Submitted for your perusal, a hungry traveler steps through a restaurant door and upon entering is transported back to a time where life is clean, less complicated. A time of when expectation is simple, and it comes with a smile. What meets the eye is 60's ambiance, and it doesn't feel staged. Seating, tables, light fixtures all blend to give you the feel of your small town, main street cafe. A memory from your youth. With that memory comes anticipation of a satisfying hearty meal. Simple straight forward food that'll fill the void and send you back to reality happy, well fed, and wondering if it was all a dream. It isn't a dream folks. The food is indeed hearty and very tasty. There's a lot of it too. You won't go away hungry. My meal was outstandingly delicious. Home cooked to perfection. I was tempted to choose a selection from the dessert display to top off the experience, but my waistline, and my girlfriends side eye moved me in the opposite direction. Next time through Sterling, I'll start with dessert. Quick Tip: Don't wear fancy clothes to the Village Inn. I didn't and was rewarded by getting only one spot on my pants. My chopped steak was so tender, that when cutting, I over compensated thinking that it would be tough. A chunk slid off my plate and onto my pants. Fake food in a smelly restaurant. Walked in for an early dinner, thinking this was a normal diner. Ordered pot roast, mashed potatoes (they are instant potatoes from a box), and toast. The chicken sandwich had rubbery chicken with alright veggies. The soup was thick and salty but alright once watered down. There were many flies in the building and once I got my dinner, a fly landed on my plate and drowned in the gravy. The bathroom smelled super bad so I only assume it's from hygiene. We were told we could get free pie from signing up for an online newsletter or club. Got the pie added to the check but the sign up email never came, even a week later. So for a pretty gross meal, 45 bucks. Not cheap and not fun. read more

Such a great place to stop by for a breakfast or lunch. On the way to Nebraska we stopped by for delicious breakfast. We ordered omelets with pancakes and were so happy with our choice. On the way back to Denver we stopped by for a lunch. My husband had turkey avocado sandwich and I had Reuben -- both sandwiches were super delicious, fresh and cooked just perfectly. The Village Inn was like a moment back to the 80's. A comfort choice for sure. As I walked in I noticed a few customers enjoying their meals. Looking around as I was seated, I noticed the old style seating, bench tables and the glass display case full of a variety of delicious pies. So yummy! The menu is simple and both sided laminated in a hard plastic and kinda sticky. The waitress was delightful and charming taking my order promptly. I ordered the Double Decker Club sandwich with a cup of Tomato Basil soup. In my mind I pictured, thick sliced bread with mounds of meat, bacon and tomatoes with thick mayo. When the waitress brought my food over I was so excited to see what I was going to be eating. Closer and closer as the waitress walked towards me, she sat down a plate with a sandwhich on it and my mind went WHAT? Not what I wanted to see but I ate it. It was better then what I though it would be. The cup of soup came out on 2 plates in a small cup with a pack of crackers. The soup was good but did have a high tomato paste flavor. As I ate more I could taste the basil and by then the soup was gone. The prices for the meals were great as the food reflected the prices. I did notices that they do a great deal of takeout orders. I have been coming to this village in for a few years now. My father enjoys it and the food has always been great. Tonight we had the worse service ever! I myself work in the food industry, I can understand having a bad night. But the service here tonight was completely unacceptable! My uncle even gave the server a $40.00 tip before hand. I drove an hour and a half to meet him here, the food was good. Although they were out of hamburger meat and fries. Things happen. Our sever decided to go on break and make us wait on ordering pies. My elderly father (96) and I went in on Monday, and the restaurant was mostly empty. After waiting several minutes to be seated, we seated ourselves at his usual table. He is a multiple times per week customer. The young lady who finally emerged from the back berated us for having the audacity to seat ourselves, and said that in the future we were to wait. Later, a male staff member came over and accosted us again. While Sterling is a small town, there are other restaurant options, and I would highly recommend picking another place for any restaurant dining. read more

