The Short Version: Don't call them for a large job if you don't have a plan. Steve was not interested in working with us to make one or even recommend a landscape architect that can.... Long Version: I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed about my interactions with Vince's Landscaping in an attempt to get a quote. I had used their electronic form to attempt to contact them and got a reply; however, when I replied back nothing.... Finally after a few weeks of trying to reach them by email I called. I described the scope of our work ( gut and re-do our entire front yard including the hardscape & driveway) and the person at the office set me up with an appointment at 3pm a few weeks later ( the only time they had for the next month) so I had to take some time off work to meet. When Steve showed up we talked for a little bit about what we wanted and then he basically told us he wasn't interested in giving us a bid until we had a plan drawn up and then abruptly left. I had to take time off work for him to come and tell me he wasn't interested in doing the job without a plan?? What a waste of time! I had discussed the scope of work when I made the appointment so I really wish they would have mentioned that for a large job they would only quote if there was a plan made..... Also, at least recommend someone that might be able to help us make a plan if that's what's necessary..... read more

He gave excellent advice and was very flexible in implementing our ideas. Jose and Jaime, as foremen, did an amazing job with their crew in completing our vision for the backyard. The crew was on time everyday and worked diligently until 4:00 everyday. At the end of each day they throughly cleaned up after themselves. I am very disappointed. I used Vince's Landscaping about 25 years ago at my old house and was very pleased with his work, so he was the first to come to mind to call to redo the front and backyards of my current home. Over a three week period I left two phone calls and a detailed email on their website, including four pictures, explaining what I would like to have done, new plantings, deck, pergola, firepit area, etc. When calling to set up an appointment for an estimate the recorded message said they were taking on new clients, asked if I was a previous client and had plans, or were willing to use their in-house design team, which I was more than willing to do. I don't know what more I could have done to contact them to get a reply. If, for whatever reason they are unable to do my job, at least a courtesy call back would have been very much appreciated. read more

I did my homework and got 3 estimates and Steven beat the others by let's just say a lot. We needed retaining walls, concrete slabs, fences, all went seamlessly. Vince's Landscaping did a wonderful job installing our new garden in the front yard. Adam worked from a design that we had done, and we made adjustments as needed. Adam made it easy. He is knowledgeable and personable, and focused on making his customers happy. Adam has followed through on every detail, and taken care of issues as they have arisen. Lalo, the foreman was excellent as well. He did an excellent job, and was easy to work with, and make changes as we went along. His helpers were very nice as well. As others, we searched yelp reviews and company websites and chose three contenders. The first contact indicated that they were not accepting any new jobs; the second we met in person and were not impressed; and our last call was to Vince's Landscaping. Sometimes, no matter how much you research, things don't gel. However, in our case, sometimes you just get lucky! That's how we felt after speaking with Vince by phone for the first time last year December 2017. Vince was completely honest and stated that he was booked out until late February 2018. We were comfortable with that since we purposely contacted these contractors during the winter with the hopes of having the yard completed by late spring. We set a date to meet at our home to discuss our wishes. Unlike many homeowners we had no exact plan for the renovations. We only knew that our front and backyards had not been updated (with the exception of a back deck - 1990) since the home was built in 1962. The trees and plants had been kept up, but everything else was in disrepair. Meeting Vince was a pleasure. He has an outgoing personality with plenty of energy. But more importantly Vince is a professional. That day we mapped out some improvements we desired. Vince delivered his estimate within a few days and we agreed to it. The job didn't begin until the start of March which was pretty much on target. The initial items agreed upon were: new bi-level deck with some type of cable railing and lighting with some ground level pavers (back); split 2 rail fence (front); new stone planter boxes throughout front and backyards (including wood planter boxes in front courtyard); lawn borders front and back; and elimination and redesign of one section of front lawn (720 sq ft). If you are open to options, then allow Vince to create your drought resistant garden. We let him design the area and it is perfect: colorful plants and flowers, a gorgeous stream bed, different elevations, boulders, and