one of my fave things about our city is how we've converted car space to pedestrian space, like with this food cart pod in a nook. vegan and gluten free on request, Burmese cuisine with notes of Bangladesh. this was a lovely meal on a friday evening. there is a good amount of seating (covered), and i love the offering of reusable trays and dishes (wooden cutlery though) that you bus yourself to cut down on waste. just a heads up that food is prepared fresh so it can take a few! i want to say ours took just under 15. we got the pumpkin masala with tofu (a la jasmine rice because we're gluten free) and village noodles and WOW! both dishes had such a unique flavor profile, and the pumpkin curry was lovely with authentic pumpkin notes coming through, but i will say that the tofu (crumbled in) made it quite heavy and in the future i'd honestly just go without. the star of the show, though, were the village noddles. i got these with tofu and the rice noodles were perfection (no sticky or mushiness!) and well flavored. i did say no spice but honestly I'd opt for a spice level of at least 1 next time (spices levels here are on a scale of 0-5). loved the styling and presentation. super friendly (and patient!) service. truly striving to share burmese/bangladeshi cuisine with the rose city. i'm already thinking of when i'm coming back -- this is such a hole in the wall but it's definitely worth the experience. if you're on the fence and not sure if this will be the right meal to cap the day like i was, honestly, yeah just head over here, try the food at least once and you'll be thinking when you'll be back. like i am. read more

Discovered this burmese fusion food cart while roaming past Portland's famous 23rd Ave. This place stood out amongst the typical fish and chips and burger / beer fare and has a healthy amount of vegetarian options. And wow. Their pumpkin curry (with tofu) and paratha dish was amazing. The curry is different from Indian curry. Super smooth, rich and just the right texture. And it's served on a big leaf, which was cool. The tofu was soft, kinda like mapo tofu and it made the dish so finger licking good. Saw there were more dishes so will be back to try more read more

Hmm I tried the village noodles and thought it was a bit bland. Rice noodles in a mix of some mild tomato curry. There were crushed peanuts, bamboo shoots and something tangy like maybe kaffir lime leaves that were the saving grace of the dish adding a little crunch and tanginess. I got mine w/ pork which was very meh. Honestly robly would've enjoyed it more w/ no pork or tofu instead. Also I ordered 5 out of 5 spice level and it felt like completely 0. It was a fair price at $15 I feel tho. Overall in my limited experience with Burmese cuisine I feel like it's kinda Indian but much more mild spices and I guess I just prefer that powerful Indian flavor more. read more

If you haven't been to Village Kitchen what are you waiting for?? It's the perfect comfort food for any weather but especially during this cold and rainy season! They offer vegetarian and vegan options if that's your jam. I really enjoy the eggplant curry and the noodles with tofu. But they do offer pork and chicken as well. I have had the pleasure of trying everything on the menu (vegan only of course) and I honestly wish I could eat this everyday. They recently added a new dish to the menu - Pumpkin Purée with Paratha and wooowwww that was such a delicious addition! The Mac Riah is a fun macaroni and curry mash up and it's everything you didn't know you needed. Burmese eats in Sellwood y'all! Always refreshing to try new cuisine and change it up. I got the Kachin Tribe chicken and while it's reminiscent of curry flavs the nuances of spices intrigued my palate to have more bites as the taste is familiar yet foreign at the same time. This cart is located in the PikNik pods next to New Seasons. There are a few outdoor tables avail to dine at. I used 2g2g so my order was ready and quick pick up. The front staff was sweet and polite really making it hard not to come back to support biz along with trying more dishes. Glad Kitchen Village is now on my radaaaar. read more

This food cart area is very cute and somewhat eclectic it's got kind of a mishmash of furniture and decorations. Food was ready quick. I ordered the eggplant curry I thought that the curry tasted mostly of tomato and was somewhat lacking in other flavors the rice was cooked pretty well. The first time I came here I got the village curry. I was not expecting the beautiful presentation considering Village Kitchen is a food cart, but they really went the extra mile.
