I randomly came across this establishment and was pleasantly surprised! Normally, picking out a bottle of wine can take me forever because there are so many options. What's great about Vine Wine is how neatly categorized the wine selection is. Convenient labels like "under $15" and "for desert" helped me pick up a bottle in no time! Why? Why does the staff have to be so rude? Why must it be so pretentious? Why don't they greet me when I come in? Why do they barely acknowledge me as I decided whether to spend money in their store? Why don't they thank me after I do spend money? Why do they think they're the only wine shop in town? I was visiting a friend in the area on a Wednesday night. We stopped in for a brief visit to try the wine tasting. This particular night was white wines from a variety of places in central and eastern Europe. Not only was the server very knowledgeable, but the wines were really fantastic and not very expensive! Excellent wine shop close to the Metropolitan Ave G stop. They have old world vs. new world section. They also have a section for wines under $15. I was going to a BYOB painting class nearby, so I stopped in to get a nice bottle of Carmenere. My bottle was from Chile and a good solid wine. Medium-bodied, dry and good to the last drop. I've bought wine here 3-4 times a week since you guys opened and the past few months have brought the most unfriendly, obnoxious staff in the whole neighborhood. A ktchen in the back, doling out nice cheeses and wine tastings. The friendliest folks work here. They give out cute carry bags with purshase. I bought a Spanish sherry for $14.95. Was overcharged for the bottle I purchased, apologized and told that the label was wrong, and asked if I wanted to return it. Obviously I didn't want to return it over a small price difference, but I should have been credited the difference between the advertised and overcharged price, no questions asked. My husband and I have been going to Vine for 4 years now, and we want to LOVE it. Maybe our expectations are high, but we enjoy how thoughtful the window displays are.. we enjoy the selection of wine. But we hate.. HATE the mightier than thou- mentally that plagues every ONE of their employees. No one is friendly, no one says hello and we have the most awkward encounters there.. We live down the block for pete's sake - we frequent this place OFTEN. I get it, people who live and breath wine take themselves wayyy seriously, but honestly I am live by the catch more bees with honey mentality. An absolute delight. I walk in armed with little more than a need for a gift and some vague, scattered tasting notes. The store is welcoming and bright, and the shelves attractively, attentively stocked with an array of varieties at a range of prices...and always end up with a beautiful bottles that are carefully wrapped and bagged (gift ready!) that I feel confident about. They have tastings every Wednesday night, which I thoroughly enjoy as it introduces me to many different kinds and varieties of wine. A hip feeling little wine shop. The service here was friendly and the selection was decent. It is a SMALL shop but we found 2 bottles for under $10- they actually had 20 bottles for under $10. They had helpful write-ups tagged on select bottles. Whenever you can find wine for under $10 it is always a good thing! The Merlot from Chile Terra Andina was excellent- a little young and mild- us Californians like our wine BOLD :) But it has a smooth finish and lingers nicely. My favorite wine store in all nyc. Astor wines is second favorite cuz it's massive, but Vine has never let me down with the great selection and solid recommendations from lovely staff. Their corkscrew bottle opener has never failed me. I really appreciate the window displays and the sandwich board newsfeed. I used to work nearby and walking by Vine I would nod and give a little mental thumbs up. For these reasons I will continue to go out of my way to visit Vine for all my wino needs. My very favorite new addition to the neighborhood. Here's the breakdown. Stars 1-2: For an excellent and diverse selection. Their hand-selected array of wines leaves no room for your Yellow Tails or Little Penguin types. From the tastings (see below) I have sampled quite a few & everything has been great. I know what I like, but trust that the excellent collection will turn me on to some new vineyards. You can do no wrong here. Prices are totally reasonable. Star 3: The owners are awesome. They invite distributors to come and provide wine tastings (beautiful setup) every Wednesday 6-9pm (?) and sometimes on the weekends. The staff is very knowledgable and each wine selection has a cute handwritten note that describes the contents. Personality shines through. Star 4: "Nice" boxed wines & rewards card. (All of the selections are tasty, but the one with a French frog surfing on a baguette is my fav!) Buy 12 wines and then take the average price as a discount towards your next purchase. I like Vine WIne. They put a lot of care into what they do. The hanging descriptions show a great deal of interest in their selections (although smaller tags might not cover the entire label). They also take feedback well, and have added some awesome selections. All in all, the neighborhood is lucky to have this little spot. Maybe a tad bit pricey, but I guess that is what it takes to make a great contribution to the neighborhood. This is my primary wine store. They have a good selection, a ton of bottles under $15, interesting booze from local and small batch producers. The staff is super helpful and don't just direct you to the most expensive bottles, but really try to find something that fits for your circumstance (budget and occasion). They have a large format selection that is perfect for large dinner parties. These aren't jug wines, but respectable wines in large format bottles. There are some really interesting selections from California, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria, and other lesser known wine producing countries like Slovenia and Greece. The Wednesday Wine and Saturday Spirit tastings are a must. They try to get producers in to pour when possible. You get to know a ton about what is put into the production. If driving, there is usually a spot right in front of the store or just around the corner. There is a discount on cases, so that's nice. Do read the tags on the bottles. They are informative and sometimes really funny ("like a lover's warm embrace"). read more

The place is divided so you can easily browse the options of old world vs. new world and red vs. white. The rack in the middle has their under $15 selections. I was so sad when Brooklyn Kitchen moved out of this space, but Vine Wine has definitely been able to fill that hole in my heart. Honestly, I can't say enough good things about this place! The staff is always friendly and helpful, never pushy, snooty or dismissive. They are very knowledgable about the wines that they stock, will offer you plenty of options, and know their way around a good wine/food pairing. The price tags on each bottle also offer a description of the wine, so there is no need to be intimidated by the selection here, even if you are not yet familiar with the small production vineyards who's wine they stock. There is a wide variety of price points in this shop, so you would be hard pressed to walk out of here without something that fits your budget. The up-scale box of wine options are excellent for parties or for the times when I just feel like having a whole lot of wine on hand (without taking up the space that bottles do in my small fridge). There is also a little liquor sections, where I have purchased a few nice 'white dog' whiskeys. An added bonus: the rewards card. After you buy 12 bottles of wine, they take the average price of your purchases and you get to choose a wine of that price to take home for free! read more

We stopped in here on a whim this Saturday on our way back from an event at Brooklyn Kitchen. We spotted it because it's conveniently right off the L (if only it weren't shutting down soon). It's a small shop, but really well curated wth tasting notes accompanying every wine and liquor they sell. We had been looking for a new gin to add to our bar and ended up grabbing a Hayman's old tom. An especially great shop to head to to buy a gift or et the right pairing for a dinner party. Do you want to try different, interesting, and most important, tasty wines that are largely at a nice price? You need to check this shop. They go for the different and they don't compromise taste. At other shops I've noticed that the tasting wines lean towards the pricey. Here, the most expensive one was 14.95. A lot of the tastings are run by the shop themselves, which is nice because usually liquor reps are given the table and they can give a car salesperson attitude towards the enterprise. The woman pouring was not knowledgeable about what she was serving, nor did she engage us in any discussion about the wines. I was disappointed in the "Americas" wine selection, especially in the lack of NY wines and the limited California wines. I guess I just don't get what they are going for. read more

Vine is a jewel of the neighborhood. The staff is knowledgable and helpful. They specialize in small batch wines and/or wineries that grow 100 percent of their own grapes. It seems as if the staff tastes every bottle of wine before they decide to sell it. (And they have amazing taste!). Great selection of wines under $15, too. One of them even dug through the refrigerated bottles to find for me already chilled versions of the bottles I was about to purchase, which was very nice!
