If I could give these guys a zero, I would do it A friend of mine set up his birthday party weeks ahead of time and was confirmed. The night before a friend went in to ask if they could decorate the next day, the day of the party in the morning and we're told yes by a waitress and by the owner both. At 7 AM the next day, the day of the party, the owner called my friend and canceled his reservation. He had nowhere else to go. It was awful. Stopped in to meet friends the other day at Vino Simpatico in South Pasadeno. This wine bar has a substantial selection of wine by the glass or bottle. It is a quaint, comfortable, friendly establishment. The sommelier, Ben, introduced a glass of Corporosso Montepulciano D'Abruzzo Reserva 2013 when I asked for something other than my go-to cabernat. I haven't decided just yet whether or not I should scream it from the rooftops or try to keep it hidden for myself, but here we are so I guess we are going with option one. Vino Simpatico is too easy to miss if you're not looking for it. And impossible to avoid once you discover it. For most people it's probably the wine tastings and events that bring them in - but I would imagine it's the people that keep them coming back. That and maybe the really generous wine club membership that makes corkage fees just $5... When I first walked in it was early, quiet, empty, all which allowed the smell of fresh popped popcorn and the walls lined with bottles to stand out. Since we were the only ones there we got the best seats in the house - the bar. Before I could get 2 sips into my wine the place was already filling up. The live music filled the room so that I could have nice conversation with the people near me. What is most special about Vino Simpatico is how down to earth it all is. Especially because there are no pretentious wino shenanigans. The atmosphere is comfortable, casual clothes all around. It's a place you feel welcome. It proves you can explore, and learn about wine without it having to be a big production. OR you can simply meet with friends to enjoy music, a slight buzz, and relish in the peace of knowing you don't have to clean the glasses. Bonus points for regular shmegular free parking too. Wine is good... but our experience was horrible because the man behind the bar was extremely condescending although you can tell her didn't know much about wine. I was disappointed in more ways than one. First they charge you $10 for some average tasting cheese and crackers. They serve you 8 different wines with a a mere two small sips of wine. After tasting 8 different wines it's difficult at times to remember which wines are good enough to buy. (Although we did buy on two separate times). Here's where my main complaint lies: when asking for an additional taste of a couple of wines, we were denied an extra pouring. I should have said something at the time but nevertheless, I haven't been back since. And I have told several people of my experience. read more

Cute boutique wine bar. Tastings every Thursday night. For $10 you can taste a bunch of different wines. You can also buy wine to bring home or enjoy there for a minimal corkage fee. Went last night and the place was packed! Many folks join their wine club. Depending on the level you choose, they run from $40 - 70 and include 3 bottles a month (again, the red/white combo depends on the level - the tastings are free and they offer other perks as well. We haven't joined as we are new to the St Pete wine scene and not ready to commit lol. But definitely would consider back and check it out again! read more

I attended a Private wine event last night at Vino Simpatico. It was great we were able to social distance yet have a wonderful time together. So disappointing. Stopped by for the first time Friday night. There were 3 people at the bar. The rest of the place was empty. Sat down, no acknowledgement from the staff. Went up to the bar and took a menu, still no acknowledgement from the staff. The guy behind the bar walked right past us to get a bottle of wine for the people at the bar, still no acknowledgement. Finally after 15 minutes of being invisible, we walked out, and still no acknowledgement. We are new to the neighborhood and are wine drinkers. We really wanted this to be our new hangout. Unless you want to beg for service - save your time and go somewhere else! Horrible, horrible experience. We walked in and sat there for 15 minutes without being acknowledged in the tiny shop. The two gentlemen behind the bar couldn't be bothered to even greet us. One was standing behind the bar eating, and the other was talking with the only two guests. Business must be great if you can allow guests to walk into and later out without even a word in an essentially empty establishment. However, was there on feb 23 and the owner still has Christmas decorations all around. That's a turn off as its way past the season.
