I have been going to this liquor store since 1989 when I used to work at the bank across the street. I came back 20 years later and the owners remembered my name. Is that good or bad? The store was sold a couple of years ago and guess what? The new owners also know my name. Actually there have been times where I've shown up hammered without my ATM card and they have let me pay them later. (Relax. I live within walking distance.) My husband's review says it's always a good feeling to have the neighborhood vendor know your name. Well he's right but I think they know our name because we are big booze hounds and I think our business alone allows the owner to take two deluxe vacations a year. So he better know our name dammit. But the point is that this is a great liquor store. They have everything you can imagine plus a great wine selection. And they don't jack up the prices as much as other liquor stores tend to do. And I think next year the owners are taking us with them on vacation. read more

Good location, good selection, but insanely expensive. Many of their "premium" spirits are at least 50-100% more than what they cost online (e.g., a bottle of whiskey that runs $60 online will be $100-120 here). ALL of their rare bottles are more expensive than what you can get it for on the secondary market. High West Yippee Ki-Yay, for example, can be found for $90-110 online, and this place sells it for $299. Either they have a bunch of gullible customers, or they aren't selling their premium stuff. The store is also crazy unorganized. They have rum in four or five different locations. This place needs to get organized and revisit their pricing. I'm willing to pay 10-20% more than online prices if the selection and service is good. But not if the store feels like a cheap liquor store that just accidentally happened to get some shipments of high-end stuff. read more

Completely surprised by the vast selection at this store. When entering I was immediately greeted by Ray who seemed legitimately interested in how my day was... not your typical liquor store introduction. I was browsing the cooler doors and encountered a crazy variety of ciders and kombucha. Little did I know there was a secret gem in the middle of the store. A GIANT CRAFT BEER CAVE!!! Upon entering the beer cave I was blown away at the amount of Craft beer both local and from afar being offered here. I'm a huge fan of Revision Brewing so it was nice to see some of the rare releases at this location. Danny came into the cooler and asked if I had any questions in which I responded "yea, how did you get all of this good stuff?!" I must have spent close to $50.00 bucks here but it was well worth it, upon checking out a well-dressed gentleman named Z came out and thanked me for coming by. MaCallan 15 usually retails for $150, priced for $399 at this shit hole. This is exactly why small shops don't survive. They prey on the fact they are small so that means they can charge completely absurd prices for their goods. It's why your a hole in the wall serving the local drunks and not a respectable clientele. You should be ashamed of your pricing. It's criminal. And yes - your worker told me "then go shop elsewhere if you don't like the price". I did. Spent $600 at that elsewhere spot. I don't really go to liquor stores very often. They are a tad too shady for me, and I'd rather stay out of trouble. My fears were not disappearing as we saw 2 cop cars and the police talking to a distraught person on the curb next to the store (I guess there's actually crime in encinitas...). But my tall lanky friend just ignored them and kept walking in. Inside, I found a store with some of the finest beer selections I have seen. Some really rare brews being sold there. We found some Stone Wootstout and a Deschutes Class of 89 edition smoked porter. I was very happy with this. All in all, yeah, it's shady. But what a surprising selection of beer. read more

The people here are super nice and always treat you with that hometown liquor shop hospitality (whatever that means). You can get almost any type of liquor here and the beer selection is great. They have many types of Stone Brew and a lot of local brews like Coronado, Karl Stauss, and Torrey Pines Breweries. As for the wine selection, it's not bad at all either. A few unusual items sold here are a ton of pornography for all those horny bastards and random assortments of foreign foods. Other than that they sometimes have annoying liquor promotion people in here trying to sell you a bottle of vodka and give you some free stuff that nobody wants, but it isn't worth docking a star. He was really great on the phone and worked with me even though he could tell I was very stressed that I needed lots of champagne delivered within a few hours. Every time I frequent Village wine and spirits I have a great experience. The store is always well stocked, it's very clean and the associates are very pleasant and helpful. Today, I received an order to be delivered to my home. Nathan who took my order over the phone was very helpful and extremely prompt with my delivery (unlike other delivery services I've used). Unfortunately, I realized that there was a quality issue with one of the products I had ordered. With one simple call i made to the manager Vee, the issue was resolved and handled professionally. I am located in San Francisco and could not find a company who could deliver it. I went on Yelp and found Village Spirit Shop. I looked at the reviews and saw that this company had helped someone previously with a delivery so I thought I would give it a try. The owner was extremely helpful and promised to deliver the Tequila the same day. He sent me a picture of the bottle, the receipt and even attached a note for me. He went above and beyond to help me.
