There are two kinds of people in Tulsa: those who know about this place, and everyone else…read more I moved to Tulsa two years ago with a variety of health ailments consistent with the Millennial condition and a vague notion that Pilates might help. I'd grown to understand exercise as the necessary punishment for a lifestyle high in carbohydrates (aka as a young adult I was raised on a diet of overpriced bootcamps), and the greatest discovery at Total Pilates was that exercise could (should?) actually function therapeutically. Did you know you could "look forward" to "working out"? Through migraines and aches and pains and ups and downs this place has kept me from going unhinged. Lisa (owner) has assembled a gifted team. Given my sensibility I work primarily with Jeanie, who was originally described to me as an architect of pain but is actually more like a shaman, or a highly skilled orthopedic specialist? Have you ever taken an exercise class from a radio personality? Now that Pilates is my singular personality trait I've visited studios on both coasts. We are spoiled to have access to this team and the space. I insist on bringing people here when they visit town.

This place is close to my home and I had gone to floor Pilates regularly a few years ago. Recently, I contacted the studio again to try to attend classes again and again, I received an initial contact but when it came down to scheduling a class, I didn't get any response. Very frustrating and disappointing.

I've slowly lost 10lbs with diet change and coming to their yoga classes and barbell class. Plus, cardio and some light weight training. I love all the morning yoga instructors; Trish, Jeana & Kristi. They are all so nice and so kind, I feel so welcomed and at peace when I go to yoga. Even during heated yoga where most everyone is super fit, I feel like I belong and that I am not being judged. I love the gym and feeling so welcomed has made me love going. It's my favorite time of the day, the few days a week that I have been going. It's so nice to feel like I can finally make the change for my health because the facilities are clean, the staff are extremely nice & the classes are so helpful when you can't afford the extra cost of personal training.

To begin, if you don't know, this gym's members lean toward the affluent. You can see the evidence…read moreexamining the parked cars, the spectrum of services typically offered at a country club, and the what I call "the new shoe parade" (adults over 40 wearing the most trendy athletic shoes). Glaring discrepancies: - the men's bathroom stalls don't stay locked efficiently and have a peek-a-poo gap you can use both eyes to see through. They'll spend money on fake plants, yet won't fix what's needed (this applies to other issues as well) - so far this summer, the outside "hot tub" is either disgusting, jets don't work, flooded with kids under 12 (there's a rule against that), or it's closed off - when it's busy, you'd swear no one in the greater Tulsa area is going to any other gym at that moment - it's succumb to the "Premium" disease. Some things you can't do unless you pay more - and a general membership is already pricey - if you want to play pickleball - good luck. They change the schedule of when the courts are available for whatever types of players. If it's free play, you might end up waiting awhile before you play again. There's only 3 courts. That's all for now. I'm sure there's other issues. Those are just from my lens. Two stars simply because it has so many services. Think "Costco" of gyms. It's got a dystopian feel and it's up to you how much kool aid you want to drink.

Before I get into the details I want to mention they do give at least one free class to try it out. I highly recommend it. You can test it out. Take a water bottle (and towel) with you. :) Classes are typically 45 minutes with some being 60. The instructors are well-trained and incredibly kind. I also like that even if you go at the same time every day there could be a different instructor which keeps you feeling like you are doing something new. They each have their own style and part in the class that they like. The workouts are fairly well rounded with lots of stretching, isometric holds and pulses and even a slight cardio burst. You can modify anything any time which I like because those legs get to screaming at me! Typically at the end of class there is a relaxed breathing that helps you start the day off right. There was a change in hands about a year ago and while the other owners did a great job, I can see some great and positive changes happening. I also wanted to mention sometimes they have themed classes. The most recent were Wicked and the Life of a Showgirl. They had prizes and treats and had some fun decorations up.
