Suzee's Third St. Laundry - Bizarrely enough, they really do have an annual fashion show out of here.

Huh. Something of an offbeat choice for my 150th review, but one takes the rough with the smooth…read more Anyhow, if you need to use a laundromat in Turners, this is your only option, short of driving to Greenfield. I patronized the place for about a year until getting a washer/dryer, and I didn't much mind it; it was in close walking distance to my apartment. The pros: It has a couple comfortable couches, a TV, a soda machine, coin dispensers, the usual. If you lose money in a machine you can get a refund (but see below). The owner is provably laid back (see below for that as well). With it right in the downtown, it's perfectly possible to grab a bite while your stuff is washing. There's a free municipal lot right next door and reasonably ample on-street parking. It's got free WiFi. The hours definitely do not suck, and given my sleep problems being able to pop in at 6 AM to do laundry was a good thing. The cons: This is a low income area, and a number of the patrons are "colorful." Children being brought here to run around, scream and go crazy in lieu of babysitting is a common occurrence, especially in the evenings. Homeless folk, secure in the knowledge they're unlikely to be rousted, sometimes hang out where there's a free TV to watch and a warm couch to sit on in winter, and I read in the local weekly's police log about one such whom the owner purportedly allowed to sleep on one of those couches for a week. On the Laundromat Scale of Dinginess, I'd rate Suzee's a C-. (Mind you, that's on a laundromat scale.) On any given day, nearly half the machines are out of order, and if you lose your money in the next one to GO out of order, you can fill out a card, sure, but it took me three months to get that money back the last time I did.

Checked it out once, more than 1/2 the machines do not work. Very mildewy too. Not worth it!read more

Laundry Party - 2 formerly identical shirts. The one on the right was washed by Laundry party and ruined. They had washed both shirts many times before.

Overall, recommended. Thoughts:…read more BAGS, NOT WEIGHT: Unlike other services I've used in the past, who "weigh" your clothes, LP charges a flat fee per bag - so whatever you can stuff in their large bags is $20 per bag. I like this system a lot, as I don't have to worry about certain items being more expensive and I know what I'm going to be paying without waiting for someone to come and weigh everything. My husband and I have done some testing and found that the bags come out to a little under twice as much cost as doing the laundry ourselves at the laundromat. It depends, though, if that time is worth it to you. It is to us. ONLINE ORDERING: They have a nice online ordering system. You can specify days/times and locations for pick-up/drop-off. On that first menu, they also have additional services for around $4-$6 fees such as stain removal, special delicate wash, same-day service and other things I've apparently never used because I can't think of them. SERVICE: Service has been prompt. Clothes has been delivered well-folded, although packed in a plastic bag rather than a paper bag (so things do get wrinkled) and nothing lost as of yet. I order the unattended drop-off/pick-up and I like that I get email notifications when that has happened. If it is a day I'm off work, I actually do head home to bring in the laundry (tip for management if you are reading this - putting undergarments somewhere hidden would be appreciated; the bags are clear!) UPDATES: *March 2016: So far great service. Highly recommended. *July 2016: I've had two white items come back recently with stains. A few days later: Good response from Laundry Party (Ben) via email that attests to how much they do seem to care about customers. For me, I haven't been able to reach them via phone, but email was prompt (between one minute to one day except on the weekends, I think) *August 2016: I'm graduating to more delicate items that I care about; so far, so good.
