I have been going to the Vintage Barber Company since it opened. They do take walk-ins, but I would always suggest an appointment !!!. Don't really understand the bad reviews considering this place is always packed with repeat customers. Its funny how you get on a schedule and run into the same "old friends", that you only know from the shop. The folks who work there are always joking with the customers and all are having a good time... So, if you need a real shave or just a hair cut, this place can certainly handle the job !! Just recently completed my third visit to this awesome Barber Shop. Every time has been a true experience. I decided this time to go for a Saturday treat with Andrea. The lady, with a snobby attitude, says "we don't do shaves on the weekends, only Monday thru Friday, sorry shop policy". What kind of barber shop does not shave on weekends. They do take walk ins, but I always make an appointment a few days out, because they are always busy, obviously because their clients are more than satisfied with the product. My 5yr old son and I normally see Andrea but they're all good. She does a great job and if you have a beard she's the one to see. My suggestion would be to call and make an appointment unless you're comfortable sitting awhile as a walk in. Even then it's worth the wait for a great cut. I've been to a lot of barbers here and they've been the best so far, hard to mess up a crew cut but many in this area have. It's cash only but there's a bank across the parking lot and a gas station right beside it to get cash if you forget. read more

I found this place while looking for somewhere local to get my beard trimmed and I am glad I found it. This was my first trip there and I am definitely going back from now on. I just moved into the area, and I heard a lot of good things about this place. I had been looking for a solid barber that would know what to do with my hair. Linzey was really great. She gave me great feedback and tips on styling my hair and I feel like she's done the best job with my hair compared to other barbers that I've been to in the past. They're a great price for the quality of service. Appointments are highly recommended because a walk in could take a while if they're already working with someone. This place was a great little shop but now that the former co-owner Andrea Eli is gone, it's going down hill fast. Recently moved to the Chesapeake area was a first time customer walk-in. Entire staff was friendly and the atmosphere of the shop was relaxed and fun with both customers and barbers joking with each other. I got a comb over with #1 fade on the sides and back. Joni did an amazingly detailed and awesome job. She explained exactly (type of guard number, etc.) what she was doing throughout every cut so I can tell any future barbers how to cut the style. Also instructed me how to style my hair correctly and the products to use in order to maintain it. On top of this I received a complimentary hot towel neck shave. I went to Vintage Barbers today after reading reviews on Yelp. This weekend I made a rookie move and went to a chain haircut shop to get my haircut. It was the worst haircut I've ever had. The cut was uneven, the sides were different lengths and the back was blocked instead of faded as requested With my head hung in shame I went to Vintage Barber to see if they could fix the mess that was upon my head. Kathy, the Master Barber, after shrieking in horror at the sight before her, got straight to work. The end result was an extremely professional razor cut hair cut. I was greeted by Kathy and she was very patient with me as I was rather indecisive with my choice of haircut. I was debating whether or not I should try getting a hard part and Kathy pretty much helped me reason through it and I eventually elected to go with it. I'm no haircut expert, but I could tell she was incredibly thorough with her cutting. My dad is always happy getting his hair cut by Andrea. A approximately 2 weeks ago he was getting his hair cut by Andrea and my mom was waiting for him on the customer bench with another man who was waiting to get his hair cut. And the big girl with dark hair who is fairly new to vintage barber decided to eat her pizza on the customer bench and leave the guy waiting until she ate her lunch in front of him. Then she goes in the bathroom and takes a poo for everyone to smell. Where is your customer service! So one needs to tell her to stop doing this. It not professional and makes vintage barber look bad. read more

I went on 8/11/15. The ladies were chatty and friendly, but professional. The shop is part time machine, part man cave! Andrea did a complete straight razor shave on head and beard, and it was worth every penny! (Not that it was expensive, mind you...roughly half the price of an Art of Shaving experience, and better IMO.) The coolest part was that once I had asked a couple of questions about how a straight razor shave is done, she started explaining every step to me, including types of blades/sharpness and the hows and whys of their uses. So, to review, great place, great price, great atmosphere, good coffee (or beer if later in the day!), and an education to boot! I will be back at least once a month for a shave! read more
