many pies this time. The manager was talking really loud to the kitchen staff .... to tell them how well the dis this shift, and encouraged them. Big points from us. Another served was sweeping the carpet nearby ... when she got close to us, she stopped and asked if we minded her sweeping nearby!! We were thrilled at that, most never even acknowledge diners ... of course we didn't mind (food not there yet). Give it a try. Purchased 2 pies for Thanksgiving without a reservation. When i got there they had a back room full of pies reserved and first come first served. They were friendly and very efficient. Well, I checked and the other 2 sites I review with had my first review of Village Inn from Nov 2017. So. In the last year - 5 visits. 3 different times I ordered meatloaf. Dry on top- Ketchup skin shows it clearly. Broccoli is about 1/3 cooked - even the tiny buds on top still firm and the entire thing COLD. Every meal has been a sad disappointment to what this franchise USED to be! Staff - I'm not fond at all. Smart ass for a shift mngr and if the waitress every tries to walk up again telling my grandkids to get busy eating - she's going to see just why my family has called me Sargent for so long. It has great look - it's an illusion. Period. Won't be back. The pies are nice - but I can buy frozen ones myself and bake. read more

Christmas light viewing and a stop in for a bathroom break resulting in dinner. What caught my attention was mounds of pot roast and potatoes on peoples plates! Thinking I was going to get a good portion size I ordered the meatloaf and mashed potatoes. The kitchen kept messing up our order, or not adding things which was weird since all we had was the meatloaf and a 2+2+2 breakfast which was just eggs, bacon, and pancakes. Final after 45 minutes we get our food. Conner our server was great and the reason for the extra star. My meatloaf was seriously about 4 ounces or the size of a small potato, and a small serving of mashed potatoes. The meatloaf wasn't great and the potatoes tasted instant. Luckily my wife had an extra pancake for me. The meatloaf seemed a little high at $11 for such a small serving. It was also a little annoying to hear explicit rap music being blasted in the kitchen area since my child could hear it. Our server was very apologetic about our wait time, and offered the wife and I a free slice of pie. Went there for dinner this evening arrived about 4:30 p.m. . Still at the door for about 4 or 5 minutes while the employees were busy having a conversation. Once seated we were given our menus took our drink order everything was nice and cozy. We asked what pies were available we were told just Apple. We ordered quite a bit of food. The roast beef platter came out was ice cold a single side of grits was ice cold. And the salad that was ordered as a side dish wasn't delivered till after we asked for it. Tried the new crepes and was told one wasn't in stock they didn't have the proper ingredients for the strawberry shortcake. Asked another waitress about the pies and was informed of about six different type that were available. So we were able to get our pies. But anything that was served with girls onions was actually served with mostly roll like this chicken fried steak Skillet and the patty melt at raw onions. So if you're not too picky about the food you received this would be a good place for you but after spending $80 I can honestly say the Nutella banana crepe was absolutely delicious. And the roast beef I was told was very nice and tender only cold. So as I said if you're not too picky about where you spend your money you may enjoy going here I for one will never return read more

I had never been to a Village Inn and thought I would try this location for lunch. I chose the Turkey dinner with a side of cole slaw and was a little surprised when it was served. The person who dropped off my food wasn't the waitress that I had ordered from. The turkey slices were chopped up into tiny chunks and mixed with the cornbread stuffing. The coleslaw wasn't delivered with my meal. When my waitress returned she asked if I had gotten my coleslaw and I responded no. I decided to switch to an order of mashed potatoes instead (I thought this came with the turkey dinner, but was told no). The food tasted fine, but the service was disjointed... at one point my waitress brought me a glass of iced tea and then another server brought me another within two minutes! It was free pie Wednesday when I dined here, so I got a free slice of pie... I chose Cherry pie and it was good and a nice way to finish my meal. read more

