Fantastic wine shop. We went here to buy all the wines we tried on the Elmwood Wine Walk! My goodness- what an amazing store. What interesting and affordable wines!! We love Vinho verde from Portugal- and we tries a superb one on our wine walk. Also loved the small producers this place carries! I can't wait to go back. We bought several delicious wines I can't wait to drink.

If tasked with bringing wine to a dinner party, let Vintage Berkeley be your tastemaker. I had received a missive from the host that said we were having lamb and to bring something appropriate. I went to text my oenophile friend for a recommendation but my phone was on the fritz. Eff technology. Was picked up by another guest who recommended VB, and he stepped on the gas and blew two red lights to get there before closing at eight o'clock on a Saturday night. Not my idea. I ran in while Basil the maniac circled the block, and had just made it in time. I told the shopkeeper of our exploits and he chuckled and said next time to just call ahead and he'll stay open for us. He recommended a rioja to be paired with the lamb, and it was perfect and only $20. Went back yesterday for a less rushed visit, and saw that most wines are under $25, and that the shop has a great diversity of wines, so not only are France, Italy, and California represented, but South American, Spanish, South African, and Slovenian wines are on the scene too. They also offer in-store wine tastings, so perhaps while us east bayers are impatiently awaiting a CM to arrive on a chariot and entertain us, we can converge here and be orphans together!

The Riesling tasted on 6/12/14. Fan! Light and sweet.

They have a sign out front that promises free daily wine tastings Monday-Friday 4-7pm and Saturday 2-4pm but since it was a holiday they weren't offering a tasting.

Busy summer Shayla is in full effect, but you BEST believe that I will NOT be missing visits to this gem (and neither should you). First things first; the wine is just gawd damned FINE here, ladies and gents! As a self proclaimed certified wino (BAHAHAHA! Please take that title with a grain of salt), I will say that these wines can rival any of those big named Napa/Sonoma wine labels. The difference?! I ain't gotta drive all the way down to Napa to get this goodness (and I'm saving the big bucks)! Plus, the service is impeccable and them Oakland vibes are simply unparalleled. We love us a town gem, oh yes we do! ;). Okay, so back to the wine: I'm kind of hooked on a few of them. You can't go wrong with anything that you try here, but you CAN fall in love with the Vivant like I have. As someone whose wine of choice has never been a Cab, I am obsessed with the Vivant! It's bright, it's fruity, it's lucious and it's easy drinking for a Cab. I just love how they've changed converted me to a Cab lover... correction; a "Vivant" cab lover ;). Other notables that are not to be missed here: their fruity and floral rosé, their crisp and refreshing Chardonnay, and their succulent barbera. Again, you won't taste a bad wine here ever, but these are my current and recommended faves. I love coming in and trying the newbies on the list! I tasted a chilled red the last time that I was in, and it was quite delicious! Aside from the wines, what makes this place golden is the PEOPLE! It's a combination of the people running the place and the people who come in to enjoy it. Hallie and Tony are friggin' SPECTACULAR!!! Personalities on fleek (do people even say that anymore?!) and knowledge times a million. You should be there when we're having the most random convos ever. No really... you SHOULD! It's what makes things so fun enjoyable. I alwaaaays meet the BEST people here. We are always having the time of our lives and then I have to leave because... ya know. Work and bills and health and stuff! HA! But seriously, I can't say enough great things about this little gem. I am truly so grateful to have this wonderful place in my neighborhood. Pay them a visit! I promise you'll be back for more.

They had turned part of the alley into an outdoor patio. They used bistro table and chairs and had portable heaters and a E-Z ups (I went back when it was cold outside and potential rain. The interior space has a few seats at the counter and a few at the window. The owners of the spot are super kind and their wine is divine! I took a couple bottles home and they were a hit with my family.

Iain Bolton, winemaker of Eight Arms Cellars, definitely qualifies as a Renaissance man in my book. I have to admit that I haven't been to an official release party, but does an office party count? Milton would have given up his prized red stapler for a taste of these artisan wines. And lucky me, they were the perfect accompaniment to Friday's Beer (and Wine) Bash. Eight Arms put their marketing genius to work in celebration of their latest release. Where else can you taste wine and then throw down your best target practice at an Octopus inspired "Ink Spitting" contest? I hear the winner got a whopping 18 feet! Being able to talk to winemakers is always a treat. It truly is a craft that takes years of know-how, science, and a highly developed palette. You can pick up these wines at more than a couple local places: Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant, SF New Russian Hill Market, SF Wine on Piedmont, Oakland Du Vin Wines, Alameda Wine Mine, Oakland JV Wine & Spirit, Napa Swirl on Castro ...or you make your purchase online at www.eightarmscellars.com. Be sure to check out their Go Green Drink Red/White program. I was really impressed to learn that this is one company that is "committed to sustainable practices and a portion of the sale from each bottle is donated to help combat global warming." That's a glass of wine that you can feel more than good about drinking! If I had Eight Arms myself, I'd hold on tight to a case or two (and maybe lay some down to cellar for a few years).

They have 2 types of service options, if you decided to enjoy wine in their establishment. You can either order a $20 wine flight (Which comes with 3 glasses) or buy a bottle and they will uncork for you to enjoy there. They had about 1 to 2 options for 4 wine type of choices located on a card. We went with the flight. I had questions because I am a Cab and Malbec girl and in their Reds area, nothing adds even close to it. When the male employee spoke to me, he had a bit of sarcasm coming off. I didn't understand why because my questions were valid. He was short with his answers as if he did not want to talk to me. After this, he poured our drinks. I questioned the amount because it was very very very little bit. When I spoke with that same guy, he stated "What you expect..a whole glass of wine at $20 for 3?" I told him that I expected a little more love half a glass. He was like "It says on the card that it is 2.5 oz". I looked at the card because I knew that was nowhere on there. So I informed him that the size was not in the card and that is something that they should put because what we received was not worth $20 and that we could have purchased a bottle. That's how they get people. That flight is a total rip off!! Also, he put the drinks all on front of us, but did not tell us which was which, who's was for who nor personally give it to us. There were no little signs to inform us of what we were drinking. We had to ask him because he had walked off. He came over and was confused as you which was which as well. We received no water and we weren't even asked. Both employees were consumed with another person who was there (Business) and wine tasting and talking that we just weren't that relevant to ensure that our needs were fully met. Wine tasting: All 3 of the wines I had was disgusting. The one of the Reds that I had, stated it was bold. It was not. I had a Bubble (Orange) and it was horrible. Like all of them were cheap wines with no real packed flavor. The female employee or owner (I'm unsure) asked ONLY my friend what she thought of the wine. She never bothered to ask me which was really unprofessional. Neither of them ever introduced themselves or gave their names although we indicated that this was our 1st visit. Not very personable. This was a total waste of money and time for an experience. Wet had to go and find another place to get an enjoyable experience at.