just the right lighting to set it off. Our project took two months to complete. With the exception of a few rain out days, the crew arrived timely each day (including occasional Saturdays). They were hardworking, personable, and talented men. The quality of their work was exceptional. Jose led our crew and was extremely creative and definitely a perfectionist. He spent individual time with his workers, and it was evident that he was a good teacher and that his team respected him. It's important that we acknowledge the ability of one of his men, Lalo, who is a craftsman when it comes to working with stone. A special thanks to each and every one of our crew. You're the best! One final comment. Vince, Jose, and their team are flexible regarding changes or additions. We constantly asked "what if" questions for sections of the yard that needed help for which we had no answers. Their suggestions resulted in adding a second back deck (Jose's creativity), river rock surrounding our front magnolia trees, a colored stone walkway leading to second deck (Jose), great lighting and fixtures, and the most gorgeous handmade natural gas stone fire pit located in the paver area of back deck with lights on the pit no less (Lalo and Edgar). After reading all the wonderful reviews we decided to give Vince's Landscaping a try. After emailing back and forth with a Steven Martino he setup a time; 9am on Friday May 16th. That worked for us and we agreed to the meeting, this was on Tuesday May 13th mind you. Come Thursday morning I got a voicemail stating he wouldn't be able to make our appointment. Why? WHAT?!?! I personally believe if you claim to be a professional company and you're the one who makes the appointment and not the client you should know you're own schedule and not double book clients! This is bad business and shows how unorganized a company is! ****UPDATE***** I just got a personal email from Steven Martino stating that yelp review is incorrect and I must have him confused with another landscaper. I did have my day mixed up he didn't leave me a message Friday May 16th it was Thursday May 15th, but still I don't agree with a company not sticking to they're own appointment. I understand emergencies come up but that should be explained in the original email or voicemail. He didn't seemed to care about our needs as a potential client. I did respond to his voicemail with an email on Thursday May 15th stating I would reach out to me to reschedule at that point I was PISSED off I took off work to make this appointment! Now june 11th NO FOLLOW UP till I post my review. If you really are looking for more clients and really want to please them I think a company should make more of an effort! Vince came out to give me an estimate for some yard work and the experience was top notch. I didn't know what I wanted to do and he helped me with some concepts and put together a quote with numerous options. I was very comfortable with him. His communication was excellent and he really knows his stuff. Vince was great and his quality of work is very high, but when I did some price comparisons I found his quote to be substantially higher than the three other companies. I highly recommend bringing Vince in for a quote because you probably get what you pay for, but make sure you get some competing quotes so you know where his prices stand. read more

I was looking on Yelp and Angie's list for landscapers and Vince's landscaping came up. For the most part, they got good reviews so I decided to give them a chance. I called them up and Steven called me back and we set up an appointment for him to come and look at my backyard. Steven came when he said he would, he listened to my needs and we came up with a design that fitted my family's needs. We have a 2 year old son and we wanted a flat surface with grass where he could play and where we could lay in the back when the nights were warm. A few weeks later Steven and his crew came to my house and started their job. Steven projected the job would take about 5 days and he did not disappoint. They uprooted about 5 small trees, took out our existing wood patios that were in bad condition, took out a wooden wall, put up a rock wall and put in pavers where we could place our outdoor table and chairs and BBQ grill. They also built rock steps that lead to our backyard. 9/21/14 Editing my review. It's been a month or so now since my backyard was done. We love it. I do have a complaint and I just emailed Vince's and waiting for a response. 