Called the Scottish Locksmith and he notified me he retired and sold the business to Village Lock and Key. One of our locks broke and required removed and replaced. I contacted Village and was notified the cost would be for overtime given it was a Saturday which is understandable. I was not home when he arrived, but he arrived on time and replaced the lock that was broken. When I arrived home, he had already left. What I first noticed was the newly painted white door had greasy handprints all over it. The door was also cracked where the lock meets the door jam. This is where he had to break out the old frozen lock. Then to top it off, I discovered broken metal pieces all over the ground in the house and in the garage. He just left it for the customer to clean up. You would think that paying a service provider a few hundred dollars for 30 minutes work they would at least clean up and show some level of consideration. So, I give a rating of two. read more

These guys are awesome. I had just moved into my new house and these guys did a great job with re-keying my front door. I also had Alan come out and drilled out a hole for my new dead bolt I got from them, which was also keyed perfectly to my original lock. Service was prompt and they showed up on time. Alan also fixed my old lock that was sticking and made it work like new with a quick lube. They also did a great job cleaning after any mess they made. Great group of guys and their customer service is awesome. I also found out they also deal with car locks and are much cheaper than going to the dealer. Highly recommended. read more

We recently bought a house and needed the locks on our doors rekeyed and some changed . We have a house with lots of doors. We needed 22 locks rekeyed. they arrived on time and when finished we had to purchase another lock. I needed my home door locks re-keyed. Dave from Village Lock arrived on a Saturday at the time he said he would be there. I received $10 off of the in home service charge when I mentioned Yelp. Dave didn't charge extra for a weekend service; I believe he said their isn't an extra charge on Saturdays between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Anyway, my locks were changed without issue. I've said it before and I will SAY IT AGAIN!!! They are THE BEST!!! Don't waste your time with others! Once again, I needed them for my business for a fire department requirement. Todd came out and was ready to go but *BAM!* - my doors weren't standard... he sat and thought and finally said that he had to go back to his shop and build something special for my doors. He came back two days later, had manufactured a new part, got the part installed and still only charged me what he originally quoted (even though it was a crapton more work and more product! Did not use the business to fix an ignition key in my 2003 Honda Pilot. They were upfromt and honest that they could not do the job on this particular type of key and referred me to a locksmith who could. I have lived in Poway for over 35 years and have always had wonderful service here. He has moved several times, and I always followed. A few years ago I had a backup key made for my car, the type that has the keyless entry attached to the key. Today I went to get another backup key. The clerk was not the owner. I placed the keys on the counter and he said "we don't touch those." I explained I had the same exact key copied here before. His response: "The boss told me never make these." I asked could he refer me to another locksmith who makes these car key's. His response; "You have to do that yourself!" UH, Customer Service? Locksmith's know other locksmith's. If you do not (or no longer) provide a service, it is good customer service to recommend someone who does. NO brainier! You are not loosing business, you will most likely keep your business. BTW, I went home and located another locksmith in Rancho Bernardo. They were very polite and even copied my key for free. Interesting to note that "Village Lock & Key" is listed on the internet under MANY different names with the same address. Kinda makes me wonder all the alias's !!! read more

Alan and Todd are both great in every way. I've taken a few deadbolt cylinders to the shop where Todd took care of quickly rekeying them for a very reasonable price. Alan has also been out to our house a couple times to help out with various lock issues. We'd recently bought a new front door and wanted it rekeyed to match the other doors. It was a style of lock that I'd never seen before and I did not know how to remove the cylinder to take it into the shop. Alan came out and had it removed and rekeyed in no time. And the best part, Alan remembered us from our prior business so he didn't charge a trip fee. These guys are professional, timely, clean, trustworthy, and they remember past clients. First time use. There is something very wrong with the smaller guy. It seems that the owner is the taller guy and I didn't have any problem with him. However the other guy is so blunt and rude to customers. The other customer who came after me was pissed off with his rude attitude and the way how he talks as well. Same thing happened to me. He was so frustrated with Samsung Pay at the end. He said his machine doesn't take it as it doesn't have that technology but I asked him just to give it a try as I know everybody says the same story. Finally he accepted it after some arguments and it worked as expected. And he changed his story that they don't accept it as it charges more fee. No reason to visit again. read more

