Village Smithy was a fabulous breakfast spot in Glenwood Springs. We did wait a while but easily passed the time with a quick stroll down the street to dip into a few cute stores. Once inside, we again waited quite a while - over an hour for our food. We were a party of four and ordered breakfast items. Thank goodness this was a long overdue connection with the parents and we had lots to connect over. Once our food arrived, it was radio silent - always a good sign. I ordered Chorizo Avocado Benny. Parents ordered eggs and ham, partner ordered breakfast enchiladas. Everything was incredible - well seasoned, locally sourced with fresh ingredients and cooked to order. Yum. The Village Smithy prides itself as the one of the best breakfast restaurants in Colorado. I've enjoyed it for 52 years as a child, my graduation lunch, my local ladies bridal breakfast and now consistently with my husband. I was upset this morning that rather than the menu allowing me to order a half order of the legendary McHeuvos- I would have to purchase a full order of which the staff would have to waste food. Then I ordered a Western Omlette, no hash browns, no cheese with just two eggs- this cost $16.50 only $1.50 off a full omelette meal. Shocked and as a native to the Valley embarrassed for an upstanding establishment not bending - even in a structured, profitable manner both fair to the business and customer. So now, after 52 years...Maybe..I'd recommend The Village Smithy. read more

Great breakfast spot with lots of gluten free options. Also a local favorite! I have been here numerous times over the years and it is as good as breakfast gets. Sometimes the service is a little hectic because it is always busy but that will never stop me from coming here. I got the Santiago Skillet this time and it was perfect. So we have been going to the Smithy for 40yrs, we have loved it every time from the service the food the time the food comes out And we understand that the valley changes and grows but the change that has happened with the new ownership of this restaurant is a huge bummer! I've waited to write this after going back 4 times and it keeps getting worse each time- we LOVE the servers!but they are original. Today, understandably it was a long wait so I ordered a mimosa to go, it was $14 for a kid sized cup, once seated and ordered, we waited 35min for our food (would've been 10min), ordered mimosas' that came in a small flute glass for the same price but used to come in a very nice sized, my friend ordered her eggs over medium and they were runny whites and all. No home made salsa offered which is a Village Smithy staple, and the eggs Benedict sauce is tasteless now. Carbondale, CO is hope to this beautiful breakfast/lunch spot and it's never disappointed! The feel of a hometown diner type spot is achieved 100% although they have plenty of seating space. When you walk in, you'll notice a ton of colorful, local flyers informing every visitor of what the are has to offer. From people who'll run your errands for a small fee, to meditation classes and pottery spots, this wall tells you right away that The Village Smithy is truly about the village. When you get into the actual lobby area, there is a wall of mugs that belong to regular visitors! Holy moly it's crazy, how cool that is (to me)! lol I'd love to just walk in, grab my mug and sit down to a fresh, hot pour. But I digress.... The food was fantastic and so was the service, actually! We got great recommendations for two different types of french toast. I also had sausage patties--which they GRILL! Game changer! The other stand out was lemon loaf french toast which was basically the iced, lemon pound cake you an get like Entemans or something, and they add it to a buttered skillet and serve it with berry compote. Holy moly that thang was goooooooood! The orange juice was fresh and delish! Again, it was a fantastic experience and I can't wait to go back to the Aspen area to enjoy The Village Smithy again! We went last weekend and had the best time. A 10 Minute wait in a Saturday morning was nothing. We hung outside in the field while we waited. We had a lovely French waitress. She was very nice and made sure we were taken care of. We both had mimosa flights. I had pineapple, lavender and raspberry. I have never seen lavender and raspberry offered anywhere and let me tell you- they were DELICIOUS!! I had the mchuevos I believe and my husband had some sort of skillet and we got our customary chocolate chip pancake to share. Everything came out fast, it was delicious and it felt super fresh! My dish came with a tortilla and I got the salsa in the side. I was able to make 4 little tacos out of it. It didn't feel greasy like a lot of other breakfast places which was nice! Brunch with a side of terrible attitude! We requested a table by the terrace railing, but none were available at the time we arrived. The only table available was right next to the kitchen doors, which had heavy traffic. A few minutes later, a table became available, so we asked our rude waitress if we could change. She responded by saying that the table was still unclean and that since we had already ordered drinks, it was too much of an effort. We spoke with the hostess about this, and she initially seemed okay with us moving. We saw the table being cleaned and set, but no one came for us. A few minutes later, another party of four arrived at the restaurant, and the hostess promptly seated them at the railing table. We asked what was going on, and she gave us a lecture about restaurant rules about moving tables once seated. Clearly, the restaurant's staff is not very good at customer service. We stopped for brunch here today. It's in a fun converted building and our server was efficient. My husband ordered a chimichanga and I got the corn cakes. I was pretty disappointed with my meal. On our way back from Glenwood Springs to Aspen, we stopped in for breakfast. The service was very quick and friendly and the dining room was clean. The building seems very old from the outside but they have added onto it to support their business! I had the Breakfast Quesadilla and it was delicious. You get the option of bacon, spinach, or both. Which is kinda a random option to decide between but it was great. It included hash browns which were a great portion size. The entire meal was very filling and I struggled to finish it all. The fresh jam on each table was incredible and my colleague actually bought 2 jars to bring home with her. They have a great display case at the entrance with fresh stuff for sale. read more

We go to Village Smithy about once a year for our annual trip to Carbondale from Denver. This is our go-to restaurant every time we visit. They have great service and high quality food. I normally do not write reviews, but this trip was extra. I left my purse at the restaurant and did not notice until we were almost back to Denver. I called them the next morning and spoke to Brenda. My son lives in Carbondale and asked him to pick it up for me. Unfortunately, his work hours did not allow him to pick it up when the restaurant was open. Brenda went out of her way, outside of business hours, and got my purse back. When my son offered her a cash tip for her troubles, she would not take it. Brenda you are an angel! read more

They have a lot of outdoor seating in the lawn and a really nice covered patio so you still feel like you're in the fresh air even indoors. The food was solid, not super remarkable. The five year old had Mouse Cakes and of course loves anything shaped like an animal, tasted them myself and they were quite good. The menu has many great choices and the food is delicious and outstanding. My hubby and I both ordered a Western Scramble, requested no ham and added spinach. It was a hearty dish with great flavors. The hash browns were also a perfect side with a nice crunch to it. Generous portions and it was pleasantly plated. Only wish it was all warmer when served because it wasn't when it was brought to the table. The orange juice was freshly squeezed and so delicious. Unfortunately a really bad experience. We placed our orders by 12:10; after we asked for an update (we were in a bit of a rush) the food came 30 minutes later at 12:40. We asked to have it in takeout containers, and our server came back with them and literally slammed them down on the table and walked away. I wish it were an exaggeration. The word to describe everything was "curt". The food was 3.5 stars. The hash brown was cold and hard. The scramble was quite bland. The tofu scramble, toast and coffee were good.