12/17/2014 An update that's well over due. I've spoken to Steve and Eva a while back and come to find out, it was not the workers fault. Unfortunately I had to get another company to fix the problem and unfortunately the nice step that was built by Vince's landscaping had to be partially destroyed to fix it. Once the problem was fixed I contacted Steve and we arranged a date so they can rebuild the step again. Vince's team did an amazing job converting a wasp filled brown dirt yard that a previous owner has probably salted into a perfect play area for kids with soft astroturf and a brand new redwood fence. They installed proper drainage, paid attention to the smallest details, and finished in no time. They also did a new concrete pad to match a different section. Pure perfection! We've worked with Vince's Landscaping multiple times, and love the way they work - responsive, practical, timely, cost-conscious, and environmentally conscious, while delivering a high quality and beautiful end-product. Perhaps one of the best indications of this is that random people walking by our house often stop to take pictures and tell us how much they like the design. I've given out the phone number for Vince's Landscaping multiple times since our project was completed. We worked with them once many years ago on a temporary small backyard redo, and we were so happy with their work that we called them again last year when we were ready to do our complete-yard full landscaping project after our renovation. We worked with Steve Martino, and his extended team of Vince's professionals. Things we have really appreciated about working with Vince's Landscaping: - Responsive - Steve would always respond to emails and texts in a reasonable amount of time, within a day at most, if not immediately. - Sensible pricing - on both of our projects Steve worked with us to find appropriate solutions that fit our budget, identifying areas where we could cut corners, and areas where we couldn't. - Work completed in a timely manner - the crew was on-site every day with many people, all working hard. Even though it was a big project that took awhile to complete, it was obvious that they were putting in a major effort to complete the project as quickly as possible. - The foreman, Esteban, was very detail oriented and understanding - if we mentioned one or two things that we wanted done a certain way Esteban would make sure it happened. - Great customer service - we were able to get some materials manufactured from a 3rd party vender quickly instead of weeks later due to Steve's relationship with the vendor. Also, a few months after the project was completed Steve came back to check on the various plantings, and in addition to replacing a few plants that weren't flourishing in their particular location, they completed some new plantings (including fruit trees) and irrigation that we decided to add on - for free. Vince's is certainly not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. They did a huge backyard reno for me - a very difficult hillside that was overgrown and ugly. After a lot of demo, they recommended adding a small rock wall to hold the hillside back. It looks gorgeous. The crew knows what they are doing and they are extremely hard workers. And Steve knows his plants/trees. The recommendations he made resulted in a stunning oasis of a backyard. I've had people tell me the backyard will "sell" my house! And he made some changes to my front yard as well - adding a tree and beautiful flowers surrounding it. I've had landscaping done before -- and waited 2-3 years to see the plants bloom/fill in. Within 2-3 weeks of the completion, my yard was colorful and you could tell the plants were happy. Steve also is great at follow-through. He came by several times while I was out of town to make sure the irrigation was perfect - even hand-watering until he got it right. That's service! read more

Vince's landscaping has just completed transforming our property in Benicia and we could not be happier, it's now a beautiful yard complete with 3 seating areas and even lights in the front of the house. They replaced all of our grass areas with paver and flagstone seating areas, a beautiful garden using a selection of low water plants, bark and a drip system throughout. Vince did a fine job in updating and enhancing our 22-year-old landscaping. We worked with his recommended designer (who unfortunately selected some 'deer resistant' plants for the front that were rapidly chewed to the ground). But most of the design worked well. Once installation started it went well, and at our request, Vince included items (different timer, different edging) than he usually installs. During installation, the workers were receptive to our tweaking of plant placement, etc. Caveats: Vince is very busy and it took months to get the project underway, and quite a time to get replacements for the few plants that didn't make it. I'm coming full circle, back to Yelp where I originally found Vince's Landscaping, to give them an outstanding review! I had a pretty good instinct back when I met with Steve and got an estimate. Not just that they would get it done, at a competitive price, but also that they'd do it right. And now that our job was just completed -- I couldn't be much happier. They delivered big time. Our job included landscape, hardscape, and even stonework on the front of the house. I'm pretty particular about how things turn out, and they did a great job on all the little details that add up to the big picture. We came in with a pretty well versed plan, but even that was improved and evolved along the way by Steve and Esteban who oversaw many of the day-to-day operations. After interviewing multiple contractors last year to do a re-landscape of our 1/2 acre yard, we chose Vince's. We could not be happier. Both the lawn and large shrub areas turned out incredible! We frequently have people that are walking or driving by stop and