Love this hidden little jem at half Moon Bay in the back off main street. The wines are delicious. We tried four medium body red wine and they paired nicely with the charcuteriei and cheese plate. I loved the flexibility in picking exactly the ones that you want to compose your own flight. Here is the one we had, from light to heavy: - casa del bolque, Pinot noir from Chile - schiava from Italy (served slightly chilled) - lichen, Pinot from Anderson valley - nebbiolo from langhe Italy I liked all of them except for the schiava. The other three are well balanced, with some complexity. And a good range for pairing. All of the food and wines are super reasonablly priced , seemingly the only place that bucked the trend of price inflation in Silicon valley. The place is run by a couple from Paraguay. We got some recommendations from the lovely woman who runs it. The food is solid here. She recommended starting with the charcuterie with the heavier wines in the flight, and then moving to the cheese and dried fruit peach. I really liked the fig jam with the goat cheese and manchego. They pair completely differently with different wines. I liked the nebbiolo with manchego and fig jam the best. It also goes nicely with the empanada. The ambience is super chilled. We sat at the couch area looking at the entire place. A lot of couples coming on dates here. Very sweet. We will definitely be back! read more

What a nice tasting room. Great atmosphere in Half Moon Bay - nice to do a tasting next to a wall rack full of bottles! I tried the red flight, and it was amazing starting with a Nebbiolo, followed by a Malbec, and then a Tempranillo. My review is related to the experience I had with Vinoteca during the Pumpkin Festival in Half Moon Bay. I saw they had a pumpkin spice sangria for $13, and ordered two for me and a friend. I don't know if this is because they were really trying to squeeze every cent from us or if it was an issue with the person pouring, but man do they skimp on their pours. The picture you see below is the amount of sangria I received without me drinking any yet - they pour only to about 70% of the cup size with half the cup being pure ice and fruits. Basically, this was maybe about 2 shot glasses worth of sangria in this very small cup already for $13 + tax. I finished it in two big sips. It only looks like this much because of the ice and fruit! We would have been happy if it was at least filled to the top line of the cup instead of whatever this is. Flavor was really good but it left me wanting more. I'd probably be better off making a bottle of this myself at home for around the same price. read more

HMB is such a cute little town! We wanted to chill before heading to the beach and we found Vinoteca on Yelp. A wine bar worth 5 stars? Vinoteca did not disappoint! We walked in right as they were setting up, grabbed a couple of seats outside and our waitress was extremely friendly. My boyfriend always goes for the reds, but I am always indecisive. I asked if she would recommend the rose or white wine flight. She gave me details about both flights and how one of the rose tastings are a hit or miss, so she recommended the white wine flight. We loved all of our wines! The waitress checked on us every 15 minutes or so, grabbing any empty glasses, and asking if we would want an umbrella because it was warm outside. Flights cost around $15-20 each person for 3 wines each. A great deal! We ended up buying one bottle of the white wine and one of the red wines. We will definitely have to come back again! read more

After perusing the choices, we asked for a substitution in the white wine flight. Our idea was readily accepted and we were invited to make up our own flights, with advice offered in a nice (helpful) way. We also ordered a cheese and charcuterie plate, which we adored! There were ample amounts of 2 delicious cheeses and 2 meats, as well as a nice selection of crackers, strawberries, pistachios, dates, and olives . The wine samplings were generous and delicious. We found the atmosphere was relaxed and gentle with soft music inviting relaxation. I was totally blown away from the start with their excellent service and how they provided us with some space to select the wines without rush. I was able to reserve a table for two very quickly as they were very responsible via email . We tried four whites and six reds. Our favorite red was the cab franc; I also really liked Pinot but generally prefer light wines. The outdoor space was also pretty nice, though the pizza chairs were a bit too colorful for my aesthetic preference. We interacted with a few people and they were all so personable and welcoming. One even brought us a wine book to look through some tasting notes. The wines and charcuterie board cheese were all quite unique and really affordable. My only regret was not purchasing a bottle. If you like wine and came to HMB, and you're not a 'brand name' snob, come for some delicious wine and relaxation. You can try the flights of 3 reds/whites/combo and replace one label with another, super flexible. Work with the server, tell her what you like and they'll recommend several. It's $5 for 1/2 glass and I loved the torrontes (fruity aroma white wine from South America) and Acorn Syrah (Sonoma). I also ordered the cheese/crackers/nut/fruit plate which was delicious. They told me they change their wine selection frequently, so I look forward to going back and trying new ones. I get why this place has 5 stars. The wines chosen by the owner are yummy without the expensive labels. This makes it more fun to explore new wines and pick up a couple of bottles. They have comfortable seatings inside and outside. There's a pizza place next door if you want to eat pizza and drink wine. Service was friendly and relaxed. I found this more enjoyable and stress free than having to make a reservation 3 weeks ahead and pay $45 per person to taste 4 wine in Napa. I still love Napa for the views and gourmet restaurants and chocolates. But HMB has the ocean views and Sam's lobster roll/potato chips/pickles. read more

This place was on our list of things to do while visiting Half Moon Bay. We finally made it over and had a seat. Great ambience, very cute place, great and friendly service. It was a lovely visit until we left. There were two of us. We both paid our tab with a credit card. One of us included the tip and the other just put some cash on the table. We get up to leave and are out the door and walking down the sidewalk when we are chased down by the gal that was serving us! She asked if she had offended us in someway because my friend only left $3 on the table. Unfortunately, she didn't bother to check the credit card sale to see that an 18% tip was included. It made us feel so horrible and ruined our entire experience. Tipping is not a requirement but she had been so friendly and pleasant I was happy to leave that tip and my friend was happy to add a couple extra bucks on top of it. read more

We had a GREAT first experience at Vinoteca today. Kit (the owner, Larissa's, husband) took great care of us today when we wandered in this afternoon. The environment is a great combination of laid back, classy & fun. We played Jenga, while we enjoyed their red wine tasting flight and ended up purchasing a bottle of wine from the flight. Kit explained that Larissa's mindset with their wine bar was to provide guests with wines that they would want to drink (and purchase), so everything is very reasonably priced, while still being super delicious. Other Highlights: - They provide free popcorn with a variety of salts to choose from - They serve minimal food (a cheese platter & charcuterie board) that pair well with the wines they serve - They are dog friendly inside & had a dog bowl out (always a nice touch!) - They have pre-designed tasting flights, but will gladly swap anything out for you (the tastings are half pours). - They offer half & full pours (& bottles of course) of all the wines.
