Vinh Hoa is one of our go to Chinese seafood place. They have tanks inside the restaurant so you know you can order live seafood including crabs, lobsters, prawns, clams, etc. The restaurant is a bit dated but, for us, it's all about the food. We ordered the Lobster with house special sauce. Lobster was delicious. While they do have a lobster special for 2 lobsters, they are a little more pricey compared to Confucius. We also ordered the razor clams with basil, fried sole fish and morning glory with garlic. The razor clams were sweet and spicy at the same time bec of the sauce. Can't get enough of the sauce! For the fried sole fish, you pour the soy sauce mixture on top. Compliments the fish. The bad thing is the tendency to eat more rice . The morning glory was good to make our meal a bit more balanced. Service is fast. It does not take long before food came out. Staff was friendly and accommodating. We had asked for more of the soy sauce mixture for the sole fish and changed plates couple of times. If you like seafood, they have a lot more variety compared to other restaurants. Aside from live Dungeness crab, they also have king crabs, abalone, spot prawns and assortment of fish. My family has been coming here to eat for years. It is one of our favorite restaurants for large family gatherings. I loved walking in and seeing the huge tanks full of fish and crabs. The restaurant is big but wasn't too packed the night my family went. This time we got the Bo lúc lắc, walnut shrimp, squid, crispy duck, beef and broccoli pan fried noodles, caramelized fish, and seafood flat noodle. The Bo lúc lắc was perfectly tender and I am a fiend for those onions as well. I am always a sucker for walnut shrimp as well, the shrimp was so flavorful and had the perfect amount of batter and crisp. The squid was ok but I really loved the sauces up onions and black beans. The duck was average, love the pickled vegetables though. The beef and broccoli pan fried noodles were perfect, all the toppings were cooked perfectly. I didn't try the caramelized fish but my family loved it. Seafood flat noodles are a classic as well. The waiters made sure to grab empty dishes and refill water cups frequently. Went to Clarewood area to dine on Christmas day, but the strip was closed. Went to Vinh Hoa across the street instead. Big mistake. Seated quickly but service was so slow. Soup (crab meat fish maw) shouldn't take long to come out even if it's busy. 45 minutes later, only water and rice on the table. Literally nibbled on rice to not starve lol. The waitress assured us that food was on the way. At one point, we asked if they could bring anything that was ready to the table. She went to go check the kitchen but we never got an update. We weren't going to wait at the 1 hour mark. Unfortunately had to go look for dinner elsewhere. I have suspicion that our food order was never put in or our food ticket might have been misplaced. We've been here so many times bcoz of fast service and food was good. Last Sunday we were here with a big group of about 25 ppl. The lady server was rude from the start but I let it go then after we were done eating. We found out she over charge us by gave us the wrong menu we ordered. She litterally upsale without confirming with us. We ordered the 10 people menu of $238 but got charged $258 bcoz she chose the wrong menu. When we asked for a manager she told us they don't have manager in house. I confronted her , she said she heard wrong and admitted that she gave us the wrong menu and apologized but surely she wasn't sincere of it. Last month we had used this facility for a birthday party of 30 people but they served for 40ppl so they charged us 10 extra. This is the 2nd time we got over charged on something we didn't order. So if you go here in a big group be extra careful. Oh then they automatically charged 20% gratuity but it wasn't listed on their menu. My last visit was disappointing. Perhaps expectations were too high or the wrong menu items were chosen this time around. Either way, my last experience left me no desire to come back here ever again. My wife and I wanted to have dinner with my family somewhere traditional so we decided to give this place a chance. Since we had eight people all together, we decided to choose a pre-set menu of soup, crab, veggies, shrimp, chicken, and more. Price was $280 for all of this (or about $35 per person before tax and tip). The food came out one by one relatively quickly, but sadly nothing caught my eye. Portions were small and some of the dishes did not taste fresh. Even just by looking at the plates, I knew in my mind that the next one was going to be a disappointment. I ordered 3 dishes, Razor clam in garlic sauce and basil, Beef black pepper on sizzling