I like this record shop. As a part time collector and music enthusiast with a creative background, I enjoy digging in the crates looking for obscure records that I can experiment pulling samples from. Final Edge has a decent selection and I have found a few hidden gems there. Most of the pricier records, I already have in some form so I'm just going in there looking for bargain bin records or collections. The last time I walked out of there, I believe I had 10 records for $4. If I'm not careful, I could spend hours in here just looking through records. I saw some reviews on google before I went recently and I thought at first I thought it was just some boomers complaining but they were kind of right, when you walk in you're not even greeted the dudes at the store were too busy talking to each other no type of assistance or even recommendations. Vinal Edge is my all time favorite record shop in Houston! I visit usually once a week to dig and find vintage vinyl records to add to my extensive collection! Always feel the prices are fair and reasonable and a solid value. I have even purchased a couple of holy grails on my wish list of their wall of fame, including an amazing original copy of Aerosmith's Honkin On Bobo! Great store! You should check it out! read more

Located in the heart of the Heights near the hip and historic part on 19th street near Yale. Very packed old school vinyl and music store. Like to swing by to check out the indie and folk inventory; fav's include Wild Nothing, Beach House, Tame Impala, etc which they do carry. Their inventory is mostly composed of new vinyls from various artists that are sold at MSRP or slightly above what you could find online. Only complaint is that their used vinyl inventory is limited and a bit overpriced. Was expecting a bunch of stuff at $2 or less but maybe those days are gone. read more

Came here to check out their vinyl collection, pleasantly surprised with wide range of Indie bands. There seems to be an extensive collection of CDs too. The downside, compare to the vinyl previously bought online, their vinyl tend to be more expensive. I'm glad this is located in the Heights since no neighborhood is complete without a record store. I dig the location and how they get new inventory more often than I've seen with other stores. Their stock seems more pricy than others and I wish they had more of a diverse selection with most of their items being classic rock, jazz, and r&b. There's some rap/hip-hop, electronic, and metal here but you might have to head to another store for a more expansive selection in those genres. It's not gonna stop me from coming here every once in a while since I love browsing a record store when I want to kill time. read more

Cool store, I've been frequenting Vinal Edge since they were at their old location. They've got a good selection, little pricey. I guess they have to pay those high Heights taxes The staff is utterly useless. They don't even acknowledge your presence. If I have time, I make it a point to check out at least one local record store when I'm in a new city. I was in Houston for a music fest and had some daylight hours to kill before day 2. Vinyl Edge was a few blocks from my hotel. What a great record store! It was the day before RSD, so it wasn't crowded like it was going to be the following day (and TBH, RSD has grown from a necessity for collectors into a bloated day of reprints most of us don't need). The selection is pretty impressive. I picked up some records from the clearance, recent trade-in, the jazz, metal, and general rock sections. Records ranged from $2 (!) to $18 for me, including some I've looked for a long time (Ornette Coleman's "Shape of Jazz to Come") to pleasant surprises (Young Widows). There were catalogue titles I rarely see in stores (Nirvana, The Cure) which will save you on discog/ebay shipping and fees even if these were mostly out of my willing pay range for the day. I was out with a stack of records in great shape for $65, best record store haul I've had in a lonnnng time. Note--sign posted that they opened at 10, we hung out till 10:10 and they did finally open. No issues with service other than that. read more

