The atmosphere is incredible - they've nailed that moody, low-lit lounge vibe without feeling pretentious. The food was equally impressive. The giant single dumpling wasn't my favorite dish of the night, but everything else more than made up for it. The pork ribs were outstanding - tender enough to fall right off the bone, with a sweeter flavor profile that worked really well. The noodles ended up being our favorite dish. They had just the right amount of spice with tons of flavor. Service was quick, no line and you order up the counter and they will bring your food out. They offer indoor seating and outdoor seating. The patio setup is especially great and feels like the perfect spot to spend a summer evening with friends. Overall, a fantastic addition to Mississippi Street. read more

We visited Rangoon Bistro for a late dinner and it was a good experience. This location has a good amount of outdoor benches along with some indoor seating. You order and pay at the counter first and the dishes are brought over to you. Customer service was friendly and helpful. The menu was smaller than expected, but there was a fair amount of options for entrees and drinks. My friend and I opted to share a tea leaf salad, mushroom noodles, and a fried chicken dish. I thought the tea leaf salad was alright although the fish sauce component was strong and I couldn't have too much as a result. The mushroom noodles were tasty, but a bit on the salty side. My friend and I both enjoyed the fried chicken and coconut rice dish, which had a nice flavor and texture and was the highlight of our meal. I also got a palm soda, which was refreshing, while my friend had an iced Burmese tea, which she described as a mix of milk tea and thai tea. It had a nice fragrance & wasn't overly sweet. The main downside is we opted to sit outdoors and got a few bug bites, so that is something to keep in mind (depending on the time of the day or season). Portions were good and we had trouble finishing our dishes. Pricing for our food and drinks seemed reasonable. I've been wanting to try more Burmese cuisine, so when I was in the area I figured I would give it a try. The atmosphere inside is a more casual, neighborhood style restaurant, as you seat yourself and go up to order at the counter. We started with the fried potatoes, which were crispy and upon the first bites had a distinct note of Szechuan spice from the oil. However, after eating them more you don't taste the spice anymore and it becomes a pretty boring dish to eat that would greatly benefit from a sauce. The Shan style pork noodles, on the other hand, are a must order as they were bursting with flavor. The chickpea tofu curry was good, but didn't blow me away. The tofu has a soft texture that goes nicely with the fried aromatics and peanuts on top. The curry is very tomato forward and doesn't have the depth of flavor I would've wanted. read more

Came back, the KPS dumplings had called for me. And with the gorgeous weather we just had to eat outside. That dumplings will forever haunt my dreams the black vinegar sauce is amazing. We ordered a few items to share - Khao Pyan Sane (Very large dumpling), Wat Nanyoe (braised pork ribs), and Shao Khan Swe (Shan style pork noodles). Ended our day of walking around Portland with dinner at Rangoon Bistro, and it couldn't have been a better note to close the night on. We started with the Mala Aloo, crispy fried potatoes dusted in mala spice. The texture was perfectly golden, light, and crisp on every side. I have a hunch they slightly flatten them during cooking to get that perfect surface-area crunch, because they came out fast and flawlessly done. The pork ribs, with flavors of star anise and black cardamom in a spicy, herby green broth, were fall-off-the-bone tender. The herbs added this brightness that kept it from feeling heavy, and pairing it with jasmine rice tied everything together beautifully. The Shan-style pork noodles (Kyay oh si chet) were the ultimate comfort -- rice noodles layered with pork belly, pork meatballs, tofu, crispy garlic, and a boiled egg. Savory and rich. My personal favorite of the night. I could eat this jawn all day long! And finally, the Khao Pyan Sane (giant dumpling) -- one massive pork-and-cabbage dumpling swimming in tamari vinegar and chili oil. It had a great blend of flavors. Definitely one of the most memorable dishes of the night given how huge it was. The space feels calm, modern, and intentional -- a perfect reflection of how much care goes into every dish. Service was phenomenal; fast and checked in on us often. If you want to experience Burmese flavors done with both heart and craft, Rangoon Bistro is it. I have such mixed feelings after eating here. Overall, the food was quite good and the dishes were super unique. But it's one of those things where the first few bites of each dish were absolute smash 10/10s, but specifically the Khao Pyane Sane (the "large dumpling") I got tired of it very quickly. Particularly the dumpling appetizer, was EXTREMELY flavorful and yummy, but after about half it started getting really overwhelming and overly salty. Overall, the food was all pretty great but if you generally find yourself eating light usually, it may be too much. I thought the fried chicken was satisfying, but if you're looking for a "best fried chicken", I'm not sure this would be it. The house sauce for the fried chicken is a sweet and sour sauce. Staff were extremely friendly. Portions are normal sized. Restaurant is an order at the front and self service water, utensils type of place such as Nong's. Truly a unique experience. I was unaware of Burma's (Myanmar) geographical local and treasures. The influence of SE Aisa, China and Bangladesh make for an eclectic menu, of which much is gluten free by result. Really casual and well-decorated interior. We tried the big dumpling, the fried potatoes, and a couple of the noodle entrees and were absolutely blown away. I've never been to this location - only the Division/50th location. I think their menus differ a bit. We ordered a bunch of food to share. I got the house made lemon soda (yum and not too sweet). We got the tea leaf salad (I don't know how they manage to keep the beans crispy!) - tasty but not enough tea leaf for me. The mushroom noodles were recommended and they did not disappoint. Reminded me of lo mein noodles with nice rich flavor with mushrooms and veggies. We had the fried lentil, onion and bean plate - super tasty and lots of sauce options. The fried chicken is always a moist, crispy winner and it's served w the sweet coconut rice topped with fried onions and a tasty sticky sauce on the side. Highly recommend. Service was friendly and checked in on us and brought us waters throughout. We sat outside on a beautiful evening. Only complaint is it can get a little loud outside on Mississippi and the wasps come by to eat your chicken. But alas you gotta pay the wasp tax (leave a bone for them). We started with the Lahpet Thoke (Shredded Cabbage Salad) and from the first bite I knew we were going to love the place. Savory, crunchy, unique, delicious! For our main we got the Mushroom Si Chet and the Si Chet Khao Swe (same noodle dishes, just different proteins - Mushroom vs Pork).
