I do enjoy the occasional hotel bar, the drinks were cheap and the furniture clean, but they closed to kitchen at 11!

Since it was my first visit, the bartender walked us through the menu and shared some great recommendations. They even let us sample the frozen drinks before we ordered. We got the matchamacallit, makahiki mua, frozen ube, and frozen dole whip. Every drink was creative and delicious. This is the perfect spot for a laid-back night out. It's casual and relaxed, but with a lively atmosphere (there's a DJ) and excellent tiki cocktails.

The frozen drinks are dangerously good since you cannot taste the alcohol at all. The decorations are great and I absolutely love the art. It even features my favorite Hawaiian artist, Nick Kuchar! The space has a great layout. There are two large high top booths in the back that are perfect for groups of 8 to 10 people. The bathroom I used was gender neutral, and there is a convenient parking lot right in front. They do not serve food here, so some folks bring their own. We will definitely bring a meal with us next time! To top it all off, the service was very friendly. They were so patient explaining the whole menu to our large group.

He did the damn thang, and the vibe in the room was everything. Truly an amazing night. The venue itself is beautiful, and entry was seamless -- no hassle getting in, which I always appreciate. There is a 2-drink minimum, but no complaints there because the drinks did not disappoint. Now, let's talk food... We ordered chicken tacos, which took so long to come out I honestly forgot to take a picture. My hubster ordered the chicken wings and fries. Unfortunately, the fries were definitely undercooked, and the chicken was very light-skinned -- it could have been cooked much more. The food overall needs work, and that part was disappointing compared to the rest of the experience. That said, the artist + atmosphere combo was top-tier. I would absolutely come back for the music and the vibe, but next time, I'd skip the food and stick to drinks only. Great night, unforgettable performance -- just room for improvement in the kitchen.

The View cocktail finally came and tasted like watered down apple juice with sweet n sour mixed in. This is the same drink order I placed with my food. The seats in the vip booths are so high you have to stand up or sit at the end of the booth to see the stage. Overall vibe is nice. I came for an event to celebrate a birthday. Paid $100 for vip and If it wasnt a birthday with excellent music I'd leave asap. UPDATE: THE FOOD CAME. I asked of I could get the chicken tenders wit lemon pepper. Why these ppl gave me dry lemon pepper seasoning for already fried chicken. Smh Don't come ASAP. I sent my food back, and asked them to actually season the food. They literally dumped all that seasoning they gave me on the side o to my plate. RUDE.

For exceptional Oaxacan cuisine, Madre delivers with its richly flavored complex moles, tasajos,…read moreand tlayudas It occupies a giant space and its bar in the back has a massive wall of mezcal bottles. Madre Enchiladas: If you can't choose, pick them all! On a platter as wide as a pizza with a low rim, the mole sauces are practically overflowing. It's like an artist's palette board with four earthy mole colors. Mole Rojo, is an auburn blend of chilies, nuts, chocolate, and spices. The enchilada's corn tortilla is wrapped around my favorite filling, tender and juicy carnitas. My favorite mole is the Mole Negro, black as the nighttime sky with a deep smoky and sweet flavors. The dry chilies, sesame seeds, nuts, Oaxacan chocolate, and herbs provide a velvety sauce for the chicken picadillo. The darkly hued Mole Coloraditos has a little bit of a spicy kick from its toasted chilies, nuts, sesame seeds, chocolate, tomatoes, and spices. It's hard not to use the shredded beef enchilada to swab the plate clean. I would seriously lick the plate clean if I was at home. OK, the last one isn't a mole. The Salsa Verde is tangy from its tomatillos, green chilies, onions and garlic. The crumbly chorizo and cheese enchilada is comforting. The enchiladas are topped with queso fresco, onions, and parsley. Parking: There's plenty of street parking, but you may have to walk a couple blocks.

With new ownership comes an affiliated new crowd coinciding w/ old crowd. You could cut the tension in the air w/ someone's pocket knife because you just felt at least one person was packing. I never felt the need to look over my shoulder regularly thru the night til now. Territorial is an understatement. It could be your first visit, and you could tell two different groups were there. Service was disappointing. A customer is a customer, but I noticed new ownership neglected old crowd to tend to her crowd or anything else to keep her "busy." Meanwhile, original bartenders were bending over backwards for everybody. We, in the old crowd, are familiar enough w/ each other for some small talk at the bar while waiting for drinks. They were as confused and shocked as I was about the service. I don't even want to mention what I saw in owner/staff interactions, but I'ma just leave it at sad. It was just sad. I'm not a regular regular, but Southland was the spot for my friends and me when we wanted a night out together for past couple years. Now, we're back to bar-hopping for a new spot because The Alley Bar ain't it. I'd give her benefit-of-the-doubt because she just picked up the place, but benefit would imply I saw an effort in keeping old crowd loyal while inviting new life, too--yeah, no benefit here. R.I.P. Southland, thanks for all the fun.
