It is not often that I am in the McNamara terminal of DTW, so I took the opportunity to go to Vino Volo. This wine bar is now in a larger, more open area of the terminal with ample bar seating and a few tables. Wines can be ordered individually, or as a flight of three. I enjoyed a glass of Tempranillo! There are also a selection of small plates, charcuterie boards, salads, and flatbreads. I enjoyed a delicious chopped salad that included pickled red peppers, olives, meats, and chickpeas. If you're flying out of the Detroit Airport (DTW) or have a layover, this Vino Volo location is pretty good. It was busy, so service was a bit slower than I'm used to at a Vino Volo, but I'd still recommend going there as they're consistent with their wine flights (boom: there, they're, and their in one sentence). Like all Vino Volo locations, they have the $2 tasting if you're a member of their rewards program. If you're a Reserve Member, you get a complimentary amuse bouche which happened to have Marcona almonds at this location. Their wine flights are put together to compare and most are usually pretty good. I stick to the reds mostly but have done others too. They also have food if you want to eat, but I usually opt for other airport junk and just come for the wine. If I was flying through/from DTW, I'd totally stop here again. It's near the center of the 1 mile long terminal and close to the express tram escalator. read more

Vino Volo was a wonderful sanctuary away from the noise and chaos of the busy terminal for years, sadly in Fall of 2025 it closed at its secluded spot to reopen about 100 feet away *out in the hallway* of noise. It's now more akin to a loud busy bar atmosphere. It's a very good bar but not the same for those who frequently visited and valued the quiet cocoon atmosphere. read more

Knocking a star off because the service was soooo slow. Almost every person was either waving down one of the three servers or going up to the bar to order their food, order more drinks or close out. The servers were kind and pleasant, but just way too slow. There couldn't have been more than 4 tables per server so I couldn't imagine when this place is busy. I suggest you arrive early when flying out of McNamara Terminal and allow some time to mosey over to Concourse A and taste some delicious wine at Vino Volo. While they have a nice food menu, I wasn't hungry so focused on tasting some crisp, refreshing whites. Sauvignon Blanc, Alvarinho, followed by two Michigan whites...Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc from Mawby's alter-ego in Leelanau. Beautiful service and space. read more

I really love this chain - it's a great place for me to chill when I am stuck in an airport such as Detroit Metro. The set-up is somewhat small, but there is a decent amount of wine and there are various snacks and entrees to choose from, as well as a few desserts. Their charcuterie board has a good selection, just ask for extra bread/crackers. I don't know how often the meat and cheese options rotate, but I don't think anyone could go wrong with this. It's all good! I like their wine flight options, but if you travel a lot, and you find yourself at Vino Volo often, your selections are quite slim. The service at the three Vino Volos I've been to, are pretty much the same - servers weren't overly attentive, but you don't have to wait long for some assistance. Their wine selection is worth trying and if you have some time to kill, I'd definitely be heading to Vino Volo. read more

Vino Volo is located next to gate A46. It is a must stop! I really like the wine flights offered but they also have wines by the glass, a food menu, and even three Michigan beers to choose from. My favorite Michigan beer so far has been the Whitsun ale, a take on the Bluemoon with hints of orange peel and coriander. The shades of white wine flight is three samples of white wine for $14. I enjoyed all three! If you love them so much you can even buy a bottle! There is seating at the bar with outlets to charge up for that long flight or take a seat at the many tables offered inside. This elegant wine bar is a must stop at the Detroit Airport for those of us who enjoy good wine along with tapas. It is by gate A43. The interior is cozy, boutique-ish and the service is very friendly. The music is well selected and slow. Wines are delightful and reasonably priced. Especially their three-wine flights. They also have a small tapas menu that has items like smoked salmon rolls, tacos, almonds, olives, greens, cheese, sandwiches, ... The only downside is the lack of free Internet at the DTW, but that is not Vino Volo's fault. Try the "New World sampler" (a great deal from South America) with the smoked salmon rolls. Mixed greens with goat cheese are good, too, but they could be more fresh (I tried them twice; the second time was less fresh than the first). You will forget that you are in an airport and may start fancying being in an elegant wine bar in the downtown of a cosmopolitan city -- you would almost be right, until you miss your flight. So, keep your time in check; set an alarm. For a somewhat-hungry frequent traveler who enjoys a glass of wine while making her connection, Vino Volo is a cozy haven (I was there two days in a row!). You can also buy wines here to take home or to friends. We need more such places in airports: winy, cozy, elegant, friendly. I had a flight canceled on me and that left me with an unexpected 3 hour delay at Detroit Airport. That left me with some time to kill and there's only so much shopping you can do at Brooks Brothers. I settled into Vino Volo and enjoyed a wonderful flight of Sauvignon Blanc wines with a delicious mac and cheese finished with truffle oil. After chilling here for an hour I'm sure Detroit Airport asked Santa for a kick ass place that would level all other airport drinkeries and eateries and I see it was handsomely rewarded. Well done Santa, well done. I can see myself arriving early here just to stop in. I had the brie and proscuitto on ciabata with fig preserves, OMG Vo-licious!!!! To go with they had flights of all colors, flavors and price ranges. I selected was the "South of the Equator" and it was fantastic. But here is the kicker...It's affordable! They have half portions of all the food and the flights were between $10-15. I got outta there for only $18. That's unheard of for airport eatering! I have a craving that I just can't satisfy, because the nearest place I can get this fantastic Chickpea and Chorizo Chili dish is in Sacramento. That's not where I tried this delectable dish, though. On my trip home from the Inauguration (yes, Obama's!), I had a layover in the Detroit airport, and I walked around looking for a nice place to eat, trying not to cave in to my usual travel comfort food craving (McDonald's). Vino Volo looked like a great place for lunch, and I was not disappointed. The chorizo and chickpea chili was so good that I bought one 'to-go' to bring to my parents in L.A. so that they could try to figure out the ingredients. I also had a prosciutto and fig jam sandwich that was marvelous, and a flight of red wines to go with my meal.