Found Village Lock & Key after my wife and I bought a home. Spoke with Alan on the phone and got an estimate on the cost to come out and rekey the house. Alan called ahead and arrived at the agreed upon time. Rekeyed the locks quickly from his truck's workbench, as well as lubed the locks. Final price was as discussed on the phone, no surprises. Brought in two of my own GM VATS key blanks that needed to be cut as well as two extra VATS blanks that that I offered to give them since they wouldn't fit my car and I didn't want to just throw them in the trash if someone else could use them. Unfriendly service without a smile. I reluctantly went to this store to get a copy of a work key. This was my second visit (at the recommendation of Lowe's). The first time, i was in and out of the store in 10 seconds (without looking at the key, the gentleman with the beard said he could not make a.copy of my key. He could see the grooves from 10 feet away). This time, the gentleman with the beard reluctantly made a key after telling him how others had the same key made in the past and that Lowe's recommended them. He said a couple of times that he could not guarantee it would work and would not refund if it didn't. Okay sir, I understand. After his disclaimers, he wouldn't give me a receipt because he would not guarantee the work. I now see why...he didn't seem like he wanted to make the copy AND it failed. Definitely not a service first business. After the key failed (the key did not work because he did not copy it correctly), I went to Champion Lock & Safe in Rancho Bernardo. The young lady there was extremely friendly and did not charge me even though I had my wallet out. She made a few modifications to the key I obtained here. I will continue going to and referring people to Champion Lock & Safe. I would not recommend this business. read more

These are the people who really mean business! Right on time very professional quick response right away sir! Mailbox lock replacement. After opening it I took all my mails and head to my house. And the guy came and gave me the new keys for the mail as soon as I drop my mail on the table. Paid him the well spent money. Thank you. Also for car keys a long time ago they did a good job! I needed two keys cut for my Escalade; $2.50 per key. When I brought my keys in and the new blanks, the cost increase to $20 per key with the explanation that these were "special" encoded keys and cost more to cut. What ???? They went on to explain that it cost more "because if we screw up and mis-cut the key, the blanks cost more" ... again, what??? After paying and leaving, it just didn't set right, so I went back and asked again ... I still don't get it. The same guy, machine and process to cut a key, yet they charge 10x's more as they see fit. read more

Todd came to my house to service a new door handle I had purchased from another hardware store. I wasn't able to unclock my door and he took the whole things apart, re-tooled some pieces and it's good as new! I would highly recommend Village Lock and Key for hardware and service. read more

I called to get a key made and they quoted me $45 for a duplicate car key, which was $65 cheaper than the dealer. I went there the next day only for them to tell me I had to bring that car. So I rushed back home from Poway to Escondido and back with a toddler in tow, switched cars and ran into the store only to tell me, sorry not enough time. I went back to my car and sat in tears because I wasted all that gas and time for nothing. Never again will I consider this place. With the gas I wasted, I probably would be the same if I just went to the dealer. Wish I could rate zero! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE. read more

Todd to the rescue! I own an acupuncture practice in Poway and somehow my treatment room was locked and my keys were missing! At first I contacted a 1-800 number and got the run-around. After 2 hours of waiting and getting strange phone calls from the "guy who is on his way" or "i've been stopped by a cop and will be there soon" I gave up. Thankfully I found Village Lock and Key. A guest broke the lock on my back door to my home, by turning with too much force the latch which secures the lock in place. I was expecting to have to buy a set of 2 new handles/locks for close to $400 plus labor. Many neighbors on the NextDoor app's discussion forum recommended Village Lock & Key for a locksmith. I took the broken handle/lock to the store, and the store was able to fix/replace the part inside the lock mechanism that had broken off. It only cost me a total of $10 for parts and labor, and they were able to fix it immediately. Even more impressive was that the piece that had broken was apparently an odd piece, so there wasn't a standard piece available as a replacement, but the store was able to take another similar piece and cut and modify it so that it would fit and work properly in my lock. The store was honest, fair, and quick in the repair of my lock. I definitely would recommend the store to others, just as people in my neighborhood recommended the store to me. read more
