I came in last weekend looking for a gold ring and had already received a quote elsewhere, so I was shopping around to compare options. When I entered Vinh Phat, the lady--who I assume is the owner--was initially very warm, welcoming, and made eye contact right away. I explained what I was looking for, and unlike some other competitors, she was willing to give me her time despite knowing I wasn't committing to a purchase that day. She even mentioned that many traditional owners stop engaging once they know you're not buying immediately, but she wouldn't be like that. She asked me to wait about 10 minutes while she set up, and when she returned, she found exactly what I was looking for and brought it out. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill from there. I made an honest mistake by briefly taking a photo of the ring to send to my sisters for their opinion, not realizing photos were not allowed. Once I was told, I immediately deleted it. Despite this, her demeanor changed completely. She took the ring away, muttered "no pictures, you should have asked me first" and from that point on treated me as if I were a misbehaving child. I was no longer allowed to handle the ring. When I asked reasonable questions--such as weighing the gold, why it felt so light 3.2g for 6.5 size, and thinking why the ring appeared scratched, dull, and not shiny--I didn't receive clear answers. When I asked whether it might be a resale piece from other customers, she avoided the question by saying something else, which only raised more concerns and made the interaction feel dishonest. It became very clear she assumed I was no longer interested and she eventually suggested I look elsewhere. So, she ended up being similar to the other traditional competitors just with a friendlier smile to reel you in. While I appreciate that she was initially kind, patient, and different from some of the more traditional competitors, the abrupt shift in attitude over an honest mistake was disappointing and uncomfortable. I did not appreciate being treated like I was put on a time-out instead of being spoken to respectfully. For that reason, I won't be returning. My money will be invested elsewhere. read more

About a month and a half ago my wife and I brought them her ring to have resized. An older man was there to help us. We told him what we needed and he brought us over to this shady looking guy at this shady looking counter. The shady looking guy said he needed to eat lunch first. Ok, no problem. When he finally finished eating, he began resizing the ring. But right in the middle of his work, some lady came over and interrupted him. Instead of telling her to wait until he finished, he stops working on the ring to help her while my wife and I sitting there right in front of him, waiting. He finally finishes and we're satisfied with the work, even though it took much longer than what the older man said it would. Flash forward to now. Not even 2 months later my wife's ring breaks at the point where it was cut to resize. I wasn't so mad about it because I realize mistakes happen and thought I would bring it back and they'd fix it for me. When I returned the older man was there from when we first brought the ring in. He remembered me and the ring. The problem is he wanted to charge me $35 to have it fixed. Why should I pay again for the poor work done by your guy? I asked him shouldn't it be free and he said no, but he'll go as low as $30. At that point I just walked away. What kind of crummy customer service is that. First you do piss poor work and then expect to charge me again when your piss poor work doesn't hold up. I decided to take the ring to Mimi's Jewelry in Fountain Valley. They only charged me $26 for the fix and they guarantee their work. read more

Once again, Yelpers did not let me down! I had some old jewelry that I needed to sell, so I pulled out my cell to search and found Vinh Phat Jewelry. They're inside the Asian Garden Mall on the second floor. I had to call to find them and found out they're right across from the security booth. I came in and was greeted by a friendly face, Jenny. She weighed the gold in front of me, let me know how much per gram, and what type of gold I had. Everything was explained very thoroughly and I was quite happy with the service that I received. How do I love Vinh Phat Jewelry? Let me count the ways ... hahaha Didn't realize they could be found on Yelp but through my family alone word travels fast when someone deserves our business. We are ten members strong of aunts and uncles (mostly aunts who have taste in fine jewelry but seriously picky and pinch their wallets) LOL. My four aunts have gone here for over 5 yrs now and we've never had a problem with customer service or getting our needs met for special items or simple elegance jewelry. Wait, it's got to be at least 8 yrs because I was still an undergrad earning my very first 4.0 in college when my mom gifted me my very first Quan Yin white gold pendant, the Goddess of Compassion in Buddhism (Viet Pht Bà) for protection and matching necklace. It is still as beautiful and radiant as the day I gingerly admired on my neck :) Just two years ago I lost it and panicked. Saved enough money and returned to Jenny and her father's shop before Mùng Mt Tt to purchase an even unbelievably more stunning pendant and necklace. These pieces are all if any jewelry I ever wear on a daily basis and they never fail to attract attention from everyone because I get showered with compliments every single time. Believe me, we all have a good eye for fashion and beauty -- that's not to say I personally am being conceited hahaha because I'm not but this is the biggest compliment I could ever give Vinh Phat. I'm too scared to remove my necklace for a photo but the bodhisattva sits cross-legged on petals of a lotus flower and there are diamonds encrusted with great detail and care, I know it is of the best quality. I haven't been to the Phuoc Loc Tho - "Garden Mall" on Bolsa Avenue in about 20 years. I remember coming here with my grandmother. I hated it because I was a kid that had absolutely no interest in jewelry. The upstairs level hasn't changed that much. I got engaged recently (praise God! miracles do happen) and, last Sunday, the fiancee and I decided to go shopping for wedding bands. We were in the Garden Grove area and we found Vinh Phat Jewelry through my iPhone's nifty Yelp app. I would have otherwise never thought to shop here. Upon arrival, Jenny pleasantly greeted us and, with her help, we were able to find something my fiancee *loves.