compliment how great the yard looks. Vince and his team went above and beyond with many little details we would not have even thought of. Over this past winter, several of the plants died from the harsh weather and Vince willingly sent a team out to replace the plants as well as perform some fine tuning to the sprinkler system. Sadly this is the second negative review I have written on Yelp. We had an appointment with Vince. He called prior to the appointment and I let him know we were in the middle of excavation and grading. He said no problem that he would reschedule for the next week. Sure enough I got a call from the office and we rescheduled. Vince never showed up and we never received a call. Totally wasted our time because we made sure we were home and we waited and waited. Common courtesy is very important and if you want to at least appear credible, you need to do what you say you are going to do. I have a rental property on Shell Ave - literally less than one mile from this company. I called yesterday to ask for a bid to install sod in the front yard. I did receive a phone call back and that's why I'm giving 2 stars, but I was told that they are booked until mid-December I'm fine with that but I would like a bid since I need to budget how much I'm going to spend on the landscaping. The woman who returned my call said she can not get me a bid for a least TWO WEEKS. I mentioned that this home is less than a mile from her office address and that the yard is small.... Strange that someone can't swing by in the next couple of days to measure and give me a quote. Seems this company has too much business to care about good customer service to possible new clients. I had taken an afternoon off from work and set up an appointment with another landscaping company for a consultation. They were a last minute no show. I called Steven and as luck would have it he was in the area and able to come by the same day. Understanding that I was looking to do most of the work myself, Steven was able to answer all my questions and give some really solid advice on key things to consider with the design I had in mind. The consultation was efficient, complete, and fast. Given the scope of work he actually refused payment for his services. Should I need landscaping services in the future Steven will be the first person I call. He clearly knows his stuff and I was left with a strong impression that he builds business through great customer service, not nickel and diming. read more

This review is long overdue, sorry about that Steve. Vince's Landscaping was awesome in every way. Steve, who initially came out to look at the job had great ideas, was funny, and patient when I wanted to ask questions and make it sound like I knew anything about landscaping. He was also not a creep like some of the other people we had to deal with. I think the job was relatively simple for the guys - small lawn area, irrigation, and pavers. Nothing crazy like like fountains, steps, hillsides, grottos, or anything like that. They handled everything professionally, cleanly, and quickly. The workers were nice, and fast. Even when there was a mis-delivery of pavers, they were able to take them out and get the new ones in really quickly. Steve has been patient with all of my questions, even four months after the job was done. Oh, the price was great. They fit everything (and then some) within our budget. We quoted five or six places, and they were on par or a bit higher than all, but like someone else mentioned, you get what you pay for. If you need anything done, don't hesitate to check them out, I can't imagine you regretting it. read more

What a disappointing experience i had with "Vince" himself. I had made an appointment for an estimate to have my backyard landscaped 2 weeks prior. We spent about 1/2 hour talking about the job, and he had no ideas or input. His main response was "What else?" After i had gone over everything, I asked him if he had any other ideas or input. He said "You'll have a yard." "Ill send you an estimate in a week." The week passed and i sent him a message with my email address, in case it was misplaced. We contacted Vince's at the end of March and waited 2 weeks to have someone come by to look at our yard and give us an estimate. We decided we'd at least make an appointment because no one else had even showed up from the other companies we called or they said they would and never came. When Steven showed up, he gave us a great idea of what needed to be done based on what we told him we wanted. He actually had to come back the next day to talk to my husband because there were a lot of questions. We put a deposit down and decided when to start the work. They were booked solid so they scheduled the start date for our yard for the beginning of May. They did get a little delayed with our start however, when they got started, it took a couple weeks to complete our front and back yard. Steven was very prompt with returning calls or emails with questions. The guys who worked on our yard cleaned up before they left everyday and little by little our yard came together. I would recommend Vince's to anyone because they do quality work, they're always in communication and dependable. read more
