Every time I have shopped in the past, I've been told that nothing in the remnant box is over $4.99 a yard. But, the woman insisted that it was still $8.99 a yard and she didn't know how that piece got in the remnant box. OK... Shady AF...No sale! Had she done the right thing, she would've made a very large sale because I needed fabric for multiple projects. Instead, I went to the Fabric Basement in Alexandria and was treated very fairly and got some quality fabrics. I do miss the previous owner, rest in peace, because he was a very honorable and my family frequented this store for about 40 years with no issues.

I accompanied my cousin as she had a hair and makeup appointment with Kiran on a Saturday afternoon. My cousin brought her clothes with her that she planned on wearing that night as well as the jewelry needed. This was good as it made getting ready a lot easier. It did slightly bother and annoy me that my cousin paid ~$200, but because Kiran was the only beautician available, every 20-30 minutes, my cousin's work would be interrupted so that Kiran could do someone's eyebrow threading. This all worked out in the end, but what if my cousin had a shorter timeline for the work to be done in? I would have wanted the salon to ensure that another staff member was there to take care of walk-in appointments. I'll be honest, I did not feel Kiran took too many suggestions from my cousin and did more of what she wanted than what my cousin wanted. I also felt that because she kept losing time on the walk-in appointments, Kiran rushed through some of my cousin's procedure. Ex: Nails could have used another coat of polish, lashed should have been trimmed because they looked very unnaturally long, the eyebrows were colored in too dark... My cousin just kept being told that it was too late to make any changes. Kiran also did my cousin's henna/mehndi the night before and did a pretty great job with the designs. Kiran was very nice and I do know she works hard (standing on her feet the whole day), but if the day was any busier than it was, I don't think it's fair to charge such a fee if time is not just dedicated to one client.

Everyone wears a name tag (as someone who is not good with names, I LOVE this!). At the beginning of class everyone does an introduction. Everyone was so friendly and it was a very nice community. The area is cute and there are restaurants nearby to grab a bite to reward yourself. The instructor was very kind and patient with the students! Add to it calendar immediately after you receive confirmation for the class because the time doesn't show up in your email confirmation. There's plenty of parking nearby. Most parking allows for up to 3 hours (max). I recommend checking out the shop. They also still fabrics and other items. Don't judge my finished product too harshly

The instructor (Valerie, I believe) was very detailed in her instructions that included threading a machine, debugging, ironing, sewing different stitches and lengths, assembling and dissembling the machine, and making a mini pillow. After she demoed different steps, she would have us try and wandered the room quickly correcting us if something wasn't quite right. We also had to repeat each action twice to develop the muscle memory. There are classes available for all things a beginning sewer needs to know up to how to make your own bodice at advance levels. The store has patterns, fabric, and take-home kits. If you cannot make a scheduled workshop, you can do the lesson over private instruction. I had followed YouTube instructions before and done lots of searches trying to figure out how to sew with limited success. This class multiplied my knowledge by 1000 and helped me identify what I was doing wrong on my own so I could course correct. If you're interested in learning to sew, this is your place!

The interior is cute with a modest selection of yarn, needles, and other accessories. The skein I bought was reasonably priced, but since I'm a new knitter, relative value is still unclear. I took the beginner knitting class and the instructors were great. They give you one-on-one attention and focus on your learning style and your strengths. I learned the basics and will definitely be going back for more lessons. All-in-all I really dig this place and will definitely be back.