* The prices are absolutely incredible compared to what we saw at other local stores and online (e.g. Blue Nile). They have a *ton* of different settings and if even you're looking for an engagement ring I'm sure Jenny will be able to hook it up. She and her dad are very kind. She speaks fluent English, unlike most other folks in the upstairs shops. I would HIGHLY recommend this place. And after you go, visit the downstairs shops and try eating balut, just because you can. She had many styles of rings and sizes to look at. So I basically came in to "upgrade" a promise ring that was a year old. I asked if she does trade in's and she does! If you've ever been to the Asian Garden Mall, you know there's about 100+ different jewelry stores there. Well, my Vietnamese isn't fluent, just good enough so it's a little more hard trying to get a great deal. We were at the mall looking around about a month ago and went through about 50 stores. Vinh Phat was the only store I found a wedding band I would enjoy on my finger. Also, my fiancee found one that went well with her engagement ring. We asked about the price, which was reasonably very good, but kept shopping around. Yesterday, we went back to the Asian Garden Mall to check out the other 50 stores we missed and double checked the others to see if we liked anything else. Out of 100 stores or so, I found 1 other ring I could wear, but wasn't in love with. She also found maybe 2 that went well (not perfect) with her engagement ring. We went back to Vinh Phat to see if what she had in stock. Jenny (the owner) quickly pulled out 4 rings for her to try on, one was the perfect match then I asked for the ring I wanted and we went from there. In the end, she gave us a great deal. Jenny Nguyen at Vinh Phat has one of the more modern collection at her booth as well as one of the largest variety. She's very friendly, speaks English, and very helpful. The one place in Lake Forest that did have a silversmith wanted to charge $60 for a resize; no thanks! Pros - Vinh Phat had the wedding ring style I wanted. Cons - Jenny Phan and her partner (dad, uncle, friend, co-worker, husband, who ever) was rude, obnoxious, and I'd rather not deal with her or her 6x6' kingdom of a booth ever again. In fact, I will further encourage anyone else I know and don't know to avoid her and her "store" like the plague. Vinh Phat had the style of ring I wanted. When I asked Jenny Phan (the owner?) about whether or not she had it in my size and in the width I wanted she said yes, but would rather not waste her energy getting the tray out of her safe unless I was seriously interested in the ring. I brushed that comment off thinking I shouldn't be offended because I must of missed something in translation. I didn't bother haggling her, and took a picture of the ring as I intended to look around at the 100's of other shops in the mall. As we took the picture she firmly said she doesn't want to be included in the picture in any way shape or form for one reason or another. I suppose there might be some security concerns. But seriously, I had no intention of including her...why would I? I ended up coming back later in the day with my family because I wanted to settle in on purchasing the ring from her. When I arrived she was sitting behind the counter eating her lunch. Very normal as there is no such thing as a back room in the booths. With my family and fiance anxiously awaiting my pointing out of the ring I want, she casually said, she's busy eating and that we need to come back in 15 minutes. I was shocked. I looked at her partner and asked if he can show us the ring, He flat out said, "she's busy, come back when she's done in 15 minutes." I was blown away...speechless. If you don't want someone to bother you, go find yourself somewhere else to sit and eat your lunch. I understand the cost of a guy's wedding ring isn't something to write home about for her, but believe me, my business was good enough for countless other shops in the area. I ended special ordering my ring and secondary wedding bands. I also bought my fiance's ring and a bracelet from My Kim Jewelry because I refused to go back to Vinh Phat. As a born and raised local I have mixed feelings about the mall, heck Little Saigon community in general. In terms of jewelry shops, Vinh Phat is about as comfortable as you can get. The merchandise (ooo shiny) are a good mix of modern and classic styles. Especially compared to the surrounding shops, which belong to a much older generation, they have much more of the stylish items. Jenny is not only pretty stylish and knowledgeable about her stuff but super friendly as well. She just makes the shopping experience so much more enjoyable, like a bunch of friends gossiping about what's cute or not. It looks like she handles the younger crowd while her dad deals with the older locals. So good for both my and my mom.
