A little hidden gem! A high quality wine bar in the cuts of Berkeley?! Who would have thunk it?! This place is absolutely adorable! I came here two days before Christmas last year and practically had the entire place all to myself. The ambience is literally amazing! I was instantly attracted to their glowing bar and wine cellar. I'm kind of a nerd when it comes to wine. Whenever I go anywhere that has a wine list or a wine cellar, I usually study it pretty closely. For all of my fellow wine nerds out there, this place is like a mini heaven. For the size of this spot, their wine selection is pretty damn stellar. They've got French Champagne, Magnum reds, dessert wines, big name varietals, and even some international wines in there too. I had just come back from a a trip to Canada and tried Canadian ice wine for the first time. Then lo and behold; they had one of the exact ice wines that I had tried right on the shelf. Incredible! I mean, what Bay Area wine bar is carrying this type of wine? I was shocked. Aside from their extensive wine bottle collection, they also have a fabulous wine by the glass menu. My super sweet sommelier Nubia suggested that I try their Beaujolais and Barbera red wines based off my palate. Both were scrumptious and definitely right up my alley when it comes to reds. She was so knowledgeable and it was fun to pick her brain a little bit. I sat by the window which had a nice street view, but they also have some comfy seats near their fireplace. They have a small bites menu for light snacks and caviar, cheese, and charcuterie plates for something a little heavier. I nibbled on some olives while I was there. They have weekly happy hour specials which I have yet to partake in, but it's nice to know that they cater to the happy hour crowd as well. I really enjoyed my experience at Wine So Cru and I'm excited to explore more of their wines.

We moved from white to red as the night progressed, I enjoyed this one.

Lovely business. Great place to hang out with friends after work and share some really good wine. This woman owned business is fantastic. Cozy places to hang out and have a drink. They also have charcuterie, olives and nuts. The owner makes excellent recommendations. Also by the glass happy hour from 4:30-6:00.

Met up with friends after work for their happy hour ($2 off wines by the glass). The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. They checked in on us regularly, and made an extra effort to ensure we had all we needed before happy hour ended! Convenient location right off 580 with plenty of street parking available.

The ambiance in this place was exceptional. Will definitely be coming again. The waitress was very knowledgeable and kind. They also continuously checked on us to make sure we were ok. Also had a great selection of wines. The caviar was fresh and delicious too. I can't wait to come back!

    Welcome drinks! These were DELICIOUS!

We heard this building has been many different iterations over the years, but happy to have found this spot in Berkeley for a fun happy hour with friends. We enjoyed the wine flight (choice of 4 wines), each with a nice pour, and shared the spinach dip with chips. We also enjoyed an espresso martini to cap off the evening. The staff were super friendly, and the lounge was filled with what seemed like regulars. The lounge couches were super comfy and it was an overall very relaxing yet intimate experience. I would definitely come back again with a group, or even stop by for a date night. Parking is a bit tough in this area, but there is street parking (if lucky enough to find it) and garages nearby.

I'd been following them on instagram eagerly awaiting their opening, so when opening week finally came, I rushed in. They were still in sort of a soft opening phase trying to figure out what the hours would be, but I was thrilled to have them open a little bit earlier on a Sunday so we could enjoy some post hike bubbles. When we went in they had two different flight options of three champagnes. We opted for one of each to share, so that way we could try all of the open bottles. In addition to the flights they have champagne by the glass, bottle, and half bottle, as well as a still red, white, and rose, and a beer. They also have a few n/a options and some snacks and light bites. Mel helped us the entire time and was very fun to chat with! A lot of the time champagne can feel unapproachable, and that was not at all the case here. The whole experience was very fun and casual, but in a beautifully upscale space. Whether you're a champagne expert or have never tried it, this is a great spot to come.

This review is long overdue…read more My friends and I booked a Champagne tasting for party of six. Going into this I had absolutely no idea of what to expect but was very pleasantly surprised with the experience. We tasted three different bottles of Champagne. These bottles aren't ones typically found at your standard chain wine store. Bill provided background information on each and led us in a discussion of the differences. He clearly has a passion for this and loved sharing his extensive knowledge. We opted to have cheese to nibble on while we sipped and chatted. There were two other parties there that night but ours was the largest. There are smaller rooms available but our party was in the main seating area. The experience lasted for several hours and is a must for anyone that loves Champagne. This would be a great experience for birthday party or celebration, for a group or a couple. I think the price is rather reasonable for this experience.