Ugh. Sorry about how long this is, but... Ugh. Here's the deal. My friends and I go to the south side Village Inn almost every single Wednesday for free pie day. We go an hour before it ends and we often end up having an alarmingly large group, which inherently makes us an unfavorable sort of clientele, but this whole thing wasn't warranted. This past Wednesday, the south side location was completely sold out of pie, so we hopped over to the Glenstone one. There were about nine of us, but we were seated immediately and our server was efficient (and a little bossy, but I don't blame anyone for wanting to take charge with a large table, necessarily). Since I hadn't had dinner that night, I decided to skip the free pie and shoot straight for a meal. I finally went with a menu option in which you could pick four items for $8. Because I'm addicted to starchy foods and because it just sounded good, I went with wheat toast, "country" potatoes (basically, french fries diced up into cubes... HOW IMAGINATIVE), a biscuit with gravy, and cinnamon apples. I don't know, guys. I was having some cravings, okay? It was all... well, it was horrible. The potatoes were not the seasoned breakfast morsels I was expecting; the toast was soggy with butter; and the cinnamon apples were more like three shriveled slices suspended in a yellow, gelatinous something. But what can I really expect from a family breakfast chain conglomerate around closing time? What can I really expect from the order I made? I'm almost more angry at myself. I have regrets. While the meal was a toxic disappointment, the real reason for this review came as we were all waiting to pay our bills. One of the employees at the checkout (not our server) started voicing her truly snide disapproval over a couple we were with showing PDA near the exit and started outright trashing them to another worker in front of us. Not only did this make all of us feel super uncomfortable, but I don't understand why you wouldn't 1) politely request that they stop if it was THAT concerning or 2) wait until the party leaves to make comments. After all, the people that couple were with were standing RIGHT in front of her. After we all awkwardly paid, we noticed nearly the entire wait staff standing in the back openly talking about our group - including our server and the girl at the checkout. Seriously, what gives? Our table was perfectly easy to get along with. Basically, it seemed like most of the workers at this place have so little pride in their work that they're comfortable making customers feel the way we felt, which was an overwhelming desire to not ever go back. read more

Hey you can never go wrong with breakfast. I have become very excited about poached eggs. It's how I judge breakfast. This evening it was cold and foggy and we needed comfort foods. VIB breakfast to the rescue. Two medium poached eggs hash browns bacon with a side of hollandaise sauce and two pancakes how can this ever be wrong? Our server Hannah was s sweet and personable I don't often go to VI in the evenings and I usually steer clear of chain restaurants but this was a really great treat today. I stopped here to pick up some pies as a hostess gift. I called ahead of time and spoke with ONeil who rattled off every available flavor of whole pies that were currently available for purchase. The list was long so I immediately was impressed with his enthusiasm to tell me every flavor. I'm gonna say you get what you pay for. In a good way. This is not the Four Seasons so some others might get funny about having to clarify their order. We came in when it was a little slow and were seated right away. Waitress and hostess were friendly, atmosphere was slightly more relaxed than should be but eventually we got our drinks and after ordering, the food came out pretty quickly. I had the orange blossom crepe with bacon, sausage and hash browns . Hash browns were a little under done but still flavorful and edible. The crepe could have been delivered with slightly less orange sauce. Also had the grown up grilled cheese with fries. Sandwich came out perfect but the seasoning on the fries should be optional. They were promptly replaced. Overall a good experience. I would recommend this for a very casual dining experience. I had a really great time, actually every time I've gone its been a wonderful time, the food was great and the staff was really nice, my biggest problem was probably the wait, the staff was super busy and I understand that but sometimes when business is slower some servers just wait around not doing anything, but that is my experience, this location is on a busy road so I understand its gonna be busy. Another thing is that the person I assume to be the owner, made me really uncomfortable with the way he was acting around some of the female customers. that's me though, they were probably just friends. The Glenstone Ave Village Inn restaurant is usually a good place to eat. However, it wasn't that way on Mothers Day. To serve a large crowd, the cooks took "short cuts" and the "golden brown" hash browns were a light tan on one side and the potatoes underneath were barely done. Their "medium well" eggs were sunny side up -- really runny. I should have sent the items back to the kitchen, but I didn't want to raise a fuss. Often, when a customer is paying his bill, he is asked if everything was all right. That wasn't the case on Mothers Day -- probably because they knew that everything wasn't all right read more