plate, and steamed Pork Belly w/ salted vegetables. I generally order several dishes because I have a huge appetite, but as the various items were being brought out I quickly realized that I had ordered too much. I've always wanted to try 永華海鲜酒家 Vinh Hoa Restaurant at Dynasty Plaza. But I was little shy. Because I don't speak Vietnamese and afraid I would order wrong food. Last night, my fear was gone after tried their food for the first time and we were happy. I finished an exhausting virtual event at work and had an extreme crave for some real Chinese food. I'm kind of tired of my own cooking after working from home for half year due to CoVid19 pandemic. I didn't want to go far. I know Dynasty Plaza has all my favorite restaurants at one location. I started with Le Lai. Yikes. The stopped selling at 7. Miam closed early too. China Gourmet already closed for the day. I was so glad to see Vinh Hoa opens till 11 pm on Friday. The staff was friendly and restaurant was nearly filled to 50% capacity. I noticed few employees speak fluent English, Chinese and Vietnamese. I ordered my food in mandarin and pointed the dish on the menu, just to be sure. I ordered takeout to feed hungry family. Everything smelled so good. Price was really reasonable compared to other Chinese restaurants in Chinatown. The beef with Chinese broccoli chow mein was very seasoned and not salty. Shrimp fried rice had lots of flavors. The most importantly, they used fresh steamed rice in the fried rice. Peking Ribs has lots of tender pork and little bones. Overall, we had a very satisfying dinner experience. I have been going here since elementary school and now as a college student it is still one of my favorite places for authentic comfort chinese/viet foods. A must have item is their razor clams and fried fish, these dishes never miss and always hits the spot. Every dish is piping hot and served with care. Here's a review of some of their dishes: - egg rolls: hot, good crunch on the outside, filling was savory and delicious, it was good, but not the best egg rolls we've eaten - stir fried vegetables: it was pretty good. It didn't have as much flavor from the heat of the wok as I'd like; but not bad for introducing others to Chinese cuisine - fried rice: pretty standard. It was ok. - fried crab legs: good. It was flavorful. Easy to eat. - lobster with ginger sauce and green onions (not pictured): this was good. It didn't have a pronounced flavor to it. I do prefer the lobster at Ocean Palace over this spot. - fried squid (also not pictured): my sis and my friend enjoyed the spicy jalapeños that came with this dish. The fried squid itself was pretty good. But, I prefer East Wall's version, since it's lighter and crispier. Overall, the food here is not too bad. What I didn't appreciate was that they already placed an 18% gratuity for our party of 6. I would like to choose what gratuity to offer in my bill. The restaurant has many glassed fish tanks on display stocked with live fish, lobsters, shrimps, Geo-Duck clam, Dungeness crabs, Razor clams (seasonal), Abalone, soft shell crabs etc. All the seafood are cooked in a variety of Cantonese and Vietnamese cooking styles. The pricing of their seafood is also very reasonable for the quality of cuisine-dishes served when compared with other similar restaurants in Chinatown Houston. The restaurant has a small selection of alcoholic beverages, mostly beers but no high-end wines. I usually brought my own wines which they would charge a corking fee of $10/bottle. This place has been in business for years but I believe that management has changed hands a time or two. I hadn't been back for dinner in years so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food. Fish clay pot: very traditional claypot made with catfish and a dark dark sauce. It wasn't too salty but not too sweet and it goes perfectly with white rice. Fried squid: amazing! Definitely one of the top five fried squid dishes in Houston. Very crispy on tbe outside but nice and chewy (not too much) on the inside. I like to get a piece with jalapeno. That little bit of spice adds to much depth to the squid. Also fantastic with rice. Fried soft shell crab: For years and years I was under the impression that only one Houston restaurant had delicious soft shell crab (Tay Do) but this place definitely gives them a run for their money. Crispy and so well seasoned. This is a must try dish. And goes great with rice. Sauteed clams: the sauce includes sauteed basil! So so so good with rice. Sour catfish soup: absolutely not for me. The recipe here is not sour at all, in fact it is a sweet soup. I have heard that this is one way to prepare this soup but I do not care for it at all. Others at my table seemed okay with it though.