Fair customer service with a variety of home style meals. My multigrain banana pancakes were big and moist. Definitely a shareable portion. Your standard Denny's type joint; breakfast all day appears to be their specialty. They also have about thirty different types of pies. I ate neither the breakfast or the pies. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. The food was average. My boyfriend had a party melt and onion rings and also added coleslaw. He was very pleased with his meal. He raved about the coleslaw. My bite of his patty melt was buttery. Buttery seems to be the constant as my French dip was also very heavily buttered. The meat was good but minimal compared to the amount of bread. The au jus was ok but I thought was lacking flavor. My side salad was fresh and had plenty of unexpected additions like hard boiled egg and shredded cheese. The blue cheese dressing was thick and flavorful. The food here is average; the service above average like much of the midwest. If I ate here again I'd go for the breakfast dishes. read more

I'm driving through Colorado on a road trip to the west coast, and my party decided to pass by here since we were so hungry and there wasn't food for the past 50 miles on I-76. We did not regret stopping by here at all. Coming from New Jersey, land of aggressive people, we were warmed up to the nice and awesome servers at the restaurant. The ambience of the restaurant also reminded me of a diner that is very colorful. On to the food, I got the Chicken-Fried Steak. Definitely a filling option for my hungry stomach. It seems to be the options at this place really cater to those traveling. All in all, this place I found out is a regional chain in the Midwest. There are a bunch in this part of the USA. Contrary to popular belief, I'm not a snob and when on a road trip, places like the Village Inn are very much appreciated. The place is clean with friendly staff and an ambience that makes some attempt to be modernized. The best explanation I can make is a combination of Denny's with respect to items on the menu with some unique crepe offerings and the dessert options of Baker's Square. I chose a Southwest Tortilla Chicken salad and was disappointed that it looked more like a side salad rather than the main dish. The greens looked like it had seen better days and the presentation was just blah. My husband had some sort of sausage and egg crepes and it was delicious, not just because we were starving after driving for hours but because the crepe held up real well to the flavor of the sausage. The menu appears to have something for everyone and with friendly staff that knows how to keep its customers happy, I'd say this place is a good choice for both travelers and locals alike. read more

This place is awesome, i enjoy eating here because of the great staffs, good fod and drinks. Im a "heavy drinker" and the staff knows it, so whenever i order my strawberry lemonade they give me a pitcher full, how awesome is that! That way they dont need to keep coming back every 5mins to refill my drink. Their food is pretty good, some stuff are just okay but others are superb. This place gets one extra star by default. Sterling is the worst food town for its size of any place I've been. Nevertheless, this particular VI seems to realize that it's holding up the town's entire food reputation. It's always everything you would expect it to be: clean, friendly, open, and has the expected menu. They have standard American fare and good cream pies to wash down the mediocre coffee with. I have never ordered anything they didn't have, and at 9 pm when you are craving the whole grain pancakes with a nice glass of milk so you can go back to your room and go to sleep, this place is like home. My fiance and I had never eaten at a Village Inn before so this was a new experience for the both of us. My fiance had the french dip sandwich, it came out hot and quickly, however, the bread was stale. Which ruined the experience for him. I ordered the build your own breakfast, which ended up being scrambled eggs, ham, toast and a strawberry crepe. Aside from the eggs being overcooked, I was content with my food. The diner definitely has a warm and cozy atmosphere. The service was fast a friendly, which would make me give them a second chance. read more

I was passing thru Sterling and saw a sign for the Village Inn and stopped in. It was swamped and when I asked why it turns out that Wednesdays are free pie day. Who knew, but I didn't turn down a slice of strawberry rhubard to go. Even though the place was packed I got seated pretty quickly and my server was right there with a menu and some water. I was in a hurry so I ordered a cup of the green chile pork stew and the club sandwich. I've been to a couple of Village Inns and the green chile pork stew is awesome at every one.
