five stars just for the decor in the store. sig's lagoon is so cozy and well decorated. it has lots of options and i love that they give free store stickers!!! we particularly enjoyed the second floor because it had a lot of what we were looking for. it was labeled by artist which was really helpful as well and made looking for vinyls quick and convenient. we got two used vinyls from wings and led zeppelin for around $20. i think they were a bit cheaper, if not the same, here then they would be elsewhere. it was a bit hot on the second floor but nothing unbearable. i really like how the staircase wall is decorated at well :) would come again! read more

The space includes two floors and ranges from jazz to rock to new age albums. There is something for everyone and the staff was friendly. My girlfriend and I just started collecting vinyl. We found a few records at Best Buy, Target or Walmart but really wanted to find cool variants and rarer releases. This store is the answer! As soon as you walk in you know you're in a special place. So much to see. You won't know which direction to walk in first. The staff is very nice and helpful as well. The GPS will not lead you to the correct place, but the panic you have when you realize they close in 15 minutes and you drove all this way is worth it once you get inside. This hole in the wall place is FILLED with records, both new albums like the brand new Lorde vinyl and unique things I've never seen anywhere else. They have a Mondo section. They have a Record Store Day section. They have a soundtracks section so large my head almost popped off. There was a girl taking senior photos against the rows of vinyls, which also added to the aesthetic a bit I think. There was an upstairs we never made it to due to timing, but thank goodness we only had a few minutes because we already had 5 records and they are not cheap. They play "Closing Time" by Semisonic when it's time to go. I can't tell if it's funny or kind of rude, but I smirked a bit while pointing it out to my boyfriend so he'd make his way to the register. If you love records, you HAVE to come here. There's bound to be something - or fifteen somethings - you'll need to add to your collection. read more

Sig's Lagoon reminds me of a record store (but better) from my youth...it has great retro style, always good music playing and namely one of the best organized shops I've ever experienced. This used to be my favorite store to visit when in Houston. Lots of stock, good variety of genres, and they had a special section for 12" records. I always walked out of there with something. I don't know what has transpired over the last year or so but damn...has it gone to hell. First - the prices are ridiculous. Way over priced. For example: I want your sex by George Michael is in every $5 used record bin in the country. They have it for $12. You can buy one in mint condition and have it shipped to your house from Europe for less than $12. My son likes hip hop, so I perused what they had. The Outkast Stankonia lp was $25 used - you can buy it for 28 brand new. On the wall, they had a prince record store Day release with a price tag on it for $81. Another record store in the area had the same thing about 10 copies of it for the actual retail price of $30. The Weekend lp - $15 dollars cheaper everywhere else It's price gouging pure and simple - which on RSD stuff is strictly forbidden. While we are on the subject of RSD, they were unpacking a lot of stuff so I asked if they were getting ready for Black Friday. The clerk then proceeded to "mansplain" to me how record store day works. First, I've probably been buying records since before he was born. In addition, not only have I worked in record stores but I also have an LLC for my own record store. Thanks for the mansplain though - dick. I'm surw whatever they we're unpacking will be priced 10 to $20 higher than everywhere else. There are far better record stores in the Houston area with lower prices and less attitude. I don't understand how they stay in business with those prices. This is a perfect example of a record store that sells records to people who don't know how to buy records. We first stopped in this place a few weeks ago and I cannot believe that I waited as long as I did to check it out! First things first, the place is downtown so parking is a hot mess. If you're lucky to snag a spot in front, more power to ya, but if you're like me then you're gonna have to park along the side streets and make the short walk to the door. Not too bad during the week, but on weekends, parking is hard to find. Now to the good stuff. I love their selection and lay out! Downstairs consists of new vinyl, soundtracks, hip-hop/rap and r&b, soul and their bargain bins! Make sure to look at the bins on the floor because for sure you're going to find some awesome gems. When we visited, we found a lot of great bargain records for $1-$3, good deal. Upstairs is full of used records and more bargain bins. You can spend literally spend hours here and you'll still find more and more stuff. Like I said, I love their lay out of their store, I think that they have everything organized pretty well but I just don't like how small the walk ways are. If 2 people are trying to navigate the same aisle, you're both bound to be in a stand off on which one of you is going to move out of the way just so that the other person can walk through. Not a big deal but it's a downer, especially when you're digging your way through the crates on the floor. The gentleman who was behind the counter during our visit was very nice and when I asked about a particular vinyl he came out to help me look for it. My other small issue with this place is that they don't have a public restroom. Not cool, especially if you plan to be here for a long time digging. It was my first time there and I loved it so much. I felt like a child at a candy store. This place has everything! The prices vary, but there are many affordable finds. I bought 7 vinyls and they were all $3-$10. I found so many great artist like Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Dion, Billie Holiday, Bing Crosby and soo many others I wish I had more time to look through every record. Side note* Don't park at the food stop across the street. You'll probably get towed. I attempted to and a man (possibly the owner) watched my friend and I enter Sig's. Staring us down. Sig's is a really special place. I love visiting record stores with charm and character, and it really fits the bill. The walls are plastered with all kinds of music posters - While the place is small, and sometimes challenging to walk through if it's busy, it boasts a really impressive selection of vinyl, both old and new. They have bargain bins, too, which is great. Prices are all across the board here - you'll find some good prices, and maybe some not-so-good prices, but all in all, you'll find something you love here. The other cool thing are the various little knick knacks and things Sig's sells. they have one of the raddest -shirt designs I've ever seen, and they even have tiki mugs for sale there! Be sure to check those out - they have had different styles every time I've walked in there. The owner and staff are all super pleasant, too, and they will happily play a record for you if you wish to try before you buy. Parking can be a bit of an issue, since it's all street parking, but if you're patient, you can usually find a spot. But it's in a cute area, where a cup of coffee or a taco are just a short walk away from the shop. Definitely didn't live up to the Yelp hype in my book. All off there more expensive used records were all scratched and not in good condition... at least all the ones I was interested in. I'm a collector, but also play my vinyl treasures on a daily basis. I've spent $100's to even over $1,000 on a few records. They had lots of $50+ records that ere in pretty poor condition. The new record selection wasn't fantastic, but not terrible either. Very tough to find a parking place anywhere near the store front as well. I will certainly give them another chance though. read more
