The day we check into Northstar, we like to meander through the village and just chill. My son needed an activity after playing in the snow for hours. So after walking past this candle making shop several times, I decided to check it out. It's a great time!! We did a $27 candle and my son had the time of his life, picking his wax and scent. They have a build a bear and a ceramics painting station. The price was fair I thought for the experience and the final product. My son picked the mint mojito scent lol. The smell is nice, not too strong. The darker candle wax colors turn out better in my opinion. A family runs the business, give them some support and swing by. Really a great way to kill some time and do an activity that is relaxing. The shop is next to the beach inside the village. Have fun friends! read more

Second time we attempted to bring my granddaughter from TX for the build a bear activity. The website posts they are open Fri-Sun. The voicemail confirms they are open. We went to Northstar specifically for this experience, had to park far out (very busy day) to only discover that once again, they were not open. This is incredibly rude and thoughtless of the store owners to not update their voicemail to advise potential customers that they are not open. WILL NOT TRY AGAIN - they don't deserve any business. read more

My friends and I went here the week after Memorial Day. May and June hours are different than what's posted on Google or Yelp, so make sure to call them to see if they're actually open. Even though the sign posted on the door said it opened at 10am, we waited 1.5 hours before the employee decided to show up (late!) and open up. Northstar in general was pretty empty at the time we went, but it does not justify simply not showing up and making customers wait for over an hour! When the employee did arrive, she did not apologize, show us around, or help us get started with the brushes, sponges, or water bowls either. Ceramic items here are pricier, but there's no studio fee. If you finish painting before 4pm, you can pick up your items the next day after 12pm. We ended up painting four bowls for about $25 each after tax. read more

We were looking for something to do during the off-season in Tahoe, and we came across this incredibly wonderful candle shop! My fiancée absolutely loved it, as did my brother and his girlfriend. Sarah was so informative and understanding. You can really tell she loves what she does and enjoys helping others. We were so happy to see other people come in and get to making their own candles. For the price, absolutely worth it. And they offer pottery painting and soap making, too! Definitely would recommend for a daytime date or an afternoon group date. Also be sure to allow for an hour or two for your art to dry or mold. We went there at 3, got finished crafting at 430 then picked up around 6. They usually close at 5 so we were so happy that Sarah was able to accommodate for the fact that we were leaving the following afternoon. read more

Our Christmas pottery painting experience ended up being far from festive. I should've checked the reviewed. After we finished painting, they surprised us by bumping the price to $15, from $10, per item for shipping. Though frustrated, I paid it to avoid further hassle. Unfortunately, that optimism was misplaced. Two weeks have passed, and we still haven't received our items. To make matters worse, I called to check the status on shipping; the employee said they haven't shipped them yet and abruptly hung up on me mid-conversation. Laid back place there was no music inside i would suggest bringing some earphones, employees are nice and professional. My wife and i each made our own soap, candles, and painted some pottery. Went here last weekend with friends to make candles. My daughter had a great time picking her colors and shapes and making a candle of her own. While in Tahoe for the summer, this is a great activity spot to bring the kids and spend some quality time. The three kids with us were talking about this adventure all weekend. Everyone had a blast! While our candles were cooling off and setting, we went to the rink in the center of the village and the kids and a couple adults enjoyed roller skating outdoors on a beautiful day. When we picked up the candles ... the lady wrapped them beautifully and we all oooh'd and ahhh'd when she showed them to us. They are beautiful! Interesting place where you can forge your own custom candles or buy from a bevy of pre-made ones from the locals. Lots of other touristy knick knacks also. The reason I walked in was not actually due to the candles but they have these spikey metal sculptures that look like the ones at La Fiesta restaurant in Mtn View (you'll just have to eat there to know what I'm talking about, and make sure you're not under one during an earthquake). Need idea if you had kids and wanted to give them sort of art/crafts therapy I guess. read more

This place has pretty bad service and I've had a bad experience here. I tried coming here twice with my 2 year old on two separate weekends to do pottery painting. Both days on Sunday's. Each time I got there it was around 1:30 or 2pm. I was told both times the place is about the close and we can't do pottery painting - only soap making since it's faster. If the place closes at 5pm, per the website, how is getting there 3 hours before it "closes" too late to do anything? My impression without an explanation is the shop worker wants to close the place early since Noone was in there both times and not help us. Gave the place a shot twice. read more

Wow! Love this place! Our two boys 12 and 14 loved making candles! Love the creative way they make the candles and no risk of hot wax. Sara is the "Candle Whisper" and has the "it" factor in working with diverse groups from kids to grown ups! Boys had fun selecting shapes and cutting wax chips and adding ready made wax cutouts for very professional looking candles! ALL loved watching the finishing process from the mega vat of hot wax and the real life cooling waterfall and mini river! We'll make this an annual visit! This candle shop is located in the complex of all the other restaurants and shops. Very cute concept! I was expecting 'soy candles' or 'essential oil fragrances'. My friends all made a candle each! The ingredients were a little questionable but the experience was wonderful. A must try! read more

Incredibly dissapointing. Was super excited to finally find time to paint ceramics here, yet the store repeatedly gave us false information about closing times and ruined one of our cermaic pieces. After realising we didn't have enough time to finish our pieces we inquired about closing times for the following days. Despite being told they would be open till 6 or possible 7 on the weekends, the next two nights we were told before 5 that they would be closing soon and we would need to leave. This was incredibly frustrating as i was visiting from England and was now running out of time and in the end although i finished the painting was unable to pick it up once it had been glazed. The plan was my friend would pick mine up when she went to finish off painting hers, however upon returning to the shop both our pieces had been glazed meaning her piece was left ruined. Extremely dissapointing as these ceramic pieces were not cheap. WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN read more