Friendly/Joyful Record shop with an amazing staff. On my first visit, the record playing caused me to stay an extra hour just to browse around. Highlights : The International Section is quite impressive. Vinal Edge's selection is unique & often holds rarities; which I appreciate as a collector. During my second visit; I delivered a few records to sell & I was rude to the owner due to my own impatience. Still! The very next day after my vinyls were catalogued , I was still offered a high price for sale value. & Trade In is even better considering the new items you'd leave with. I definitely will return. Could this be the David to Amoeba's Goliath? Just the funkiest collectible store full of vinyl records as well as gear that supports playing them. It's groovy this format of music has survived and found new generations of fans ("...uh a 'C-D'.. wutz that, Granny?"). There are compact discs here also. Y'all know Amoeba Music is where Californians go to dig around and reminisce about childhood music obsessions and pick up a vintage thing or two commemorating your nostalgic trip. Well, Texas has Vinal Edge. I imagine it doing gangbusters business if it sprang up in Jamaica (or Cuba too), i.e. places where vinyl remains a popular preferred form of music sharing and communication among artists and plebeians alike. Vinal Edge (not to be confused with Vinyl Edge - snark snark) is one of my most frequented brick and mortar establishments besides my job and maybe Trader Joe's on Shepherd. I am an avid record collector - my collection spans across 33 genres and sub-genres of music from 1940 through today. I like Vinal Edge for what I call my "Emo Bear" stuff. Emo Bear Music is a term I use for music produced and distributed from the early 90's through early 2000's. If this genre were going to manifest into a Care Bear, the music would be Emo Bear. Vinal Edge is also a pretty sweet spot for the occasional breakbeat or drum n' bass record from the same era. I even found a pretty sweet breakbeat jazz compilation primarily featuring Rabbit in the Moon. I am a HUGE HUGE blues and jazz collector but I've never scored those genra gems there. If there's ever a new release but not super hot off the press, sometimes you can find an open copy there; like I just bought an open copy of Vance Joy's Lay it on Me. Definitely stop by if you're out of town and want to check out one of Houston's finest record shops. read more

Hey records! Who knew people still buy these... it's like opting for a stick shift. At least they's got a big selection (as compared to stores that don't see records) and their prices are only slightly more than half-price books and ebay (the places were I previously knew I could get records). This is one of those spots where you know what you're getting into and what its gonna be like and yet you still end up going there. I'm going to be fair and say that they have a decent selection of new and used vinyl. However some of their selection is overpriced. The store is organized, which I give props to but the customer service is non-existent!! First of all, we've been here more times to count and none of those times have we ever been acknowledged by the staff. No "hello", "how are you doing?" "May we help you with anything?" nada. This recent time we've visited, my bf was looking at the glass displays to see what kind of turntable needles they had, and an employee rushed past in front of us without even saying "excuse me." Again, no one asked if we needed help. I'm just a big believer in businesses being grateful to their customers. I'm not saying that employees need to hound you in the store but just simply acknowledging you would be nice! After all, returning customers keep places in business! I live in San Francisco now but try to swing by whenever I'm back in Houston. This record store is far out (of town), but it's also faaaar oooout. The owner knows his stuff, and he has good taste. Mostly punk, noise, rock, and other hard sort of records, but if you're looking for something that's not in those categories you might want to call ahead and see if he has it in one of the massive rows of records. It's a really good browsing store, and it's got a lot of heart. Prices aren't exorbitant, but you'll get what you pay for here (he knows what the good records are!). read more

Rude Rude Rude. After spending close to forty-five minutes looking for a parking spot, one finally opened up, but we found that an inconsiderate driver had blocked the only handicapped ramp between two city blocks. That experience set the tone for what was to come. We were about to enter this store when the man behind the counter glared at me and said. "You can't bring that in here. We just got in (a collection something or other), and there is no room!". The THAT he was referring to was my mobility scooter that I need to get around after a bad fall severed my Achilles tendon. Even after the tendon's repair, I still cannot stand for long periods of time. We travel all over the world with the scooter. This is a travel model that allows me to make tight turns. I understand some places are cramped, but the attitude of this person coupled with the scowl on his face communicated his sentiment loud and clear. We live forty-five miles each way from the Heights, and when we visit we go to a number of shops. This experience left me with a bad taste in mouth. I try to support small stores whenever possible, but after this encounter I'll stick to mail order and Discogs. As we were leaving, one young lady said, "Sorry!" The store needs more employees like her who show empathy. read more

The people working the store are always personable and eager to assist you in your quest for new music. The pricing is reasonable and you can always look it up on Amazon/Discogs to see if you're getting a good deal. I tend to fish through the unpriced/.99 cent bins and always find worthy treasures to take home...don't disregard them! Small in size, but with a great used and new cd collection that will cover the tastes of those who like popular, those who like heavy, and those who want something different.
