Yes the filter was dirty so I defrosted unit and changed the filter but still the blower motor would not ramp up (this is a variable speed motor) system is only 6 years old. Call out a tech wilI will not mention his name he knows who he is. Tells me I need a new blower motor costing over 2K. Somehow talks me into a whole new system which runs about 9K. Thankfully install was delayed. I had bad vibes. Called another company and played dumb. Asked what a new motor would cost he says about 1K. BIG difference. He ran some diagnostics and said the motor was sound. Problem was motor not getting the signal to ramp up..Checks out the thermostat and it was bad. Now $250 later and I am GTG. Big difference 9K vs $250 !!! Tech was very dishonest. Told me he did a load calculation and it called for a 2.7 ton unit. Further tells me that you always round up, so go three ton . Check for yourself you should round down to avoid what is called "short cycling" He never did a formal load calculation since this requires input of home"s insulation R factor,checking attic, number of west facing windows etc. He was flat out dishonest as he had none this information. Basically he tried to upsell me on a larger unit. More profit for the company and likely bigger bonus for him.. Never should have suggested a new system but hey it is money in his pocket and out of mine. Further he left the caps off the service lines outside. The new company (Babiones) found them sitting on the disconnect box. Lastly, left a screw out of the air handler box which of course results in air leakage. In summary, Mid Florida with their big orange trucks acts like your buddy but in my opinion they are unethical and very dishonest. IMO, run away do not walk. Your milage may vary. Two gentlemen came out to my house and spent an hour or so checking each point in the current until they were able to identify the issue and fixed it quickly once located.