I want to be transparent at the outset: we ultimately did not visit, so this review is not about…read morethe Champagne, the space, or the in-person experience. It is specifically about the reservation handling and customer service we experienced. My partner and I recently moved to the Bay Area and enjoy exploring restaurants, wine, and tasting experiences. Our plan for Thursday, August 13, was to attend the San Francisco Champagne Society Happy Hour at 6:00 PM and then go to our confirmed 8:00 PM dinner at Lazy Bear. Our Lazy Bear reservation was correctly booked for August 13. My partner genuinely believed she had also selected August 13 when booking SFCS through Tock, but the completed reservation and reminder emails showed Wednesday, August 12. We do not know whether the date reset during booking or we simply made a selection error. Either way, we acknowledge that we failed to notice the date shown in those two emails and consequently missed the reservation. The next day, as soon as we discovered the problem, we contacted the owner. We did not request a cash refund. We asked whether our prepaid $102.90 Happy Hour reservation could be moved to an available time that day, either 5:00 or 6:00 PM. The owner explained that he had held two seats, prepared the space, and created a menu for the missed reservation. I understand that resources may have been used and that the original booking was designated nonrefundable. However, the only exception initially offered was an upgrade to a $125-per-person experience. The total would be $334.06, with our original $102.90 credited, requiring us to pay an additional $231.16. The first time offered was 7:00 PM, which would not work because of our 8:00 PM dinner. The owner later offered 5:30 PM under the same upgrade condition. Trying to reach a reasonable compromise, we proposed using our original payment for the same Happy Hour experience that day and separately purchasing a $75 or $125 experience that weekend. We explained that we are Champagne enthusiasts, had just moved here, and wanted to explore the different experiences step by step and potentially become repeat customers. The owner's final offer was that we prepay a completely new $125-per-person reservation for any date that month before a 3:00 PM deadline. Only if we made that new purchase--approximately $334.06--would he allow us to attend the previously paid Happy Hour at 5:00 PM that day. He also stated that we could dispute the charge and might win, that Tock's coverage would still pay him, and that we would then be unable to make any future reservations at his establishment. I understand that a business may enforce a nonrefundable no-show policy. If the answer had simply been a polite "no," I would have been disappointed but would have understood. What created such a negative impression was making a substantial, time-limited additional purchase the condition for any accommodation, even after we offered to purchase another experience separately that weekend. It felt less like a gesture of hospitality or a good-faith attempt to resolve an honest mistake and more like using the mistake as leverage to secure an immediate additional sale. The warning that a billing dispute would result in being barred from future reservations made the interaction feel even more adversarial. This was not about the $102.90 or an unwillingness to pay $125 per person. We were already prepared to make another paid reservation. It was about the principle involved and the way the situation was handled. Based solely on this customer-service experience, we decided not to visit or make any future reservations. Again, I cannot evaluate the Champagne or the on-site experience; this review concerns only the reservation process and the owner's handling of the issue.

It's quite a nice place to have a quiet, intimate dinner with the causal, yet upscale vibe. There're about eight tables (1-2 persons@) while we're there, and service was attentive, despite having only one server. For the $80 dinner for 2 special, we got to pick one item from each of the first two selections to share, two entrees, and one beignet each. We also added a beet salad to share, and my husband had the wine pairing. For our first course, the two baked oysters were cheesy and rich. It would be better if they were bigger, though. Our second course, the caramelized onion soup was perfectly prepared, one of the best I had ever had. The beet salad was refreshing, and the dressing was so tasty that it made arugula tasted good. I had the sole as my entree; it was cooked well, light and delicious. I took a bite of my husband's slow braised short ribs; it was tender and flavorful. The beignets were delightful, and paired really well with the dark chocolate and salted caramel sauce. I really appreciated that all their hot dishes came out really hot. It was honestly one of the most uncomfortable and disappointing dining experiences we've had. As strong supporters of local restaurants, this was especially disheartening given how much we used to enjoy coming here.
