Vinh Phat Oriental Market is Baton Rouge's original Asian grocery and variety store! It is locally owned and operated, and clustered together with a number of other businesses that meet the needs of the Asian community. I love Vinh Phat because it is just packed to the walls with interesting products to explore. Of course there are every type of ingredient and condiment for Asian cooking, but there are also a wide variety of great fruits and vegetables that are both familiar and exotic. My favorite discovery are the Thai Bananas, these are are small but super flavorful (really inexpensive as well). There are a bewildering array of snacks, from crab chips to rice crackers (rice crackers are crunchy and addictive). Then there are sweets! The various Asian Kit-Kat flavors are always popular, Matcha Green Tea is amazing! There are so many types of candies and treats. Then there is the selection of teas, of which they have a big assortment. These range from the reputedly medicinal, many forms of green, and amazing selections of black teas. It should also be noted that there are many refrigerator and freezer cases full of products to consider. I'm a big fan of seaweed salad, simply thaw and eat. Then there are the dumplings, so many dumplings... There are a lot of easy to prepare options to explore, as well as frozen treats! Aside from all the foods, there are other things one should check out. These include housewares and other sundry goods. There are woks, cleavers, serving ware, teapots, and much more. I adore this little market! Don't be surprised when it smells like old fish and, well, looks like a stereotypical Asian market. It's endearing, get with the program. There are tons of different Asian cooking options here, from Thai to Korean to Japanese. The offered foodstuffs are canned, refrigerated, dried, and fresh. There is a healthy tea and dried herb selection, as well as noodles and ramen. There's also a selection of glass and melamine kitchenware, including tea ware. I always pick up canned lychee and tteokbokki for cooking. The prices are quite affordable. This is a fun store, and it is always a joy to visit. read more

I just gotta say this store has so much stuff, can feel a little overcrowded. Wide selection of produce and frozen items. Has snacks, dried items, household items, and just much much more. I've gone in to grab ingredients for a papaya salad and they have everything I need for it! Now craving some Thai red curry so I'd be back because I know I'll find the things I need here. read more

Large selection of tons of Asian stuff!! You can find almost everything here!! Fresh veggies, frozen packages, can goods, snacks, noodles you name it!! I even found chicken feet (don't judge! Chinese makes soups out of it). The store itself can be a little cleaner though, that's the downfall. Floors are somewhat dirty and it smells really strong in there. We also saw half eaten watermelon sitting around so that was gross. However, no where else can you pick up so many great Asian groceries at the same time! If they clean the place up, I would totally give them 5 stars!! read more

This is my favorite asian store to shop at because I feel welcomed as A BLACK person. Unlike the Asian Supermarket.

I'm very picky about the places that I go to, to get groceries especially Asian markets due to the prices being different in many places but this place has pretty much anything you can think of ranging from cups to bowls to utensils pots and pans, to dry goods and even meats in the back house. I'm generally impressed with the selection and the gentlemen at the front desk is very helpful when asked a question. I come here with my friend from time to time and pick up boxes of instant noodles for less then 10$ when other places charge me 12$ - 14$ for it which to me is a deal breaker. read more

It is true that the store is overstuffed and could be cleaner, but you do find a lot of unique items that are reasonably priced. I like the store and have been shopping here for years and always like to try new things. The staff is friendly and willing to help customers. read more

This place is crazy good. Has not only never to be found items but even has fresh produce as well. And just compare item prices with local grocer and you'll be shocked. They might be a little cluttered but I love that. Lower overhead. read more

If you need anything asian in baton rouge, you come to Vinh Phat. There is another oriental market right down the street called Saigon/Hong Kong, but for the most part they are not as good. They do sell a few items that vinh phat does not, and vice versa. Vinh Phat is my preference because of how friendly the staff are. Their produce is incredibly fresh, and priced extremely low. Some of their produce is up to 50% less than it costs at walmart, with obvious higher quality. Their selection of asian products, from sauces and noodles to cooking equipment, alcohol, toiletries and more is phenomenal. My main complaint is that some of the price tags are hard to find and occasionally some are missing - in this respect they are still much better than the saigon market, which does not use price tags. In general this is not a problem because most things here are inexpensive, but sometimes you get surprised by how costly an untagged item can be. Also, I have bought frozen surimi here that was absolutely rotten. Upon opening it and thawing it, the smell was so awful I gagged. I had to throw it in the ditch outside because there was no way that was staying in my trash. So, don't get the surimi. More or less use discretion in what you buy, and I highly recommend you have considerable experience in identifying asian foods if you go here. Some products have little or no english on them. I wish the location was easier to get to as well. Regardless, I highly recommend Vinh Phat for any asian grocery needs you have. read more
